Having a dock would be pretty damn convenient, but for what I do, this machine is more than enough. Half the pc games I play are 10+ years old anyway.

Not exactly "cyberpunk 2077" graphical fidelity here, but the only game I've sunk meaningful time into recently is Guilty Gear Strive, and this machine runs it like a champ. Having a now "portable" machine that can run modern fighting games...and I have two sticks and a usb hub...just need a player 2, lol. Girlfriend is semi interested in this guilty gear release, but when it comes to play a match...You got a guy with thousands of hours fighting games played vs...someone who just picked up a stick, not a great matchup. Even an easy to pick up and play fighting game such as this one (easier to get into than street fighter 5) still has a learning curve higher than most other genres.

Got a decent variety of stuff installed on this machine so far, so when I can peel myself off Guilty Gear I aughta give some of these a spin.

Honestly not too educated on laptops, but doing my research, Lenovo Legion checked a lot of boxes that I wanted.

I pretty much wanted a casual fuck around machine that had some "umph" to play a few games, then spend $600 more than what I actually needed and I ended up with this specific Legion 5 machine.

Can't really say whether it's good or not compared to other laptops since...this is probably the only laptop I've used for any extended period of time, and I have spent probably under 10 hours total on this thing to this point.  It's really odd being totally fine with a videogame console for youtube and my phone for internet browsing kind of removes the "need" to be on a computer most of the time, but it does. Still doe, I got a backlog of games(mostly on consoles, shhhh), and I wanna play some pc stuff, and I don't wanna drag my desktop to the gf's place...and I am in a small bubble with some temporary expendable income...

An expensive amusement? Probably mostly what it is to me right now.

As for brand and whatnot I did look at a few, namly the asus helios, but heard you could fry eggs on that thing and NOPED even though the specs/price was good. I don't tend to follow brand loyalty, mostly look at what fits my budget for what specs I want..unless it's mice, then it's logitech...

Really can't justify getting a laptop over a desktop unless you travel a lot or (like me) just wanted one since childhood and only now has the A money, and B a (albeit not strong) reason to justify getting one.

Plus trying to get into coding...one of those things I want to learn like the other 50 things I want to learn that I'll get to when I...uhh....some...time....eventually...maybe?

So...I got it back yesterday.

Screen looks fine, still going at the 144hz as advertised. No real complaints...save for them essentially deleting all my shit. They did warn about it, but still, annoying. Almost wonder if they just gave me a new unit? Because I swear the keyboard feels...less good than what I remember. I could be buggin though.

But Iunno it works so...cool? I guess. Now I have a computer I can use while I spend most of my time at the lady friends place, and It can run pretty much anything I want it to, including "cough" guilty gear strive that I totally double dipped on "cough" pretty much perfectly. Played a few hours yesterday and was warm, but far from hot, so I am pleased with it.

Fairly quick turnover from Lenovo, so while the phone stuff wasn't fun, they got the job done in a reasonable amount of time.

I considered amazon, but after getting my stuff setup I'd rather just fix what I got. They directed me towards the manufacturer anyway. Plus this thing apparently has a warranty so why not.

Took a little over an hour...

-Open chat to customer support to ultimately have them direct me to the lenovo page where I entered that chat...not so helpful.

-Actually call them and explain my problem, since it's not dead pixels, it's a little more nuanced to explain which ends up taking more time. Give them serial number blablabla, they direct me to the "premium you got warranty help" people.

-Get to my third person, explained the issue again, they want to remote control the machine to see the issue...which I explained made no sense because it's the monitor and the issue does not show up on external displays. They do it anyway, don't see anything as I know, want me to snap a picture of my issue..which I do and they see "well I can't see the line". Go through some display troubleshooter test thing, which I fail, which is good so they got proof it's messed up. This leads to them trying to send a lenovo repair person to my residence...for whatever reason, for whatever reason that can't go through so FUCKING FINALLY THEY EMAIL ME A SHIPPING TAG TO SEND IT OVER TO GET REPAIRED WHICH IS WHAT I WAS TRYING TO DO THE WHOLE TIME.

So basically I just wanted to know how to ship this thing over there to get it fixed, but just asking for that would be too easy, so that's what I had to do to get this far. I kept my boxes, but was out doing normie fun stuff all day, so I'll box er up and send it off tomorrow. 10-15 days estimated repair time, but whatever.

SHOULDA just sent it back the day I got it via amazon, but im dumb, so that's what you should expect if you go through a company direct to get a fairly trivial repair started.

Now to see if getting it sent off has any unforeseen challenges. I've done it multiple times from amazon without a hitch, but this isn't amazon I'm dealing with so we'll see. Wanted to play tbc classic, but I might just reup my ps+ on the ps4 and play more gg strive till this thing comes back.

Windows has had me wanting a replacement OS for a few years now, but I do not understand software enough to understand why there isn't a replacement for windows for gaming or something. The way I use a computer is more or less, I don't need a computer unless I want to type something, and also gaming. If I don't need to type something, or if I don't need to play something on PC, I kinda don't need a computer/windows. If I could run ALL my games on...not windows, I would do so.

Like the crack/tear/whatever it is IS very minor, can BARELY see it in games, but I want it gone.

Lenovo did contact me on Friday...not via email, but phone call...while I was at work. I asked them to email/text me or whatever, they said they'd email me immediately after the call...I have not received ANY emails thus far.

So tomorrow morning I will contact them and try and get this thing sent out to replace this screen. It's a nice machine but yknow, very annoyed that it came to me with this blemish. I haven't really been on it that much because if I'm sending it out within the week I don't want to be in the middle of anything...

This is more of a "to be continued" and a way to play around with the laptops keyboard, which for a laptop keyboard, is very acceptable. So yeah, tomorrow customer support and hopefully I can send this sucker out, but given my current experience with them, it'll probably be more complicated than what I expect it'll be. PLEASE CONTACT ME WHEN I AM AT HOME WITH THE MACHINE, AT WORK WHEN IT'S BUSY IS A BAD TIME!

Kinda wanted to post this in the happy thread, but also in the rage thread...so I'll make a topic because I'm kinda new to laptops and whatnot.

I purchased one of these.

For the most part from what I've used setting it up and getting things on it, it's perfectly functional...but out of the box it looks like a hairline fracture horizontally across the center of the monitor. Not an issue using the hdmi and a second display, however, I got a laptop to be mobile, a 50 inch 4k display is NOT mobile, and spending over $1500usd on a new product for it to have it be defect...not pleased. I have god awful luck with displays I swear. My last tv I bought back in november had 25% of the screen as dead pixels, and that isn't the only new monitor I have purchased with that problem.

Apparently it's still under warranty with Lenovo...I mean I JUST got it new...so I registered the product through their thing and sent in a ticket, 1-3 business days and I'll have an email...hopefully. I mean it works, the 144hz display really shows in comparison to the big tv I am currently running it on, so it does look good, and the fracture is so small you can hardly notice it...but it's still defect, and I want it fixed.

Not opening a thread only to complain, when I get it out of my house to my gf's place, I may need some gear to get setup comfortable over there. Laptop stand, new keyboard/mouse whatever laptop stuff. Not impulse buying anything till I know what I'll need over there. I had just payed for a month of WoW to dick around with TBC Classic, but whenever this customer service email shows up I'll probably end up not seeing this machine till that month is expired...great.

Yeah it's a tough call. I need to leave, and I need at least a month or so to enjoy not working. Maybe figure out a daily fitness routine that I'll stick to while trying to incorporate small periods of time to learn stuff I want to learn, like programming, new language, building stuff, whatever. The idea is to not just sit on my ass watching youtube for 2 months, then look for a job I hate more than the current one. Month or two of RnR while being productive mentally/physically, then a less stressful job to pay some bills if I can find it...to hopefully something a bit more permanent.

It's a big leap, but not quite ready to put in the ~4 weeks I think I should to put in since I've been there so long. If I want out by October...I should try and figure everything out by September, and if I want out earlier, I need to get off my ass and start planning.

On the microchips. I think my state is in a similar state to yours. It "almost" looks pre pandemic in public right now. The local grocery employees are mostly WITHOUT masks, I think the few that do are just electing to. Though deli is still with masks when I was there earlier today. I went to an IHOP yesterday...without a mask...seemed 50/50 there, but "more or less" normal. As of today I was told my work will have masks as OPTIONAL, so that's a thing im not going to complain about. I think I got my vaccine just in time because everything looks to be coming down whether you got it or not. Most of the people I work with, friends, gf, family all have it, so I think I'm more or less fine to do normal stuff IE, eat at a restaurant once a week....SO RECKLESS, MUCH REBELLION.

Last thing I don't wanna put into the game thread because I keep buying/playing shit I can't beat/already beat before, not worth adding to that thread. I got Guilty Gear Strive on ps4, impulse bought it...historically not a fan of anime fighters...no idea why I bought it, but uhh...this is the single best "anime fightan" I have ever played.  I actually haven't had this much fun playing a fighting game since ultra street fighter 4, like I am actually playing people online and enjoying the experience. Playing this kenyan vampire cyber samurai? He lacks mobility like Potemkin, no front/air dash, no run. He can't spam special moves because they QUICKLY fill a blood gauge that when full...you lose half of your health...but his special moves are god tier stupid, his range is amazing, he excretes damage, and it's a slower playstyle I can get around. This game feels more street fighter than street fighter 5....and I mean that in a good way towards strive and as a shot at 5. Great game for new players, very easy to get into and hop online. Ive probably played more matches with real people in this game than every other fighting game I have played since after street fighter 5 came out, combined.

Well uhh, been away mostly not at my home. Thinking about quitting ye ole job, taking a month off work, and yoloing another job maybe even part time temporarily. "If you don't take a leap, you'll be stuck doing the same thing forever" not sure if that's the right quote from wherever I seen it from, but, yknow, accurate. In a position where MOMENTARY unemployment won't kill me, not looking to bank off government money either, just need to force myself out of this dead end job of "cough" 13 years "cough". Hardest part is taking the plunge. Not sure "when" maybe august, maybe September, but I want to do it before October (because October at my job tends to suck).

So that's been on my mind, kinda don't wanna do anything stupid, but at the same time, maybe it's staying that is the stupid thing to do.

That aside, I got the second dose of government microchips this past monday at around 11:30am. Around 11pm that day started feeling off, tried sleeping, headaches woke me up 3-4 times till around 9am, then at around 10-11, passed out till 2pm tuesday. Pretty much minor nausea, no appetite, no energy, and nonstop headaches till Wednesday at 5pm. That and half of my arm is inflamed from the shot, it currently stretches from my shoulder to half way down my bicep.

Besides that, this is Thursday as of this post, I am more or less fine. Government chips seem to have completed their installation and my body just needs to defrag away the swelling. State is opening up EVERYTHING? July first, so the two week's after second dose thing should line up perfect.

Curious to see how this whole "vaccinated vs un vaccinated citizens" thing goes. Besides a card thing that is filled out, is there a database of people who have it incase said card is lost and one requires proof?

To iterate, it's not a bad "remaster" but the whole "nerfing skills in an OLD single player game" is kind of...anti fun? No idea what they did to 2, and 3, so I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. To play devils advocate, when the enemies use the "immunity" skill, it's nerfed for them too. In vanilla ME1, when they pop that thing and their health bar goes white, they are basically unkillable till it goes away...but it's really only an issue on the "insanity" difficulty, in which, it should be hard since it's the hardest difficulty.

Either way I ditched the soldier for infiltrator, playing insanity, so far it's been smooth. Kinda paranoid now though, I played sentinel for my insanity run in mass effect 2, curious if that class got nerfed because I happen to have found success with it on the hardest difficulty in that game.

I need to run over a list of balance changes, which should be in game somewhere(but isn't), because having a character build around one skill working a certain way, for it not to work that way anymore kinda sucks.

I got mass effect legendary edition, because as a raging mass effect fan and the only person who didn't hate andromeda, I had to buy it.

Looks great, runs great it's good ole vanilla mass effect 1 in a better engine!...cept it's...not...

Websites list changes, and the important ones are under one little bullshit sized bullet point

-Some abilities have been rebalances

WOULD BE NICE TO KNOW WHAT THEY ARE SO PEOPLE CAN MAYBE...PICK A DIFFERENT CLASS INSTEAD OF WASTING A BUNCH OF TIME

I play soldier in ME1, shotguns with mods to weapon force to ragdoll everything I see, while using the immunity skill and health regen to tank my way on even the highest difficulty. Built correctly, and going with the commando subclass later in the game, you can have a 95% immunity uptime, and it's super fun.

Now it's duration went from like 10 up to 20+ seconds, to a static 6...6 seconds for all ranks.

I could play the original on pc which I own, but uhh, I originally played on the xbox 360, and I vastly prefer gamepad which is unsupported on the original, and IS on the legendary edition.

Basically this sucks, mass effect 1 is one of those games that I could call my favorite all time game ever, and being forced to play differently is just kinda bullshit. Reminds me of blizzard, or george lucas...

Yo I get changing the game balance, original game was pretty jank, but at least have a classic balance option available. Don't nerf shit in a SINGLE PLAYER RPG, guys, jeez.

*edit*

I am actually upset to the point where I requested a refund, HOPEFULLY it goes through. I own mass effect 1 2 and 3, already on xbox 360 AND pc, I do not need an inferior version of a trilogy I would rather play on older hardware.

*edit*

no refund, played 4 hours which is too much. I remain angry.

Too busy working to fuck with mine still...also bought...6-7 more knives since that post...stfu...

Did however just schedule vaccination, get this bitch over with this coming monday and june 14 for the second one.

Also heard something about masks going away in my state July first for people who are AND aren't vaccinated? I'd like to be excited, but I kinda see it as a thing they do, shit gets bad, and they bring em back for 6 more months. Not to mention my job will most likely keep mandating it for a while. It's something to look forward to but I don't want to get my hopes up.

*edit*

First one done, had a co worker say he couldn't lift his arm after...but it was almost painless. Easier than getting blood drawn. Now to wait a month.

Sounds kind of normal to me, companies around here give fuckall for upload as far as I remember. Still, even kinda bad internet now a days is MORE than good enough for watching videos/gaming/general browsing. The kids these days don't know how good they got it.

There was a time...probably 10 years ago, where I said I wouldn't see 1 megabyte per second download speed in my LIFETIME. The internet here is probably slower than average, and it's uhh, a lot faster than what I thought to be so fast I'd be dead before I'd see it.

I think I need more self control.

I like knives...its part of my daily attire when I leave the house. Wallet, phone, keys, mask, knife.

Then I got this knife with an elevated second hand price due to being discontinued. Birthday gift, don't tell her, shh.

Now to learn the fine art of telling myself "no, I don't need that".

*edit*

Just received the Kershaw from ebay, being used...it has a rattle when deployed, requires disassembly. Blade has light wear, but looks well used, might take it to get professionally sharpened. Can't give this baby away without a little TLC. Considering this a project, shouldn't be too hard.

*edit*

Alright this was a huge pain in the ass. Screws for the clip and body were t6, came off fine...pivot felt like t8, but coulda been t9? Took like 45 minutes to get the sucker off, and may have ruined a small flat head screwdriver in the process. When I got it "loose" the back part was free spinning, so somehow my frustration going back and forth on the thing got it to come loose. KPL on the washer for improved action, light cleaning inside, whole lotta lithium grease on the spring to alleviate the rattling problem, re assemble, tighten pivot screw the correct amount, works flawless. Even fixed the blade play somehow, got no idea what I am doing and took well over an hour but pretty happy with it now.

Now to find a local place that'll work on the blade itself. I do not trust myself to sharpen, and the tip needs a little bit of work. It's not horrible, but it looks it's been well used. Cant bring it to factory new, but I could see the edge looking better.

*edit*

Ohh god she's an enabler. May have got a few more...coming in the mail...like...3...

She snagged one of these, so now we can both be rocking benchmades.

I guess it's better than the animu figures I used to buy, can actually use these things to like...open packages which contain more knives. Yknow when you end up working 80 hours and get no days off, plans to do fun stuff cancelled, no time to even do laundry, sometimes, it's ok to treat yourself once twice three six times.

Commodore VIC-20. :P
I unfortunately have no experience with those, but kinda wish that style of computer didn't just die. Those old machines seemed like fantastic gateways into programming, a lot simpler than me trying to learn on windows now. Since I have no experience with those machines, I have almost purchased a ZX spectrum...multiple times...I've been tempted. But the pi400 as an emulation box would be fun, and I got no idea how retropie works, but if I could also have access to using it for basic programming education purposes that would be fantastic.

That mini-desktop is a mostly-prebuilt kit system that I'm using for all of my Linux exploits. It's an Intel NUC 9, which is a little barebones system that still hasn't quite gotten over its edgy high school phase:
Raspberry Pis have gotten surprisingly capable over the years. The Pi4/400 make pretty good Retropie boxes as long as you don't try to use anything excessive like bsnes. They blow away the specs of the (S)NES and PlayStation classic boxes, and you don't have to jump through any hoops to get your own stuff loaded on them. The Pi400 actually reminds me a lot of the old 8-bit microcomputers back in the day, so it makes me feel nostalgic for my old Commodore VIC-20. :P
Cute little machine. Crazy how much you can get from a tiny package now a days. Might make for a fun future project to get my feet wet with linux, I assume they're pretty cheap to build?

And on baba, totally get it on switch. Switch is so good to take over to peoples houses and show them cool quirky stuff. WINDJAMMERS anyone?
