That is actually pretty funny, lol. If my CPU got to 70 degrees I think my computer would explode.

vidz plz

Yeah, I was a little surprised.  My system wasn't even that dirty but it really made the difference.

I wouldn't have even known if I hadn't done a "dmesg | tail" to try and diagnose some NFS issues in my Linux installation.  When I saw all of those throttling messages I figured that it was about time to clean muh shit.  I'm really amazed that a fairly small amount of dust and grime made a 20C difference, though.  I have to say, if nothing else, the P4's do really well under extreme heat.  The thing didn't even start throttling until it passed 70C and the throttling was enough to keep its temperature under 75C without affecting performance all that much.

It's amazing how much a stage1 install of Gentoo exercises your processor.

Read to here and then laughed, glad to hear you haven't poisoned you're self yet.

Not yet!  I'm sure it'll happen someday if I keep putting big bottles of rubbing alcohol next to bottles of water, though. ;P

Also it looks like heplay BF2 right before he went on his spree. Waiting for another crusade against videogames now.

Oh, I totally understand, then.  Playing BF2 makes me want to go on a killing spree...that game is awful.

But in all seriousness, yeah, you know what Jacko's reaction is going to be to all of this, despite the fact that the killer supposedly told people not to blame games in his video.

Well, keep in mind that I am running a Preshott. ;P

The grill for the side panel fan was pretty gunky, as was the heatsink.  I wasn't able to do a perfect job with it but I still managed a 20C decrease (50-55C under load, 40C idle).

It's kind of sad that my laptop runs much cooler under load despite the cramped design (not to mention is faster).  If I knew my board supported the Pentium M, I'd probably upgrade to one.

I had a bottle of water and a bottle of isopropyl alcohol on my desk.  I had the rubbing alcohol because I was cleaning my PC fans (when you see your processor hit 70-75C you tend to quickly get in the mood to clean your fans and heatsinks) and I had the water on my desk because, well, I was thirsty.

To make a long story short and cut back on as many of the extraneous details as possible, I went to take a drink and almost drank the rubbing alcohol.

Hmm...maybe this have gone in the drug/alcohol thread? XD

Yet another trademark Spectere Post.

Oh?
* Spectere turns the sarcasm knob up.

So compatibility issues due to different hardware, such as different ASICs, and lenses, as well as disk read issues that seem to plague the newer slimline PS2s don't count as hardware issues?

Read issues?  You mean like the PS2s have always had?  And it's kind of ironic how you're talking about the slim PS2's drive being crap when you have a v4.

I've dealt with many slim and fat PS2s in my day and, well, I've only seen one disc fail to play on a slim PS2.  Thing is, that same disc didn't play on a fat one either, so that point is moot.

And naturally you're going to have some compatibility issues with new hardware.  Given how many game programmers seem to refuse to stick to any sort of documented standard it's amazing more games don't fail between hardware revisions.

Oh, and unifying the CPU and GPU into a combined chip doesn't count as different hardware either?

Hence the reason I said "same-perfomance" rather than "same-chipset."  Try to read more carefully next time, hmm?

Yeah, wow, that blows. That's probably, like, the single worst minimum wage in the country :x

That's what Ohio's was not too long ago.

I think it's up to 6/7-something there now (took long enough)...not sure what it is in Maryland.

You mean the hardware that, performance-wise, is no different from the fat PS2s (besides the space-consuming legacy junk being left out)?

Yeah, it's crap alright. ::)

Windows NT doesn't assume anything, it can boot from any device.  It doesn't matter at all where NTLDR is located, as long as Windows can see it.

And why couldn't it be a driver related issue?  How do you suppose your disks are read?  If there is a conflict or a bug in the driver it could corrupt data, and the boot loader is NOT immune to such things.  I've seen things like that happen before; bad initialization code can lead to issues like that.  Rather than trying to shoot down my advice, arguing with me, and blaming Microsoft for computer problems that only you are having, try some of my suggestions (or at least say that you have). :/

Oh we can go invisible, but we can't do shit but walk around when we're invisible, when we want to attack, we have to go back visible which takes like 3 or 4 seconds before you can even do an attack, and by that time they've turned around and spotted you, and start shooting at you because they shoot at every person they see.

Spies really aren't supposed to run around attacking people, though.  It's more of a recon class.  Friendly fire does make it sort of suck, though, due to people reflexively shooting their teammates to uncover spies.

What I think would be better than friendly fire is mirror damage.  Like, if you shoot your teammate, they don't take any damage but you receive, say, 50% of what they would have received.  You would, of course, get griefers that run in front of your rocket to screw you over, but to counter that they could make it so that projectile weapons either don't do mirror damage or that mirror damage isn't done after the projectile is in the air for a given period of time (500ms, perhaps).

They really nerfed the spy compared to TF1/TFC.  Even if friendly fire were on in those two games the spy had a very nice grenade type that really messed with the players (it caused hallucinations and warbled the view slightly).

What the crap just happened to the site. I kept getting an error saying it couldn't connect to the database...

The, uh, database server went down momentarily?  It happens to all sites that utilize databases.  Nothing's perfect.

Speaking of that, another thing that I love about SMF is that I get these whenever such a thing happens, even for a moment:

Subject: spectere.net: SMF Database Error!

There has been a problem with the database!

This is a notice email to let you know that SMF could not connect to the database, contact your host if this continues.

What makes you think that it's "Windows not liking Linux?"  I have four operating systems on my computer now and I don't seem to be having any problems.  In the seven years experience I've had with NT I've been using Linux on my main system for over five of them.

It's NOT a problem with Windows.  Update your drivers.  And no, fucking with the boot loader should NOT be a user-friendly task.  Even Linux distros keep the users distanced from lilo/GRUB in a lot of cases.
