sad i can't "play" until i get out of work, since the servers came up an hour before my shift starts.  and i don't much like my character portrait, but it looks better than the screen i took in the post above.  really you would think i would change the face...but that's the thing, her face looks fine, i guess it just doesn't make a good still image.

well i hit level 10, so yeah, here.  i can wear chain(starting at level 10...so like just now), but im kind of fucking broke right now so my gear is just leather that i got from 1-10.

can't really judge the game thus far, im still bumbling my way through it trying to figure out what's what.

they are damn skimpy with giving you gear from basic questing, see that chest piece. it's a leather chest i got from the 1-10 leveling.  see it's graphic?  it's the EXACT SAME as the starter shirt only with a different pattern on it.  im just dying for something new looking but fuck if im paying the money, money is kind of needed for me with other things at the moment.

You mean in game money or actual real world money?

Also I'm assuming this isn't free to play but I haven't really looked into it, what with me being very neutral on MMOs in general.

i don't see how hard it is to assume it uses the typical "$15.00/month" fee(use dat wikipedia).  but there, i said it.

anywho, level 18, im pretty much in full chain armor right now (though it totally doesn't look like it).  spent a good chunk of time doing professions.  47 alchemy, 100 cooking.  learned that the vendor who sells you random profession stuff needed to craft...also sells recipes...stores have different tabs and well im retarded to not notice that.

that said, i made some 60 mana potions which recover like 900 mana...i have around (estimating, i forgot but its around this number) 2500 mana.  my mp bar does not empty too fast, the cooldown for a potion is 30 seconds, AND the mats for the potions themselves are cheap and easy to get.  all of that means, don't worry about spending mana because the potion will recover a good chunk of that, and i can easily make more if i need more.

that magic carpet is for everybody, and it happens to anybody who does the /sit command.  ill try and remember to post a /sleep tomorrow since something similar happens with that.

i think ill just keep posting progress screenshots, when i hit the level cap ill have a nice documentary of screens to show the character growing from character creation phase, to first 2 minutes on the server to level cap.  think it will be pretty neat when that's done.

this game looks like warhammer 2.0

/pass

Are you enjoying it, though? More than WoW?
Title: Re: Aion
Post by: vladgd on September 24, 2009, 08:00:03 AM
i will say that i am enjoying my time with the game, and if you want to pass on the game because it looks like another good mmo, only that other good mmo isn't wow, that's fine.

keep playing WoW and stay out of my thread if you only mean to troll the game because it isn't WoW.

yes, WoW is a REALLY good game, but it isn't the only game out there, and some people "gasp" have played and enjoyed WoW, but maby WoW has got old since said person has already did the content he wanted to do.  so maby "gasp again" this person wants a different game of the same genre to play, but it has some different content with different things to do, because "tripple gasp" maby it entertains him.  AND MABY said person is sick of all of the WoW chat in game(do not read /1, it's just "hey wow this, wow that"), so MABY that person may get a bit IRRITATED if some WoW elitist on some forum he goes to with people he doesn't like but stupidly posts anyway decides to bring it up in a dick manner.  since obviously WoW is the only game you play.

kthxbai

that was a fun semi tldr to type though, ill admit that.  took about 12 minutes to type and about 5-7 edits (i frankly use the edit button and save more often than i preview, stupid as that is, that's how i roll)

so, sit back and enjoy my images with reletave lack of talk about the actual game, since only one person i know is playing the game, and the guild is playing fallen earth.  and no, i will not talk about fallen earth, i am not playing that game, i don't know anything about it.

also it's ok if you go all eggman on me, i honestly enjoy this e-drama posting stuff, why else do i explode at people who piss me off?  because i enjoy it?  fuck yes i do, it's better than porn.

?

I wasn't trolling or attempting to. That's why I asked "are you enjoying it?" Sorry if you saw sarcasm that wasn't there.

I personally didn't like the Warhammer UI, so I expressed my opinion and said nothing more.

P.S. this is not a troll either, I was seriously just curious

it was like 8am when i posted that, and from my pov, you pretty much came into the thread saying...

"looks like warhammer, shitsux.  you seem like it, is it better than the only mmo worth playing, ye holy world of warcraft?"

but uhh, yeah, if you like the everquest style of mmo (you know, wow, war and the like) and you have the money, it's worth trying.  i obviously can't say anything about "is it better than x" because ive played "x" to max level, and im not even half way through this game.  i can say that the standard mobs can get kind of tough, like for my cleric anyway, these friggin wind spirit people will deplete more than all of my health before i kill them, so i kind of have to hot myself and then cast my 2sec direct heal once or twice durring the fight...of a mob equal or one level less to me.  im just thinking cleric dps sucks at this level, because how the fuck could a dps class survive that?  seriously, templar's are the tank, so they are the most durable class....CLERICS ARE THE SECOND MOST DURABLE CLASS AND THEY ARE THE MAIN HEALER (they wear chain and use a shield), so like, yeah.

but i don't know, im working on a gladiator (melee plate dps class) up and giving him armor/weaponsmith so i can craft the cleric some armor.  seems like crafted armor/weapons is the cheapest rout to go, and the quality is pretty good as well.

level 20-22 kind of FUCKING SUCKED.  so i plugged in some accuracy manastones so i won't get resisted so goddamn much, and level 22 brought, surprisingly, ACTUAL FUCKING DAMAGE.  so yeah, i have about 6 bars exp right now after grinding a little bit.  hopefully ill be posting my "ding 24" screenshot sooner rather than later.  i also leveled a gladiator to 19, and ill post an image of her when she's 20.  leveled her during the 20-22 bullshit of my cleric, ALMOST decided to make it my main, but i basically know for a fact that i will enjoy a healer at max level over the most common class (which is a melee dps plate class) in the game known as the gladiator.

also dig it, my armor "gasp" looks like some fucking chain armor.  i think that's pretty spiffy anyway.

Goddamn that game looks awesome. Having not had a chance to play, I can't comment on the gameplay, but judging by what I've heard from you and such, I think I'd enjoy it.

im just going to state, it's a bit more grindey than say what you may be used to in WoW/WAR.  but i guess it's a bit different.  in WoW, you grind quests, regular mobs don't give too much exp but quest exp is where it's at.  in WAR you can grind mobs for exp ONLY IF YOU AOE GRIND to get decent exp(there is literally ZERO DOWNTIME(unless you die) in this game, so if your group can manage to pull 5,6, 10, 20 mobs at a time and you barely manage to do it...you are going to keep on doing that until you manage to die or something.  two rune priests, a warrior priest, and a bright wizard....literally the bright wizard can aggro the whole goddamn area running around spamming aoe while three healers keep his ass alive...indefinitely), the questing is pretty ok for exp, but typically consistently winning scenarios (battlegrounds) yields the most exp.

aion, mobs give you more exp, and quests really only fork over decent exp if it's the end of a chain (in which you literally get NOTHING for prior quests in said chain), and sometimes the quest exp isn't even worth walking over to complete because kill 5 mobs and BAM you already got more than the quest gives you exp wise.  but mobs in this game are a bit harder, and from what ive played thus far, you really...don't want to fight more than 1 mob at a time, i mean, if you do, just run.

though that is my experience up to level 22 anyway, ill comment if anything changes later down the road when if i make it.

That sounds a lot more like your typical Korean MMO really. I'd expect it to be more mob-based than quest-based.

Well, I've played a number of korean MMOs, so I guess I'd be fine with it, though I really do prefer quests over grinding mobs, just because if you want, you can pay attention to the quests and have some story to go along with your grinding.

they are also doing a poor job at dealing with the gold spam issue

unless i click on my legion or group tab (to only show legion or group chat) it's going to be high speed spam in the dialog window, nonstop.  you could tell me to block them, but their names are generally "bdrghd" or "gdrhfthfth" which takes enough time to type out as is...only to find out "that player doesn't exist", to shortly get a whisper from some guy named "rvrgvdXvdvs", yeah, ncsoft needs to get it's ass in gear with this one.  no, actually, ncsoft just needs to get mythic on the phone, because that's one thing WAR did great is killed the gold spam reletavely short after the game came out.

Yeah, that's a problem on a lot of games. In Atlantica (Free mmo), they added a captcha to the character select scren so if you didn't get it, it'd boot you after 5 minutes. It's definitely slowed the gold spammers down.

http://www.aionsource.com/forum/news-announcements/79648-letter-ncsoft-korea.html

they do most of this stuff as well as add one more thing, i will resub.

also, that one more thing is the following

-when you attack a mob, you tag it, like in most modern mmo's today, when you attack a mob, and some other jerkoff attacks and kills it, they don't get credit or exp for the kill.

as it stands now if somebody does as much as do any damage to a mob i am attacking, he literally steals my exp from the kill.  so instead of "100xp" i get "90xp" or less.  if he does more damage to the mob than i do (say i am a templar, the tank class, attacking a mob, and some random sorceror blows all of his shit and kills the remaining 75% of it's health) they not only get more exp than i did from the mob, they get looting rights to that mob as well.  that encourages griefing, and lower dps classes (HEALERS AND FUCKING TANKS) get screwed over further motivating them to roll dps, and overall less healers and tanks will be available for groups.

im pretty damn sure they will be doing some of those changes, and at that time, i will revive this thread.  until then, my account expires the 29th and will stay expired until some of those problems are addressed.

not that it matters to the actual game, this is probably one of the best looking mmo out on the market today.  i mean, DAMN this game looks nice.  the only thing i can think of to compare would be EVE and that's just a completely different animal (sci fi, space ships, space, not the typical fantasy setting).

ill probably keep posting until the account ends with images of my templar (yeah...the 20+ grind is so bad i roll alts instead) if i decide to work on her.

My question: Why the fuck didn't they have tagging from the beginning? Is it that fucking hard to remember that tagging actually works?
