I forget if I had a topic for this already, so here is a topic for it. The War of the Bits is my irregularly updated webcomic that I have recently started making comics for again. The backstory is a bit cheesy, but the comic will get better, I promise!
The War of the Bits (link to first comic) (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=1)
The War of the Bits (general link) (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/)
I just updated with three new comics (#12, 13, 14). I'm going to try and make it a habit to update regularly. :)
-
That last one was so BAD....
-
That last one was so BAD....
That WAS the aim :)
I guess I've been reading too much Irregular Webcomic.
-
That WAS the aim :)
Still.. Jesus. I think that's worse than my puns, and those are pretty terrible.
-
I actually laughed at that last comic a lot. There must be something wrong with me...
-
I laughed, but still.
-
I don't get the pun :'(.
-
Did you click the link below the comic? :3

You have mastered the art of bad puns. Congratulations.
-
Niggers sword be massive, also puns indeed.
-
Dermatologist appointment, comic will be late. Expect comic at 6 to 8 MST (8 to 10 EST). :)
-
As promised, since I didn't get the comic done (or started! lolz) on Monday, I finished it today, on Tuesday... although, it's like, Wednesday already, for half of you.
A Toll Lot of Trouble Resolved (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=16)

Yes, I Totally Just Did That (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=17)
I suck at getting things done on time ^o^;;
-
I APPROVE.
-
For some reason, I still hate him though.
-
HE OBVIOUSLY KNEW THEY COULD GET VITAL INFORMATION FROM HIM, YET C. FALCON HAD SUCH A STRONG VISION OF JUSTICE HE EXECUTED HIM.
-
Moblin Cuisine (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=18)
I felt like this one had to be done :)
edit: I just realized that CF's boots are inconsistant. That will change next strip; I'm actually revising the entire CF sheet to make him look less like Samus.
EDIT: MOAR COMMENTS D:<
-
It was good. how about this: moar comics!

Guard captain forgot about Captain Falcon :<
don't worry though, he does some lolz and then things start happening

A Suspicious Person (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=25)
Extra comic, to try and move things along faster. There will be a new one tomorrow/Sunday too.

None of these are last minute filler, they are what I planned.

-
Of Unlikely Odds (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=28)
I realize that I am moving at a slug's pace, but if I force myself to go too much faster I'll ruin the comic like I did LRA. I don't want to end up like Andy Weir before my comic is even starts to be recognized ;D
-
I loled.
-
Same.

haha shit i need to fix that last line i was the tired :<

Moblin's Plot I (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=29)
I can hear calliope music in my head now
-
Moblin's Plot II (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=30)
Preparation for a battle! The Moblins think their plan is infallable, but they'll have to first get past Samus's brains, Captain Falcon's brawn, and Link's... no D:
-
Confronting the Red Moblin (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=31)
Added a notice at the top of the page. I might make an SQL field for text that goes under the title, but since I'm 93.8% sure that nobody else is really using this engine in the state that I possess it in, that it's no major deal doing it the way I am for the time being. Oh yeah, eventually I'll make a decent banner to display underneath the title, as well as in my signature. :>
Oh yeah, as today's strip made me realize, there may be need for decreasing the text size. Should I decrease the size or leave it as it is (this will take effect the next time I make a comic)?
-
I don't mind the comic the way it is...
-
No new comic today, and probably no comic tomorrow (my backlog is one comic at the moment). The computer that has all of my WotB stuff on it (as well as my good pron!!! D:<) decided to have a power supply failure. Funny enough, the power supply didn't fuck up until AFTER I turned it off, and then turned it back on.
-
Sup doods. I put my secondary drive in this computer (4 tempz) so now I have access to all the comic and pron materials I need. Sooo...
MOBLIN SUPER WARRIOR IMBECILE (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=32)
...and I'm still one comic behind! x_x
-
Oh well, I like this boss format thing.
-
Well, news is, my Dell is fuxxed to the max. If you don't like that KolourPaint comic, sorry, but you're going to be getting them for a while. A long, long, while. No new comic today because I'm lazy and sad my computer iz be ded. :(
-
The Power of the Sceptre (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=33)
next comic includes guest appearances by arthur c clarke and ozzy osbourne
also, i'm still trying to find a font that i think looks good for the text >:|

eh... i decided to stop making these. it's just not fun anymoar :'(

-
I see how it is.

The King Returns (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=35)
If you couldn't figure out who the missing fourth character is (he'll never physically appear in the story), think of all of the heroes in all of Nintendo's first party video games, and pick the single most well known of them all, who's appeared in so many games as a main character or cameo that it's ridiculous, and is pretty much considered Nintendo's mascot. Yeah. He'll appear later, but only as a flashback.
-
Lawl, yous bitches.
-
and one moar kthx :)
The Hero's Test Part I (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=36)
-
Haha, I liked the electrician one.
-
Yeah, the electrician one was my personal favorite (and, the only one I really even made up). I may have Samus try to explain the joke if they have to retake the test later.
The Hero's Test Part II (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=37)
oops i broke a text box. :(
-
Nicely done. This comic is more consistently funny than your old one. I like this.
-
FALCON COOOOOOOOOOK.
-
The Hero's Test Part III (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=38)
IZ NOT DED YET AAARRRRRGHJAIFJFJ
I was having major computer issues, I think I detailed them somewhere or the other but I ended up losing two computers (Dells! D:) and gaining a somewhat better computer (locally made, uses lolparts that you can find with a quick newegg search and fucking Rambus which practically cripples it! Oh yeah, Spectere, did your friend ever get a new computer to replace the one stuck with 128MB rambus? Do they still have the rambus stick, and are they willing to donate? :(). Moar comix as it goez k?
-
Oh yeah, Spectere, did your friend ever get a new computer to replace the one stuck with 128MB rambus? Do they still have the rambus stick, and are they willing to donate? :().
That system's been gone for a long time now. It was impossible to upgrade, what with it being a socket 423 with Rambus.
Even if it wasn't, it was at my parents' house. I don't have room here for anymore computer stuff (believe me, five desktop/tower systems and two laptops is more than enough for one room...uh...for now) so I definitely don't have a stockpile.
-
My friends have a small room with 2 laptops, 4 desktops, and a server, IIRC... And they used to have a rack full of oldschool computers.
-
Uh, yeah, but is that room also their bedroom and their office? I have to store a lot of company equipment in here as well because I work out of this room. Not to mention that almost everything I own is in it, on top of all that.
-
That room is too small for a bed to even fit there. And it is their office. The laptops are work computers.
-
Yeaaaaah, I don't think any more needs to be said about why they don't have much of a problem fitting a bunch of computers in a small area.
Oh, I guess I should make a shout out to the computer that I'm keeping in the trunk of my car. I should really bring that thing inside one day. :x
-
Must obtain Hannah Montana acid.
-
Hey yous bitches lets follow MortifiedocAlot's example and actually be on topic
Getting to the Point (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=39)
Believe it or not, yeah, they've actually managed to get to the point... in the next comic <;-P
-
Green Eggs and Ham was written on a dare from Dr. Seuss's Editor. The dare was that Dr. Seuss couldn't write a book using less than 50 individual words. Thus, Green Eggs and Ham was born.
-
hay that's carazy :o
-
Haha, yeah. Learned that on Snopes.com
-
lol repetition on Dr. Susses part.
-
Getting to the Point...? (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=40)
hawut
you know your king is badass when he knows the opening crawls of the original trilogy by heart
collecting dr suess books was also an indicator of badassness, but to a lesser degree
-
That was awesome.
-
oh yeah, this
i got stuck on comic 41 and then school went AARGJFRDRGSDJGKDSBLAH

Link the Navigator II - changed the dialogue to make more sense (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=12)
Yes, I Just Totally Did That - tried to make less racist (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=17)
The Hero's Test Part I - I remembered what the actual punchline to Link's joke was supposed to be, and so I changed it (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=36)
courtesy of your local Quality Assurance Agent :)
-
I liked the old punch line....
-
Oh, don't worry, I'll make sure I change all of the swords into walking sticks and radios next time I do some edits <3
-
okay i got done editing all of the weapons into walkie talkies oh wait no i mean
Finally, to the Point! (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=41)
Sorry that the text in panel 6 is hard to read, but I was rushing by that point and couldn't be bothered to do anything other than darken the text color. It's incredibly late over here, and I'm tired.
-
A bit B^U, but it did explain everything, also yes, fanfics are scary.
-
lol not exactly sure what "B^U" is but yeah
comic will be later today, because i had to do crap yesterday and i still have some more crap to go do today
-
B^U, as in Buckly, as in CAD, as in a ton of words.
-
oh so like tl;dr lol
I can get pretty wordy sometimes, but I try not to do it too much...
Workin' on comix nau :d
-
I like wordy comics sometimes.
-
BIOMECHANICAL SCOUT MOUSER ASSAULT MECH (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=42)
gotta go
-
So yeah. I had absolutely zero time to comment on this comic or write an annotation. Writing the annotation now.
First, you may notice that the comic is 2x3 panels. From now on, this is normal. There will be 2x2 and 2x3 comics, depending on which one the situation calls for, or maybe even 2x1 or 2x4 comics. 2x4 and 2x5 probably won't happen very often except at the beginings of chapters/phases. Ends of those will have special 2x3 comics.
Second, you may notice a lack of sound effects. I had no time to do those either. Sound effects are a part of the comic experience, and I am going to start putting in the sound effects full-time with comic 43.
Also, the seemingly random line that the Mouser Mech says after initializing is an obscure reference. Disregard it if it confuses you.
I've begun editing comics 1-15. My goal is to make the dialogue less cheesy, more explanitory, and FUNNY...a little. I won't stop after the second or third comic because of laziness like I did with LRA, because I'm not completely reconstructing the comic; I'm just changing the dialogue and maybe modifying very small details. It'll be good. Also, walkie talkies instead of guns and swords and spears.
edit: First (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=1) three (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=2) done. (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=3)
-
So, yeah, yesterday was pretty busy for me. So you get a comic today.
Mouser's Proposal (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=43)
lol, big panels. I should probably fill the black 1x240 pixel bars on the sides with transparent.
-
First Punch Against Mouser (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=44)
It's Tuesday... in EDT and eastern hemisphere! So comic.
I may be getting rid of the titles because they don't really enhance the comic at all. They're even pretty lame, sometimes. If they detract too much from the comic, should I replace it with a thing saying "wotb no. X"? In fact, I may add that anyway, so it would read, "WotB No. X: name". But that may make lengthy names wrap, so I'd have to increase the div width. Notice I said div and not table. Spectere, shame on you for originally using tables ;-D
Also, I may add a vision impared thing like David Morgan-Mar does. It would float to the right of the comic, and if I could work the CSS around, make the comic display hard to the left instead of in the middle when activated. I doubt I have the fan base to make this a necessity, though. I'd have to make a field and write out each comic's script for the SQL table, likely. Which would be lame if I decided to do this any time except before I've got like five hundred comics sitting around with no script field set up, with scripts.
Third, I may add a thing to the left or right of the comic that lets you easily select a Phase, Chapter, or even bossfight. Kind of like a QUICK Quick Nav. I may just stick it right under the normal nav, though (which you may or may not have noticed takes up less vertical room now). Not useful now, but maybe useful when I've got a fuckload of comics.
I could make these latter two a $_GET or $_POST option (sidebar?=off, sidebar?=qn, or sidebar?=vi, that kind of thing. $_POST or a cookie is more likely, though since I've been having trouble getting multiple $_GET things to work with the drop down select menu. Spectere help plox maybe? I don't really want to use $_POST or a cookie :-().
Any of these may require that I increase the div width to probably 960, which unfortunately makes 800x600 users have to scroll horizontally (and yes, 800x600 users still do exist. Usually, ha, vision impared or old people). However, I probably don't have any actual readers that use that resolution. Does anybody use that, here?
Opinions on any of these modifications? I'd really like some input.
edit: o btw 4 through 6 remakes were uploaded and done yesterday. Comic 42 is now MOUSER ASSAULT MECH REMIX ONE because name collision may lead to reader confusion amirite
-
I like the titles. I honestly don't think it's necessary to do the whole vision impaired thing, and I HIGHLY doubt you have any 800x600 users. The only people I've ever seen use that are my grandparents, who are absolutely fucking blind (not literally, but honestly, when you require 800x600 to see anything, your eyes are REALLY FUCKING BAD) :/
-
but honestly, when you require 800x600 to see anything, your eyes are REALLY FUCKING BAD
...or you have a 2" monitor. Think of the people with subminiature displays, you hag!
-
Oh, bend over. >:-P
edit: now for serious. I haven't completely gotten rid of the thought of having something float to the side of the comic (kind of like Spectere's original news design, perhaps (that made the page screw up sometimes because the comic was supposed to be 80% of the table width but he was trying to make it fill 100% because news was disabled!!!!!!! (and he's fat and uses tables!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!))).
I increased the div width to 960, and added Wotb No. X to the side of the title. I'll probably format it a little differently, though, and go back to 768, because there's no reason to have that much unused space to the sides of the comics.
I will make a banner for the top of the page probably soon, and later try to expand that php code in my signature to display all four images of the signature instead of just the top-right one, so that way, it's under 300 characters rite.
-
...or you have a 2" monitor. Think of the people with subminiature displays, you hag!
If you have a 2" monitor, you shouldn't be browsing pages with it :/
-
If you have a 2" monitor, you shouldn't be browsing pages with it :/
Hey, my cell phone's display is only 2.1" diagonal (240x320) and I've browsed the web with it... :P
(kind of like Spectere's original news design, perhaps (that made the page screw up sometimes because the comic was supposed to be 80% of the table width but he was trying to make it fill 100% because news was disabled!!!!!!! (and he's fat and uses tables!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!))).
Oh you're just mad that I wouldn't drag my sack across your face yesterday. >:(
-
Mouser's Catch (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=45)
I also shat an anchor onto the comic DIV, so that the distracting top bar is out of the way. So I'm going to make that hueger with a decent looking banner, one of these days.
Oh you're just mad that I wouldn't drag my sack across your face yesterday. >:(
wel may b <:-)

It's Saturday in Japan so comic!!!!!!1

Plan Mote Be Effective (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=47#comic)
lol
-
Wow, that truly is a bad pun. Good work. I haven't even been that pedantic about my language, that I would use middle age words, lol.
-
Actually I just googled "Mote" and looked at the answers.com page ^_^;;;
-
I should point out that Moat is the proper spelling of that body of water, so I don't get why you would google that corrupted spelling in the first place.
-
:/
-
It's surely got to be Thursday somewhere, and I'm not inclined to give a fuck where, so here's a comic.

I-I-I-Insult? (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=56#comic)
How to be like Lucas #53: Call somebody a poster child as an insult.
EDIT: Falcon has been slowly changing, as you may have noticed, to make him look less like Samus. So far the changes include bigger feet, less hunching, and a more upright, slightly smaller head. In other news, I'm drawing completely new sprites for Spectere and the gray/green voice, and slightly reworking REYS's sprite to look less... akward, I guess. More SNESish and less NESish. Not that you'll see much of them until later. Spectere will be like a muscular version of himself but with a cannon where his right arm is, and green voice will have a katana/wakizashi combo. That's all I'll say until I draw the ($(@#34 sprites.
-
The House of Oddities (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=58#comic)
lol wut
-
Haha, awesome.
-
Tuesday's, Thursday's, and today's comics will all be created in my spare time in the next weeks. Sorry, I was preparing for a competition that also happens to be TODAY and TOMORROW
-
Wasn't really feeling up to making a comic until today. The DsDoZ kind of drained my funny.
Morty the Wise Man (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=59#comic)
I'll try to do one every day until I'm caught up. I've got the next few comics just about planned frame per frame.
Anybody got a sprite of an 8-bit nuclear explosion, btw? I don't mean the ones used in 8-Bit Theater, I mean one that's actually drawn in 8-bit graphics. I'd also like to know what game it's from, if you have one. I figured, since this comic's going to have some war eventually, I might as well get some nuke sprites.
-
Innate Magic (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=60#comic)
-
necktie...
-
Simon Belmont FUCK YEAH.
-
Later, That Night (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=61#comic)
Time jump ahead, because another wise man comic would have been FUCKBORING to make. Pretend there was a comic 60.5 where the wise man teaches Link hand movements for the magic, and Falcon makes some wise remark involving a whole different type of hand moving.
-
Heh, nice irony. Did I mention that Irony is my favorite type of comedy?
-
U just did sir :o
Zombie Attack! (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=62#comic)
So Falcon's a paladin i guess
I imagine Samus with an English accent, Falcon's voice similar to Jayne's in Firefly but a little more like the PAUNCH voice in SSB games, and Link... I dunno.
Note to self: two comics behind :x
EDIT: Whoops, forgot SFX and go-fast line.
-
have some random references to undead-related material with a twist ending
Why Does Falcon Know These References Anyway (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=63#comic)
It appears Falcon is not smart but is very good at fighting zombies!
Dudes are almost out of Rauru. Like, one more strip there.
-
If An Average Bandit Party is Five Men... (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=65#comic)
More math
If they've encountered one bandit pack every ten minutes since they entered the forest, they've been walking in the forest for a little over six hours.
They're probably really tired.
-
hahaha, probably. xD
wonder whats next

READ ANNOTATION, PLOX (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=66#comic)
-
Well, if someone can get me a Japanese text dump and show me where the names are, I should be able to translate them.
-
Thing is, I don't think there is a text dump. :-(
I can probably take a screenshot of every message and link you to the images, though, if that would work?
-
Out for a Morning Pun (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=67#comic)
Badum-tsh
-
Yeah, if the kanji are readable :/ the most difficult part for me translating/transliterating something is usually identifying the kanji, and if they are so pixelated that I can't read them, then there's nothing I can do, but You can try anyway.
-
Ok. Most NES games used kana, actually. I'll get around to taking some screenshots later. Thanks!
edit
(http://kuroneko.spectere.net/images/bbavatars/reys_run.gif)
-
Which makes things that much easier. Kana are damned easy to transliterate/translate.
-
Wow that is an amusing and very witty web comic Rowan.
-
Ambush in Parapa (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=68#comic)
This won't end well
-
Haha, nice.
-
Dramatic Papercut (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=69#comic)
SORRY, NO SEX REFERENCES THIS TIME AROUND
-
so it was like... first week of school, wierd sleep schedule, no comics
but here's one
Like a Nightmare (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=70#comic)
man, I'm getting close to the amount of comics where the last one died, but that was dragged out over like two years, and this hasn't been around for even one year
-
It's a Story of Deceit and Revenge and Camels (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=72)
Well, minus the revenge.
edit: page 10 :o

Lol, I was pretty confused at first.

Fixed also WTF COSMIX SKIPPED 71 I think I accidentally uploaded one twice but forgot to set the autoincrement back after deleting it. So yeah, the link in the other post doesn't work now.
Now with a fixed typo and comic ID:
It's a Story of Deceit and Revenge and Camels (http://kuroneko.spectere.net/comic/index.php?id=71#comic)
Thanks Bobbias. Keep up those keen eyes, son :)

Fuck. Shit. God damn. Stress from school really slaughtered this comic's already-unstable run. Just when shit started happening in it, too. Next semester will likely be even more stressful. So
- Expect some updates over Thanksgiving Break maybe... but, we're going to be playing the fuck out of games probably, and I have take home tests, and also have to deal with relatives, and also the fucking Thanksgiving Meal that makes me feel sick for the couple of days afterwards.
- Christmas Break? Possible, but more take home tests, my sister's coming back home from Japan for a couple of weeks, and I'll be occupied with my new shit.
- Spring Break? Possibly. At least there's no damn relatives and shit visiting.
- Summer? Depends. If I haven't officially beheaded the comic by then, absolutely.
So I've been thinking about where this comic is going to go, and realised one very fundamental issue: I'm using other people's characters, and I feel limited in how I can portray or develop these people. Should I start a new thing (either hand drawn or Photoshop'd, original sprites take too long) with more original people or see how far I can manage to drag WotB along?
Me == leaning towards new thing, but not against keeping WotB going when I get the chance. Maybe do both? :)
