Title: Has anyone read Catcher in the Rye because
Post by: TimJing on July 26, 2008, 02:00:02 AM
christ it was a good one. It made me think, more than books usually do without having to have them explained to me. You know what I mean?

And now that I'm done reading, there are things I compare in real life to things in the book, people, places. What the hell. Someone else talk to me.

I kinda read it when I was in the 11th grade, but much like any other book I'm forced to read for a class, I tend to not "really" read it.  I've always thought that I'd like to read it under my own wills though.

I should go get that from the library.  :3

I'll probably get really bored one of these days and give it a good read, if I'm not assigned to read it for class before then.

Where did you come from? I've been wondering...

And hell, yeah, it is.

I haven't read it (we don't read it in the highschool I went to.) but I definitely want to.

I can never understand people not really "reading" books they're forced to. I've been forced to read some books, and I've enjoyed most of them a fair bit. Plus, reading them properly would usually result in not having to cheat on those damn chapter questions and such, because I actually payed attention.

I do have a question about the book though, something that was unclear to me: Was he in a mental institution at the beginning/end of the book?

My mom's vagina

I like how it is a frame story.  It really blew my mind when I got to the end of it.  Of course I haven't read it in a few years.

It's a good book but far overrated.  Had to read it in high school and  can remember thinking of the main character as the first ever emo kid in recorded history.  Unless there were some ancient Greek emos I didn't know about.  Possibly emo Spartans.

Seems to me that Salinger was crazy himself and decided to write about it.  Not that this is bad; I'd love to write a book about the strange thought processes I tend to have or the random things I tend to do.

Salinger, last I heard, has decided to lock himself in a cabin somewhere and produce no new material for his haplessly emo fanbase.  My english teacher told us she wished he would die already so someone can raid his cabin and publish the books he's no doubt been writing all these years.

Have you heard the term Greek Tragedy? Yes, there were emo Greeks. And probably Emo ancestors before them.
