halp

ok now i get
Ridge@DreamLinux:~$ vlc
VLC media player 0.8.6h Janus
X Error of failed request: BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 140 (XVideo)
Minor opcode of failed request: 19 ()

Try removing the libavutilcvs49, libavcodeccvs51, libavformatcvs52, and libpostproccvs51 packages, then reinstall vlc again. There's some sort of conflict between the versions that you have installed and the versions that it wants to install (and the ones that the VLC package thinks that it needs).

i already did yet it still gives me

'Tis odd...
From the looks of things, it's a bug in Xorg. Do you know what version of it you're running?
-
well i just turned off compiz fuzion and it worked
i guess you can lock this thread now

Bugger, didn't even think to ask about that. I keep forgetting that distro creators are stupid enough to leave unstable features like that enabled or easily installable on production operating systems (I'm look straight at you, Ubuntu).
OKAY, lox request granted. Glad you got it working.
