Title: I am legend
Post by: Milk Chan on November 27, 2007, 03:02:34 AM
Yeah I know it's early and whatnot, but is anyone going to see it? I'll be out of town by the time it comes out for winter break so I might see it then. It looks like a pretty good blockbuster to me. I haven't read the book or seen the other movies based off the book, but for some reason the whole infection thing sounds like a 28 days later thing to me (which I of course also haven't seen...if someone can clarify if it is similar in any way).

They still haven't rated it yet and it comes out 12/14, so obviously they're debating whether it's going to be PG-13 or R and I really hope for R. This is one of the few blockbuster movies I really want to see and if it gets PG-13, then every annoying loud as fuck child 10 and under is gonna end up going with their parents which i'd prefer not happen :/.

Lol, I kinda laugh at the US movie ratings. Everything you guys get rated R is usually rated 18-A here, which means if you're under 18, you need an adult with you. But even then, nobody really enforces it, so there are still a bunch of younger people there anyway.
I don't think I've ever seen a movie rated R in canada play at the local theaters, lol. (Well, there aren't that many anyway)

R = Restricted

Restricted = DONT SEE IT. Who wouldnt see it? Minors. Who are minors? People less than 18. Sounds a lot to me LIKE THE SAME SHIT.

Don't laugh at something you're not familiar with.

oh, and im totally going to watch this movie. the commercials have gotten me so STOKED to see it.

Eh? I'm laughing because most of the movies rated R in the US are rated 18-A, which means that people under 18 can bet in with a parent. Oh, and I should also mention that they hardly ever even ask you if you're under 18, so as long as you're not 12, you can usually get in without a parent. THAT means that MINORS, are watching a movie rated 18-A in canada, which would be rated R in the US. THAT means that MINORS are watching a movie they couldn't watch over there.

To get rated R in canada, a movie has to be pretty terrible.

USA:

    * R - Restricted - Under 17 requires accompanying parent or adult 17 or older with photo ID.
    * NC-17 - No one 17 and under is admitted.

Canada (excluding Quebec):

    * 18A - 18 Accompaniment - Children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. In the Maritimes, under 14s are prohibited from viewing the film.
    * R - Restricted - Admittance restricted to people 18 years of age or older.
    * A - Adult - Admittance restricted to people 18 years of age or older. Sole purpose of the film is the portrayal of sexually explicit activity and/or explicit violence.

18A = R, R = NC-17. It's really (nearly) the exact same thing...

Except the fact that R here means you have to be 17 not 18 to go on your own.

And as was stated up above, Under 17 requires parent, meaning 17+ can get in on their own with ID and under 17 needs a parent. So really 18-A is a year later than R. Same thing.
But basically R=17+ can see it without parent, NC-17=only 18+ (and there's VERY FEW films that get that rating due to how much money that it would lose).

I want to see it. It looks pretty tight, and Will Smith is a badass so it should be good regardless.

You know what I really want to see, though, that comes out that same day? The new Alvin and the Chipmunks movie. Quick, dual-movie discussion! :O

Damn separatists in quebec.... Quebec is always trying to be weird. I mean, anywhere else in canada, you can make a right hand turn even on a red light. There, you can't. Here, and most other places, the traffic lights are vertical, there, they're horizontal. Weirdos.

And yeah, if you see anything marked R here, it's like seeing NC-17, which is practically a death sentence to anything but porn. I was pointing out the difference between what R means to people in the US, and what it means in Canada.

Ok, I hope it will be R/A-18 then.

I heard "bom chika wah wah" in the preview, so I thought "wow that movie is gonna be epic fail oh well :(".

Wow you're a fucking idiot you're gonna base an entire movie off of one line in it?

Yes I am :).

I wasn't commenting on the "I hope it will be..." part, but the difference itself. I was talking in a general sense, because I'm so used to seeing movies advertised as R and then even when I was under 18, being able to walk in and see them without anyone asking. Canada is fairly lax about their ratings and enforcing certain restrictions and such. I mean, take cigarettes. I know places in town that rarely ask anyone for ID, especially if they happen to know that person, which means that minors around here have a pretty easy of getting stuff like that.

R/A-18

lol politically correctedness. xD

(Most >_> ) Canadians are more than likely used to "converting" American rating systems to theirs. I'm not about to list all of the many different ratings, so I'll just stick with the one my own country uses. xD

But seriously, the previews left me wet. I'm already so excited. Plus, it has will smith. "I, robot" was aaight, but hopefully this one should be better. f ya.

"I, robot" was aaight

Dude, it was an Asimov film, as long as the acting isn't pure shit, and the effects are good, just about anything Asimov wrote should be an amazing movie, lol. Seriously, Isaac Asimov is the god of fiction.

Seriously? The movie has almost nothing to do with the book minus the three laws being added in there.  It's completely NOT an Asimov story.  Asimov was the first author to write Science Fiction stories about robots which didn't employ a Frankenstein Complex.  Gah.  Then the movie is about robots attacking humans.
Plus,  I, Robot the book was a collection of short stories which aren't necessarily related to each other.  (Pretty hard to make a movie about.)

Lol, shows how much I read that one...

I happen to have Nine Tomorrows, and the first 4 books in the foundation series, and 1 other, which I can't name... But overall, Asimov is an amazing author.

I'm so horribly, hideously excited about this movie. I want to see it so bad. I have a total zombie obsession, so :U

Also: I saw The Mist last weekend, and was really, really surprised. That was a great movie.
