Title: The Official spectere.net Diablo II Extravaganza Thread
Post by: Spectere on January 12, 2009, 02:00:53 PM
I want to play Diablo II with you guys, but we need a time and date.

How does January 31 at 7:00PM EST work for everyone?

As for the other details, all communication will be done via a Skype conference call (unless someone suggests a better alternative).  /players 8 will most likely be set, so the more people we have the better.  I will host the game on my computer, so if you can't get on b.net for any reason (such as your copy of Diablo II being a PERFECTLY LEGITIMATE one) you'll still be able to play.  As expected, you will be required to roll a new character.  We can discuss who will play what prior to the start of the game.

Torrents are by far the easiest way of doing things. And there are plenty of them out there to obtain your PERFECTLY LEGITIMATE copy from too.

I believe 7PM EST is 5 MTN time.. Depending on if I work, I should be cool. The way hours have been going lately, I doubt I'll work anyway.

I'll have to take a night off of FFXI haha. Just shooting for running through Normal A5? I'll make a bone necro, they're pretty trash later even with good gear but they basically rape normal.

I'm thinking of making a pally of some sort, any ideas on builds?

Smite pallies are the best way to go.
Title: Re: The Official spectere.net Diablo II Extravaganza Thread
Post by: Bobbias on January 13, 2009, 01:47:01 PM
I was thinking more along the lines of some weird build, not something mind numbingly common, lol.
Title: Re: The Official spectere.net Diablo II Extravaganza Thread
Post by: Spectere on January 13, 2009, 02:13:09 PM
I think I might play as a pally, focusing on defensive auras.  Still kind of on the fence between that, a summoning furfag rogue, and some sort of barb.

Just shooting for running through Normal A5?

Yep.

I was going to be a bone Necro...

I really don't know how to play the other classes well, so something that's not that important to team success would be great for me.

Well, it's not hard to be a barb tank... And tanks can be helpful just by existing.

And if you're going defensive spec, maybe I should go offense... And holy freeze can be a decent corpse destruction method, too (which can really come in handy sometimes).

Yeah, I think I'm going to be a defense pally.  It'll be a nice change of pace, if nothing else.

Post by: Bobbias on January 13, 2009, 07:32:16 PM
Alright, I'll take offensive then. Any idea who's taking what for their hirelings? It's nice to have a good collection, instead of everyone having the same.

I suppose I could be a tank, as long as someone gave me pointers for my talent tree.

If it's a preferred alternative, we can use the Ventrilo server I use for FFXI, I don't think it has a limit on how many people can be on, or at least we've never hit it with 25+, but Skype works too. Also, I'm in. I've got a friend of mine who wants to play with us as well, if we're not full.

Nope, we're planning on doing a Normal run form A1 through to the end on brand new chars.

If we'd had something going before and we were all around the same level, we might have started with premade characters, but that not being the case, we're starting fresh.

And to be clear, we're running on 1.12, right (I've got a 1.10 install right now, and Hell unleashed installed to another folder.)

Even so, I think I would have still preferred starting fresh.  If you start a new Normal game with existing characters most of Act 1 winds up being more boring than it normally is.

If we had existing characters and started on Nightmare or Hell, that'd be a different story.  Speaking of which, if this goes well you guys might have to save your characters for another run. *wink wink*

And to be clear, we're running on 1.12, right

Yep.

I've got a friend who is gonna try to join us as well, but he may not be able to run Skype and D2 at the same time (His laptop is a genuine piece of shit).

Oh, and I may be able to use my brother's mic for Skype, but I might not, and I might not be able to use it the whole time if I even get it, so I may be forced to use the onboard mic on my laptop, which apparently generates a considerable amount of background noise.

Well, I have it installed, Spec has it, I dunno about the other guys. I've added a Spectere, but other than the username, no info is shared, so I don't know if that is spec's real Skype account. If you want, add bobbiasv2 (Bobbias was taken) so I'll have you at least (if you have an account yet).

I couldn't connect to boobies no matter what I did. Opened the correct ports, then even opened a damn DMZ to this PC, nothing. Connection still kept getting interrupted, NPCs not responding, maps not loading, etc. It looked like everything was fine running around town, but when spec joined and we went to the Den of Evil, everything started fucking up. Oh well the idea was fun maybe another time.

Works for me.

Weekends are fine for me until I start working at my Co-op, wherever that might be. Then I'll have to figure out my schedule. Maybe I'll get lucky and have standard hours.

I assure you, I'm probably uselesser than you are. :)

I *might* wind up changing my class, though.  Defensive pally isn't really doing it for me.  Shouldn't be a problem as long as I push the new char to lv.18-ish.

Well, a friend of mine's home for reading week from the 13th to the 22nd, so I'll be drinking with him sometime, but that likely won't interfere, then I'm off on reading week from the 20th to the 1st, essentially.

So if all else fails, I'll be available on the weekend of the 27th to the 28th.

I don't think I had to run it in compatibility mode at all over here, but, as always, YMMV.

well i mean it worked for me, but the middle mouse button didn't work, neither did middle click for map (and it still doesn't work after the compatability thing, but the mousewheel works and that's the big thing)

Sometimes stuff like that can be caused by mouse driver itself.  If it has any bizarro functions that take over the middle mouse button or scroll wheel you could wind up losing functionality in some cases.

There haven't been any API changes for mouse click or wheel events for quite some time (since Windows 98, I believe) so I don't think that's a Vista issue, per se.

Hmm, well, I had trouble with it, but I can try it again. I'd have to hunt down .iso's a such though, since all my discs and cd keys are at home..

I had issues with the middle button/scroll wheel as well. Sometimes I could fix it, sometimes it wouldn't work. I really hated the fact that every time I fixed it, I had to manually rebind it though.
