Title: Cloverfield, or, Commercial for the toughest camera in the world (spoilers)
Post by: Milk Chan on January 17, 2008, 10:25:19 PM
If you haven't heard of it...well I don't know what to say.

Anyways anyone that saw advance screenings of transformers saw a preview for this movie, back then there was no title and it was a huge cool mystery trailer, all that was known was a January 08 release.

Now we know it's called Cloverfield and it's about an attack on New York. It comes out tomorrow. I'm gonna go see it on Sunday though :/. Looks like it'll be pretty cool.

Anyone else going to see it?

Dunno, looks pretty cool but I'm not sure if it'd be worth actually paying money to see.

I just saw it, and liked it. I don't want to give away the ending, but someone gave away the style of the ending to me, and because of that, I knew what to expect and really enjoyed watching the movie.

Best monster movie ever. A lot of people walked out due to motion-sickness.

Best monster movie ever.

WHAT DID I SAY? Also lol at motion sickness, I've only had that problem once and it was awful.

Yeah, I went with 4 other people, and one of them had to keep refilling his drink because of the camera work.

7 of us went last night. I loved it. I'm the kind of guy that likes to learn all that there is to learn about the monster so I was disappointed in that respect.  We stayed after the credits and listened to the static message. I missed what it said so I looked it up.

http://www.themoviespoiler.com/Spoilers/cloverfield.html

The very bottom of the page has a couple really good drawings of the monster and the radio transmission after the credits played normally and in reverse. both ways have a message that is very hinting of something.

ugh, I really didn't like the movie. Other than the fact the movie was shot in first person, I felt it was just another suspenseful movie. One thing that bothered me was the fact that the main characters were retarded sheep. I can't stand the idea that people in that situation wouldn't be moving towards survival. instead they chased down that dudes dying friend. fuk dat shit nigga.

Humans are stupid and out of touch.  I don't think most people in a city would even know how to survive -- let alone be able to remain calm -- if there was a planet-changing disaster or whatever.

I haven't seen the movie yet so I'm not really defending it (though I probably will see it tomorrow), I'm just saying.

I thought it was pretty awesome. There weren't any gaping plotholes, and aside from people acting fairly irrationally (which is understandable given the situation), it was well put together.

I thought it was good. There were some parts I cringed a bit since they were unexpected, like the quarantine tent silhouette scene. Apparently the rest of the theater hated it, more of a cult movie I would guess. I waited to hear the radio transmission at the end but I misread the post and thought it meant the credits would scroll in reverse at the end and play a scene of a transmission...so I wasn't paying attention to it :/.

Eggman was right though, quite a few people did leave due to motion sickness, one couple left with their 3 year old daughters (well what did you expect to be in the movie >_>). I went to the bathroom at the end of the movie and there was vomit on the floor...I wonder if it was from someone who left the movie early.

Hah, the Tent scene was probably my favorite part, I didn't see that coming at all, it was just like "HOLY SHIT BITCHES EXPLODING".

KNOCKED UP. SUPERBAD. GRINDHOUSE. 300. ATHF MOVIE. DIE HARD 4. HOT ROD. JUNO. WALK HARD: THE DEWEY COX STORY. TRANSFORMERS.

Spiderman 3 was ok, but yeah everything else sucked. Superhero movies are generic these days and the same plot. No matter how badass they make the trailer look, they're ALWAYS  "Loser or popular guy gets some crazy mishap and becomes all supergenes and shit and saves new york from some villian that CONVENIENTLY pops up when a superhero comes around. Then he has that shit to deal with while falling in love with some hot girl that likes him."

Well I edited that and added more. I had to make sure the others were 2007 and not 2006/2008. 2007 movies were a blur to me.

i guess grindhouse looked good, though most people didn't like death proof, 300 looks kind of meh, athf movie could be good, don't care about die hard 4, haven't seen juno yet, same with walk hard, transformers was nowhere near as good as this, etc., etc.

I saw it again today, looking for stuff I didn't see the first time through. It seems like the rest of the people on that theater were doing the same, because I didn't hear anyone yell at the screen at the end. Then again, who else ever goes to a 4:00 matin

Actually, the splash at the end was the Satellite from the Tagruato company crashing. On the tagruato site, there is an article about a satellite crashing into the atlantic ocean. The Slusho! theory is correct, but the most common seems to be that the satellite had awoke the monster in the ocean.

That movie was great.  Missed what happened to Jason, though, because I had to go spring a leak.  Was the satellite crashing an after-credits scene?  I don't remember that happening.

The satellite was in the very last scene, at Coney Island. It's on the right of the screen, way in the distance.

Jason died while they were crossing a bridge. I'm pretty sire it was the monster's tail, but I know that something hit the bridge and collapsed a large area, which Jason was in.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure after the monster hit the building then ran down the street and into the water, then swam back under the bridge and hit it in the process. Also now that I think about it this movie has so many improbabilities.

Really? I didn't think anything there was so implausable that it damaged my sense of immersion, aside maybe from people acting like idiots. I mean, I didn't even think the camera was unnaturally durable, or had hideously long battery life. I mean, when you think about it, the entire movie takes about 6 hours, and the camera isn't even on the whole time, it's filmed in short bursts. The only times it really suffers severe punishment are when it drops out of the chopper, and lands on wet grass, and after the bombing, which I suppose is fairly odd, but it's perfectly believable that the camera was broken at that point, but the storage media survived.

I meant that even is something that big lived that deep in the sea (which is possible) wouldn't really be able to survive in our environment without suffocating or being crushed under it's own weight. That and basicly everything about the parasites.

Well bites from a ton of normal animals on earth can make you swell up like a balloon. And there are a lot or chemicals when mixed together are known to produce really violent reactions. Maybe something in the bite and something in the human body just doesn't sit well together.

It's a science-fiction movie, allow them a little creative freedom, rofl. Besides, bitches asplodin' is basically the awesomest part of the movie.

This sirs is what happens when you put H2O and Sodium together

http://theodoregray.com/PeriodicTable/AlkaliBangs/011_Na_hammer.html (http://theodoregray.com/PeriodicTable/AlkaliBangs/011_Na_hammer.html)

Assuming that it took long enough to collect and hit a large enough body of water in her body, a simple chemical in the creature's saliva that contained sodium could have eventually made her go boom :o

Not *quite* as unbelievable as you may have thought before, eh (not saying it isn't unbelievable lolz).

oh yeah i've known about this reaction since like 7th or 8th grade lolz

Yeah, sodium in water is hilarious stuff. However I don't understand where it collect in her, away from moisture. Best to not attempt to explain it.

Sodium is SO much cooler if you stick it in a giant pickle jar with a big rubber stopper. It actually explodes, instead of making a bit of sparks.

(And can put a hole in ceiling tiles :P)

I finally saw that movie last night. Jesus fuck. I felt like I was in shock after leaving it.

Oh, and apparently the satellite falling wasn't what woke the monster, but the deep sea mining that the company that makes Slusho! was doing for a new flavour was what woke it up. Ironically, that is the same company that Rob was vice president of. (according to http://www.themoviespoiler.com/Spoilers/cloverfield.htm)

I'm getting 404'd, but that makes sence. Rob was going to Japan where Slusho headquarters was. Kind of dumb that NONE of this was mentioned in the movie.

I donno, it's oddly rewarding to figure the stuff out that isn't included, and even if you don't know it, it's still a worthwhile thing to listen to.
