Title: The YouTube Videos Thread
Post by: Spectere on January 26, 2008, 04:32:19 AM
Throw anything here that isn't worthy of discussion.

Don't post if you doesn't have a YouTube link to share.  Don't reply to someone else's post unless you have a related video.  If you seriously want to discuss a video, let me know and I'll split it off of this thread.

These are the rules.  Follow them or face my wrath!  HAHAHA...hrm.

I'd like to start off this thread with this, because it's funny: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NsEqSbppPBk (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NsEqSbppPBk)

Death Cab for Cutie - I Will Follow You Into The Dark

Beautiful song, and a very well done music video.

And don't be going on about it being emo and shit, because this is NOT emo.. It's indie....

(Disclaimer, even if it was emo, I'd listen to it, because I'm open to all kinds of music...)

What a jackass.

On topic:

(M@D) Marisa stole the Precious Mahjong things

A M@D video made by the people who made the song. The song is about how Marissa fell in love with Alice, and the video is all about Marissa and Alice playing mahjong and Marissa not letting Alice get a good hand.

Looks all hand drawn and such. Pretty nice for an amateur video, lol.

Edit: this is a good melodic death metal/trance song:

Blood Stain Child is a japanese. They're one of the best death metal bands out there for what they do. They're like a japanese bodom. But that song is one of their new songs. Their older stuff is so much better.

Blood Stain Child - Silence of Northern Hell

Just listen to the solos.

EDIT: After listening to some of their newer stuff, I like the electronic stuff added in, but I still prefer the older stuff when they sounded like the japanese bodom.

I was hoping for a "technical" review, not "well, these are my thoughts on how it's turned out, unbiased" which is how he presented it. It's a bit more technical than "SONY SUKLZ0RZ!!1!!1@" but not by a long shot. I wanted some review on the Technical stuff. How they make use of the Cell Processor, how well the thing really runs, and such.

Kyle Landry, one of the many undiscovered youtube musicians. He was banned a while ago for posting like, 150ish videos of him playing piano covers of anime and game music. Now. he's back, and focusing more on his own improvisions (of which this is one) as well as classical music, and the odd game/anime song. He's become really good over the time I've watched him.

This is a 9 (nearly 10) minute piano improv he did that blew me away.

Gregory Hoskins, a canadian singer songwriter who is just coming out with his solo album after being the leader of Gregory Hoskins & The Stick People since 1991. His voice is absolutely haunting at times, and his songwriting is absolutely brilliant, despite most songs being him simply singing and playing the acoustic guitar.

Anyhoo, I find this amusing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixToQbFc53A (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixToQbFc53A).  And if anyone has the urge to scream "OLDDDDDDD" at any point, feel free to castrate yourself. :3

Heh....Wanna see someone good? This guy helped Rahzel with some shiit. And he has his own beats/style. He dosen't bite Rahzels shit like 60% of the other beatboxers do.
Now THIS guy is a fantastic beatboxer. Hes Belgian. I honestly think hes better than Rahzel.

2 parts. Watch them both, he does some awesome shit in the second one. He even does some of Kenny Muhammad stuff.

And here he is trying to teach Rahzel one of his things. "The Echo"

In case you've heard of the Fall Out Boy cover of Michael Jackson's Beat It, you might be interested in knowing where they got the idea. A while before the FOB version came out, Pierce The Veil made their own cover of that song. In my opinion, it's WAY better than FOB's piece of crap. Pierce The Veil's singer actually almost sounds like MJ.

Arsis - We Are The Nightmare

Wicked band. Combines death metal's heaviness with wicked melodeath solos and black metal type vocals.

I raged. A LOT.

KJ Sawka - A drummer who plays Drum and Bass music. Unlike most D&B artists, he plays his drums live. Yes, he actually plays the beats himself.

Madeleine Peyroux - Between The Bars - A cover of the Eliott Smith song.
&feature=related Eliott Smith - Between The Bars - The original.

Both of those are amazing versions of an absolutely beautiful song. It's so haunting and sad. It really sucks that Eliott Smith is dead.

Okay guys, seriously, first page:

Don't post if you doesn't have a YouTube link to share.  Don't reply to someone else's post unless you have a related video.  If you seriously want to discuss a video, let me know and I'll split it off of this thread.

If you want to discuss a particular video in more depth, either ask me (via PM) to split it from the thread or PM the person who posted it.

And if anyone complains that I don't have a video attached this this I'm going to ban you for a week for being a smartass.

This HAS to be the greatest thing to ever happen in competitive gaming. Also before you watch, a parry is (at least, to my knowledge) when you block by pushing forward and backward, and it has a small time frame before it turns into a regular block (which still adds slight damage). That is how he did what he did near the end.

I'm not even a huge street fighter fan, but this is still damn crazy.

UGH, I HATE THAT COMMERCIAL.

It was kinda funny the first time, but after seeing it played about twice every commercial break for 3 or 4 hours at once, I've gotten VERY tired of it.

To remedy the gay of that video:

Bobby McFerrin - 'Round Midnight (1987) - This is Bobby McFerrin at his finest. Who else can imitate the sound of a saxophone vocally? Not to mention the fact that he's doing it on an absolutely amazing track. Thelonious Monk's 'Round Midnight.

Plus, it has Herbie Hancock on Piano, Tony Williams on Drums and Buster Williams on Bass. That is one hell of a group.

John McCain, the true patriot.

Voters, listen to me. He didn't betray Conservatism. No... ...far
from it. He was a hero who died for his country. He carried out his
campaign knowing full well what was going to happen. Self-sacrifice...
...because that was his duty.
The Maverick's defection was a ruse set up by the US government. It was all a
big drama staged by Washington so they could get their hands on the executive house.

And The Maverick was the star of the show. They planned it so that they could
get the popular support that Bill Clinton inherited... ..and destroy evangelicals at the same time. Only a legendary hero like The Maverick could have earned
FOX News' trust. Finding out where the popular vote was hidden was
to be his greatest mission. Everything was going according to plan... But
then something happened that no one could have predicted. Sarah Palin was shown to have
fired an American-made nuclear warhead at a herd of deer.
The Press demanded that the GOP provide proof that she was qualified... They couldn't just abort the operation to steal the whitehouse. So
the operation itself was greatly expanded and revised.

The authorities in
Washington knew that in order to prove its innocence they'd have to get
rid of John Mccain... ...and that one of their own would have to do the job.
The public couldn't be allowed to find out about it... not ever. This,
they concluded, would be the best way to keep the whole thing under wraps.
The Maverick wouldn't be allowed to come back to Washington as president. And he wouldn't be
allowed to kill himself. His life would be ended by his most beloved
demographic...

The authorities in

The public couldn't be allowed to find out about it... not ever. This,

The Maverick wouldn't be allowed to come back to Washington as president. And he wouldn't be
allowed to kill himself. His life would be ended by his most beloved
demographic...

That was the way the government wanted it. That was the
mission he was given. And he had no choice but to carry it out... His
loss at your hands was duty he had to fulfill. Out of duty, he turned
his back on his own beliefs... A lesser man would have been crushed by
such a burden...The taint of disgrace will follow him to his grave. Future generations
will revile him... In the Republican Party, as a senile old man with no sense of how to campaign... And in the Democratic party, as a monster who wanted to unleash a 100 year war... He will go down in official history as a failure.

And
no one will ever understand him... That... ..was John McCain's final mission. And like a true soldier, he saw it through the end. But I think he wanted
you, of all people to know the truth. He wanted to live on... ...in your
memory. Not as a politician, but as a man. But... ...he was forbidden to
tell you himself. And that's why he told me...

History will never know what he did. No one will ever learn the truth. His story...his debriefing... ...will endure only in your heart. Everything he did, he did for his country. He sacrificed his life and his honor for his native land. He was a real hero. He was a true patriot.

I didn't write this, but oh my god is it good.

Yeah; also called Sorcerer Hunters, in the US of A.  It's the ED.  Probably one of my favorites, if not my favorite J-Pop song ever.  Most of the live versions don't even come close to competing with the studio version, but like I said, I came multiple times when I saw that live version.

<- studio version

I pasted it in #mzx a while back, though, and everybody there seemed to hate the song :-(

I actually know it better by it's japanese name (Apparently I know anime better by their japanese name more often than by the american name.)

But yeah, I used to like some Jpop (and I still do like stuff like Angela Aki and the odd artist like that), but generally, I hate the electronic Jpop stuff like that. I will admit to enjoying some stuff by Megumi Hayashibara though, lol. Her tracks for Slayers are awesome.

Reminds me of how much I HATE T-Pain. And shitty vocoder cover up. It's not even like using auto-tune to mask any slightly off notes, it's full out "I can't sing worth shit, so I'll pass EVERYTHING through a vocoder".

I did like the part of the video using still pictures. At least that was cool.

What did you grow up on? I will admit that I'm getting VERY sick of the rock genre, considering everything that's come out since oh, 10 years ago, give or take, has been absolute crap.

A selection of music that is about 10 years old, or so.

White Stripes - 7 Nation Army

3 Doors Down - Kryptonite

Eve 6 - Inside Out

Semisonic - Closing Time

Fastball - The Way

Goo Goo Dolls - Iris

That sucks. Even if I wasn't really into music, my parents always had the local rock station on whenever we were in the car and such, so I grew up listening to rock. I usually try to stay far away from popular music, but I will admit that there are some good songs released occasionally.

Also, Peter Gabriel is amazing. He was awesome in Genesis, and solo.

Yeah, Pendulum is a pretty awesome band.

Except when they make something that isn't drum and bass. They really should have stuck to stuff like Hold Your Color.

i don't hate the characters or lore, i just hate bullshit like carriers, dark templars, and psy storm, it's fuckin bullshit and all of that is back in sc2 while key terran and zerg units (no firebats,no vultures, hydras moved to tier 2, no scourge, no lurkers).  but, new units were added, so we will see how it all pans out throughout the beta and beyond.

obviously afrolegends won, but still, a gief making it to the semifinals...even beating alex valle, YEASSSSSSSS!11

for those outside of the know, afrolegends to sf2hdr is justin wong to sf4.

*edit*

actually maby justin wong to mvc2.  in sf4, there's that jarp named diago, and there's plenty of people better than diago.  in mvc2 there's pretty much like two people, being justin and sanford.  i mean the chingys don't have much of an hdr scene as far as i know.

Meh, the first round was more impressive then the second (that whole two failed jump ins and him chasing and grabbing him on the second one was fairly awesome). I've seen so many people parry Chun's super that I just stopped caring, it seems fairly simple to do after the first hit anyways. Still, pulling off that super mid super would be really fucking hard.

I love watching this guy fight, He's not pro or anything but he's a monster. Also that's not an infinite at the end.

Dear god, he's nuts. You have to watch more then just the first few fights, the Hugo player is good but he damn near perfects him those fights.

yeah i still don't really understand 3s yet.  it feels like (not even joking when i say this) a slower version of sf4.  but i haven't really played many people (like one guy on ggpo) and ive been just trying to grasp the very basics(character moves for one, simple super cancels, parry system), so yeah, i don't know much yet.  working on Q, might use urien because he's high tier and a fun charge character.  im not a tier whore(dude, sf2hdr gief, BOTTOM OF THE LIST), but like if im having problems learning a game, i should find a higher tier character i enjoy playing to get rolling.

and for something educational

fucking love this stuff, check it out if you are interested in SCIENCE!  chemistry in particular.

3S is less about zoneing and more about footsies and pokes. Plus it seems to have much crazier combos then SF4 has (never see anything like that Ibuki video in SF4).

While I can see why they did that, it's retarded anyway. Country lock downs? What the fuck? Seriously, what the fuck? Activision and Blizzard? Fuck I hate greedy fuckers.

Why is it that we are continually working under the ideal of "fuck the user, all we need them for is to buy the game"? When the fuck are people going to understand that fucking over the person who you want to buy your game, is a BAD IDEA?

Title: Re: The YouTube Videos Thread
Post by: vladgd on June 10, 2010, 12:35:30 AM
funny i knew the exact video you linked based on your rant.

so basically i have to use sources outside of battle.net to chat up random people to play against.  GREAT IDEA...no, not really.  a big part of pc online gaming is community, and chat rooms help people communicate.

if you intend on playing against people internationally, buy a new copy of the game for that region...yeah...funny thing is the new battle.net is somewhat based off from xbox live.  but with xbox live, i can boot up super street fighter 4, and play against my english, and australian bros if i choose to.

not sure if i linked this before, but this guy does good work, and the music he chose for the video is pretty catchy.

My friend was telling me about this Insane Clown Posse music video that was retardedly stupid that SNL did a spoof of. I've never really listened to them or seen their videos, but I've had friends who played it occasionally so I kinda got the jist of what kind of music they did. When he showed me the video above I actually thought he was showing me the spoof. I was seriously shocked when he said that was the original.

I have a strong doubt that anyone here listens to ICP, but either way the video is so goddamn idiotic I think anyone can get a laugh out of it. And once you watch it, watch the SNL spoof:

Even more hilarious (fast forward to 2:30 to get past the initial dick wagging) simply because it's actually a fine machine (or at least was): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJtJUVyEyYY (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJtJUVyEyYY)

That's what happens when you push your engine output way up, don't reinforce everything else to handle the increased power and torque, and drive it hard.  It sucks, but it could have definitely been avoided.

Really, it's the same thing that happened in the other video, only with about five times the engine output, far more torque, and a piece of clutch moving fast enough to snap the engine block in half.

Song about banelings. Features Husky rapping! Fucking hilarious.

Two awesome youtube famous singers working together doing a really well done cover. I like it better than the original by a fair margin.

Both songs were produced and arranged by KurtHugoSchnider (http://www.youtube.com/KurtHugoSchneider), who sings in the banelings track (He usually sticks to arranging and producing though).

Most of my videos would be music because I can't stand wading through the tons of shit videos pretending to be worth watching that youtube has accumulated over the years. I stick to something I know won't make me want to kill small animals.

case and point: amazing cover of Elliott Smith - Between the Bars:
Title: Re: The YouTube Videos Thread
Post by: MortifiedocAlot on December 30, 2010, 02:46:31 AM
Well, it's a damn good song. Never really heard of Elliot Smith, but I like it.

Also speaking of songs, I found this oddly catchy and awesome.

Title: Re: The YouTube Videos Thread
Post by: Bobbias on December 30, 2010, 09:34:06 AM
And here's the original, lmao:

Elliott Smith was a singer-songwriter who spent a lot of time in Portland. He was very much a tortured artist, and had trouble with alcoholism and drugs, and eventually died in some weird circumstances. He was the one who wrote Miss Misery (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zH8-lQ9CeyI) for Good Will Hunting, and was nominated for an oscar for the song, and performed it at the oscars (although he was very skeptical about doing so).

Between the Bars is probably my favourite song of his, but Waltz #2 (http://DXZFOZGhxzQ) is probably my second favourite. If you like this stuff, you should definitely look into getting some of his stuff. The 2 CDs I recommend are XO and Either/Or.

Also:
I fucking love this cover so much. Sam Tsui and Christina Grimmie are both amazing singers, and I actually like the song. I'm pretty sure I posted this somewhere here before, but I'm posting it again because it's absolutely amazing.

girl tosses glass at boyfriend's head because he interrupted a show, and it cuts him to the point were he needs stitches and she refuses to drive him to the hospital and laughs at him AND yells at him for getting blood on the carpet and she's surprised that he wants to break up with him.

This one is just comical. Also she gets what she completely deserves.

I'm starting to notice patterns in how people lie and I'm becoming an increasingly jaded person. The sure mental gymnastics people use to justify how horrifically shitty they treat other people is astounding.
