I experienced what you mentioned earlier about the outpost bitching about being attacked literally 100 yards from it, that was a little ridiculous. The crafting I enjoy more because it seems easier to kill the correct animals to get what you need rather than needing the same skin for different items and having to choose.  The syringe crafting was definitely dumbed down, and I'm not sure I like how the skill trees branch out, some of the progressions don't make sense to me and I feel like I need to spend points on skills I won't use in order to get the one I want.

I don't really experience the graphical stuttering, and run it on High all around except for shadows and some other things i turned to medium that don't affect the overall look of the game. I do overclock my 550ti though, but it runs fine.

Installing the OS was such a quick process I ended up obtaining 8.1 pro and throwing it on there instead as well as Start8. Working great! I set the background to something Merry Christmassy and is now awaiting wrapping/boxing.

Just like 7 was what Vista should have been..why can't they just wait and release the good one without going through all this consumer confusing bullshit?  Seem like this has been the operating environment for their release schedule for the past few versions of Windows..

I actually ordered the stuff 12/8, it ended up getting here 12/9 all together! I love newegg. I didn't make any changes to the original order and got it all installed last night. Installed W7 ultimate on it in just a couple minutes (!!!) and it has a consistent cold boot time to desktop of 6 seconds. I can't even believe that. I've never had the pleasure of an SSD or an Intel cpu on any of my machines so I am slightly jealous but happy for her.

She doesn't do any gaming and the most she would get into is possibly using photoshop or some derivative to design her own pixel-sized (like 10x10, 15x15) patterns for a custom LED hula hoop. That's not even on the radar until some time next year so we'll cross that bridge when we come to it; but i think it will be fine either way.

I am wary of new OSs like 8.1 but maybe I will give it a go. It's still fresh and it takes no time at all to get stuff installed due to the SSD so we'll see!

I was looking to perfectly legitimately install Windows 7 on there......................

Any recommendations on a similarly priced i5? I would just be concerned with the drop of overall processing speed of the individual cores.

I don't have much experience with Intel at all so any insight is appreciated.

Thanks for taking a look spex

She needs a computer, her laptop crapped out and she has no computing devices other than phone and tablet. Since she's not in school anymore I don't see the need for a laptop so I'm going with a desktop.

Budget intel build with room for expansion if need be:

Intel Core i3-4330 Haswell Dual-Core 3.5GHz
Team Elite Plus 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
Antec Three Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
ASRock Z97 Pro3 LGA 1150 Intel Z97
CORSAIR CX series CX430 430W
Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB

Total $441.. Did some shuffling around after the black friday/cyber monday deals dropped off, but this build looks pretty solid for a general browsing/netflix machine and should last her quite a while. No CD drive because she doesn't really need one, and I also have a Wifi card I already have I'll be throwing in there. No video card because no gaming and the integrated intel HD should be fine for Netflix/streaming.

I am slightly jealous because I've never had a custom Intel build, but am still on my AMD from last year. I can run Far Cry on high so not that jealous but I would eventually like an Intel build for myself.

SSD because she won't be downloading a whole bunch of crap and I want it to be fast to load/boot etc. Can stick a storage drive on there later if need be.

Thoughts, comments, concerns?

Happy holidays to all

I am enjoying D3 more recently as well, especially after the 2.1 update and ironing out all the crap. I don't have too high a toon yet, but I play a 70 wizard (something like 16-20 paragon) and have a couple other 60+ barb/monk alts. Just finished the newest act that came with the expansion and am now exploring in adventure mode doing bounties, gaining xp and trying to build out my wizard to get geared for higher difficulties.

I am also enjoying Gauntlet that was released this week. Can't wait to get down on some with my buddies.

I need a new lappy. You remind me of that fact lol. As a DJ in this age of technology, I need to get a mobile PC that is up to par with current standards. My ASUS U80a is 6-7 years old and shows it's age via the fan making noise and thus getting warmer than it should/has in the past - I definitely wouldn't trust to take it out to perform with.  I had considered replacing the fan and putting an SSD in it, but at this point the performance gains wouldn't be enough to make it a viable machine for anything other than Netflix (which it has a hard time with HD). Also the RAM is unable to be upgraded past the factory 4GB.

Mostly I need to run DJ software and maybe some production software, so nothing crazy and definitely no more than 2 cores and 8GB.

Oh man a decade?!? This community was an extremely huge part of my development as a person before and during high school. Crazy it has been that long (not even including the a0.com years).

I had no idea you were that young when you started this site but you did a hell of a job, that is an insane time in anyone's life to manage something so outside themselves; Like you said, college and a bunch of other new responsibilities start taking over your life and before you know it...

happy birthday s-net :)

I have attempted being active in other hobby/passion related forums and it really isn't the same as it was 10 years ago (surprise surprise) as far as internet forum activity goes.  I guess everyone is on facebook or whatever.. the internet forum thing is slowly decaying like the newspaper. No one cares enough to put thought into the shit they put out online, to string together a few coherent sentences seems like an impossible task of this generation.

Lol they have a USB version I'm sure you ran into while shopping, I think they just stuck a letter "U" on the model number and slapped a USB port in there.  I wonder if that would work.... it does require a preamp/phantom power supply though so I am not sure how that would affect it.

Neat! I have the Behringer C1; lovely sound. Haven't recorded a whole lot on it but what I have sounds great. I've also used it for a karaoke house party my roommate had for her birthday, which worked out great.

Just picked this beauty up today for $350 from a good DJ buddy of mine. I feel extremely lucky as these things are at least $1,000 new. The only thing 'wrong' with it is a missing pitch fader slider which is easily replaceable. He happened to upgrade to the DDJ SZ (just spectacular to see in person, definitely on my future future wish list.)

Here she is

Still deciding whether Traktor or Serato is going to be best with my mixing style, that remains to be seen. Not really a big fan of the Serato DJ layout. As a bonus, however, DJs using the DDJ SX do not have to buy/activate Serato DJ. So that's pretty neat and cool of them to do.

From what I have experienced so far, the layout and options in front of me are perfect for my style of mixing, and I absolutely have room to grow with this setup.

Previously, I was limited with Numark NDX400s (which I am selling), or a mouse/keyboard/MIDI Trigger Finger mapped to traktor's basic faders/knobs. Totally not cutting it anymore.
