Title: Dumb Drivers
Post by: OmegaOmni on April 29, 2008, 04:48:14 PM
Don't lie they are every where.  Some how dumb parents make dumb kids who end up being dumb drivers.
For example:  I park in one of the parking decks at school (because there is this thing called classes I must attend) and I obviously park my car there.  Now as I am going down one of the lower level ramps toward one of the two exits out of the forbidden rat trap, some dumb cu....err....girl comes up the down ramp.  Worst of all she was on her cell phone.  If it was not for my good depth perception and a rather small car (I drive a Sunfire) could you say grid lock because I can.  See, Grid Lock.  There I said it arn't you happy now?

Tell everyone else here if you have a similar story of dumb drivers.

so we proceeded to follow her and fuck with her until she freaked out so bad she pulled over.

THEN A TRAFFIC JAM HAPPENED AND WE FOUND HER AGAIN! :D

I had a guy in a giant truck pull in front of me and go about 30 when I was going 55. I didn't have any time to stop so I pulled into the next lane while there was a car there and almost knocked the guy off the road. Good times, but if I'm crashing into anyone it's not going to be the guy in front of me, then I'm completely at fault.
Title: Re: Dumb Drivers
Post by: Spectere on May 07, 2008, 07:52:43 PM
I had someone almost merge into me today -- completely oblivious to the world.  Best part is that they got pissy and threw up their arms and made a fuss when I beeped at them (rather than being happy I prevented them from causing an accident that would leave them entirely at fault).

Maryland drivers royally suck.  I've had to practically stop signaling lane changes because the fucking morons in this state love to intentionally close gaps when you drive properly.  Not to mention that I've been driving significantly faster than I've ever driven.
Title: Re: Dumb Drivers
Post by: Bobbias on May 07, 2008, 09:58:39 PM
I nearly failed my G2 test due to 2 things: me not being my best, and making a mistake, and some idiot whipping down a hill like it's the end of the world.

I forgot to check my blind spot/mirrors/signal getting out of a parallel park, and some guy comes flying down the hill like a madman, and lays on the horn at me. I of course slammed on the breaks and let him pass. I only got my G2 because a) my instructor was not paying attention at the time, and b) that guy was going way too fast, so even though I was in the wrong for pulling out without checking/signaling, he should have had enough time to stop, anyway.

In Barrie, I saw some guy pull out around a turning line for turning right, into one of the straight through lanes, and proceed to pull a right around the entire right turning lane, cutting someone off and completely messing up that whole intersection for a short time. And that sort of driving is a daily occurrence in Barrie.

Exactly how people on the interstate drive. Most people on I-95 are pretty good drivers (a shit ton of construction at the more southern parts pretty much means being a bad driver = going into a cement railing) but on interstate I've had people go 20 MPH faster then me and pull into my lane getting less then a foot away from my vehicle. Fun times.

Post by: Spectere on May 08, 2008, 12:55:15 AM
I-95 passes through this area too, haha.  I think it goes clear up to New York.

But back on topic, I-95 isn't too terrible over here.  It's I-695 (the Baltimore beltway) that you have to watch out for.  The speed limit is 55mph, but people regularly go 75-85mph, weave in and out of traffic without signaling, etc etc.  It's like they want to cause an accident.

It gets better as you move away from Baltimore, thankfully.  Things thin out a lot when you go toward Sparrows Point (lol hi sharde) and Towson.

Baltimore traffic is HORRID.  It makes me long for Cleveland traffic (which moved at 90mph in the early afternoon, but the fact that the drivers are actually sane makes up for the excessive speed).

According to Miller he was circling the bank to park on the other side when the corner of his travel trailer caught the corner of the bank awning. Next thing he heard was a rumble as the awning started falling against his driver's side door. Somehow he was able to unbuckle the seat beat and exit the other side of his truck as it was falling.

I don't even know what to say about this.

The other day I was driving to pick up my girlfriend sometime during the day. I was in the right lane of a two lane street stopped at a stop light, and then this guy on my left came casually driving past me and just went right through the stop light. If that weren't enough, they continued to drive through the next red light at the next block. And then the next one... They drove through THREE fucking red lights (as in they were already red, not yellow) in a row right in front of me, without even showing any sign of acknowledging what they did. They weren't even speeding either. Just drifting on through like there were no lights at all. And if THAT wasn't enough, as soon as they got to the fourth light, it had just turned green, and remember they were in the left lane, they made a RIGHT turn and cut off about four people, once again totally oblivious.

I fucking HATE idiot drivers.

I live in a town where there a shitload of tourists and I have to deal with all of these white yuppie mother fuckers everyday. Today one of them cut me off when turning onto the highway. She treated a stop sign on the side of the highway as if it were a on ramp or something. I proceeded to tailgate her, scream, "GET THE FUCK OUT OF TOWN KOOK" out of my window, pass and un-pass her and finally I followed her for about 20 minutes. I think she went home and shit herself to death.

It might be the college kids, or the rich people, but no one near my community college can drive for shit. I've almost hit some girl who tried to make it to the interstate on ramp by cutting into my lane, but realized she couldn't make it, so she brakes and pulls back in front of me. Had to pull into her original lane just to miss her. That, and people will stop in the road and wait for turning lane cars to pull up so they can get into the turning lane. Also some person in front of me  braked hard, then I did, then the person behind me braked hard and the person behind him hit him. Fun times.

I like the whole "if you get rear ended, it's never your part" stuff. basically says "if you rear end someone, you were a) following too close, b) not paying attention, c) under the influence of something or d) retarded and shouldn't be on the road."
Title: Re: Dumb Drivers
Post by: Spectere on July 25, 2008, 01:19:15 AM
The only thing I have an issue with when it comes to that law is that if someone pulls out fast enough they can feasibly be on the road, fully in your lane and in your way before you can react.

The only way you could get out of something like that, I think, is if you have a witness.  Thankfully, it's rare that this would happen, but I've been in some areas that have had the right conditions for this sort of thing (read: high speeds, businesses/side streets where a person might make a right hand turn from a stop, etc).

This is usually why I try and pull into the other lane. I've come damn close to taking someone off the road because someone pulled out in front of me.

Well, apparently people around here are scamming the insurance by trying to pass someone, and then slam on their brakes right after they pass the driver, to get rear ended.

Oh, that's okay.  The roads could always be designed as horribly as they are here.

In Youngstown, OH, a road called Market Street intersects with state route 224 (which is my favorite road ever, let me tell ya... *sigh*).  When you are driving eastward, it has a turning light.  When the turning light is unlit, you can turn on green with caution like you can in most intersections.

HOWEVER, for whatever reason, when you're westbound, that intersection has a dedicated left turn signal, making it illegal to make a left on green with caution.  It's complete fucking bullshit -- even in the wee hours of the morning the signal needs to be triggered.  The sensor is really easy to overshoot, meaning that if you don't realize you're not over it you may literally wind up never getting a green arrow.  To make matters worse, that road is regularly patrolled by local police, making pulling an illegal move after midnight an exceedingly risky maneuver.

That's one of the things that I do miss about Maryland -- logical traffic patterns.

Terrible. Well, in a city close by, there's in intersection with 5 roads all intersecting...

Also, when I was in Quebec recently (drove up to a friend's college in the Ottawa Valley, right near the Quebec-Ontario boarder) I saw how terrible some of the in town roads are in Quebec *shudder*.

Yeah, there's one of those around here, too.  They actually call it "Five Points."  To make matters even better, the streets are kind of staggered and have stop signs rather than lights.  Strangely enough, traffic moves in a surprisingly orderly fashion there.

Pennsylvania has a lot of awful roads.  Steep hills, tough to maintain streets...ugh.

Youngstown has some awful roads simply because they never bother to maintain them.  In the winter time you can always tell you're in Youngstown (or Boardman, for that matter -- Boardman rarely plows or salts the roads) when you can't tell the difference between the road and somebody's yard.

So I has a story for a change:

On my way to work I was heading west on Matthews Rd.  when I get to the light to stop because it was red but the left turn signal to get on South Ave. was accute.  Well I get the green to go and some ass hole in a Blazer cuts in front of me making a right.  Then the had to nerve to go slow just to make another right to go to a laundry mat.

Mind you when I see green I go and I mean go.

So, I nearly got rear ended today.

Here's what happened:

I am carpooling with a friend on fridays, and today I left my parents car there and he drove. We got back, and I got into my car. I needed to check for oncoming traffic, because my friend's house is at the bottom of a hill that goes into a corner. I checked as much of the corner as I could see, saw no cars, and proceeded to back up onto the road, and begin to switch from going in reverse to driving, when some fucking jackass comes flying around the corner down the hill going way too fast (it's a 60 zone, and people regularly do 80+ at that corner) and nearly hit me. He proceeds to lay down on the horn and apparently almost try to pass me. Of course, I stepped on the gas and got moving ASAP, but if it weren't for me being in that car, I'd have wished he had actually hit the car. It's jackasses like that that deserve to get into accidents and have whiplash for the rest of their lives.

He was in the wrong, and yet somehow he thinks he has a right to speed and nearly hit someone... And on top of being definitely in the wrong, he thinks he has the right to honk his horn angrily at me. That is just fucking retarded.
Title: Re: Dumb Drivers
Post by: Spectere on October 17, 2008, 05:39:58 PM
Funny, I wound up dealing with a similar kind of moron just yesterday.  Granted, at face value it would seem like it was partially my fault, but when you look at the fact that this jackass was driving the way he was in the first place it kind of negates the very notion of that, I think.

I was driving on a local highway (OH-625 -- Midlothian Blvd) to get to Armegeddon's house for a Civilization 4 LAN party.  For whatever reason, despite the road being very busy at times, the glorious city of Youngstown, OH, neglected to ever add a turning lane.  Basically, if you want to get anywhere you have to stay on the right side of the road so that you don't get held back by people turning left.

There is a stupid six-way intersection near his house where Southern Blvd (which basically consists of two roads running parallel, a train track running between them) crosses Midlothian.  A short distance down the road, roughly a quarter mile down the road, is where I have to make a left-hand turn.  Basically, this involves going down the left land on Midlothian, passing the cars that are waiting an eternity to turn left, then quickly getting into the left lane and ducking into one of the rare turning lanes on that street to make my turn.

As I was preparing to make my turn there was a car that stayed aligned with mine.  The road is a 35mph road and traffic generally goes about 40mph.  Not bad.  Despite the fact that I was signaling to change lanes this idiot wouldn't stop his shit, even with me both slowing down and accelerating up to 45mph.  Finally, I put the pedal down, trying to accelerate in front of him.

I shit you not, this shithead did the same fucking thing to keep me from getting in the lane.  I ultimately wound up being forced to cut him off going 55mph -- 20 over the speed limit -- only succeeding because I reacted first and my car was faster.  Naturally, despite it being completely his fault that I cut him off, he started beeping the horn at me.  It's a shame I was getting right off of that road otherwise I would have probably worked to box him in out of spite.  I hate idiots like that.

bump

Sometimes, dumb drivers truly get what they deserve.

So I was driving down OH-11 about a month ago, going about 70mph (in a 65) in the right lane.  I see a cop in the median watching for speeders.  I maintain a speed of just over 65.  No worries.

Then, the person in the left lane, who was going the same speed as me, suddenly cut me off and jammed on his brakes.  Needless to say, I was forced to do the same thing.  The moron wasn't going so fast that the cop would pull him over, but he panicked and acted like an idiot.

Surprisingly, the cop wasn't amused by his idea of slowing down.  The cop put on his lights, went right around me, and busted him.  I then proceeded to laugh my ass off.

I was walking home from dinner a few days ago when some dipshit trying to make a left turn managed to get into the middle of the street and not turn before he/she got a red light.  Half of the traffic on the other street got blocked up because they were in the way, and the rest of it got blocked up because some other person stopped and got rear-ended.  It was truly a sight to behold.
Title: Re: Dumb Drivers

Oh, I forgot to mention the time that I was driving through Girard, OH.

It was a 35mph road and I was going about the speed limit.  This person in front of me was going 20 so I did what any sane person would do to someone going dangerously slow -- change lanes and pass them.

We get to a red light and the passenger of the van rolls down the window and starts lecturing me about how the speed limit of the road is 25, despite a sign 25 feet in front of us, another sign 100 feet behind us, and numerous other ones on that street all saying "SPEED LIMIT 35."

I didn't even acknowledge them.  The second the light turned green I hit the gas hard, cutting them off in mid-sentence.
Title: Re: Dumb Drivers
Post by: Bobbias on July 27, 2009, 07:07:07 PM
lol. Yeah, around here there are a number of roads that are marked as 80 km/h, that people always seem to do 60 on. That is so goddamned annoying, especially when there's only like, 1 sign on the road, and none on the other road it intersects with until there's a sign saying a 60 zone starts, about 2 km down the road. The worst part is, that the road is 2 lanes only, and full of hills and turns, making passing not only impossible, but practically suicidal.

And that was my route to work, before I got fired.

Slam brakes, or just steadily decrease your speed and watch them shit themselves in rage.

I just waved at her while flashing her a big, shit-eating grin.  I don't even have my license yet, I don't need to go causing wrecks just yet.  xD

Nah, you wouldn't be causing a wreck. You'd just be pissing some old broad off, and proving that just because they drive like an asshole doesn't give them the right to do what they want.

Oh, I don't believe I've ever mentioned the accident I got into in detail.  I shall do that now because of two reasons.  First, the guy who hit me definitely qualifies as a "dumb driver."  Second, it proves that driving laws in many areas are broken and idiotic.  Third, it proves that insurance companies are money-grubbing scumbags who take advantage of the fact that getting car insurance is the law.

So I was taking a break at work.  It was back when I was still a caffeine fiend, so I was picking up a couple of lattes (one for me, one for my coworker) from a Sheetz gas station (it's kind of like Wawa, for those of you that have those...made to order food and drinks, yadda yadda).  I was making a right turn out of the gas station as I was leaving when the vehicle that was in front of me suddenly started backing up.  I laid on the horn but, long story short, the moron slammed into me, making a huge mess of the front end (pushed the hood several inches out of whack, jammed the head light door down, destroyed several assorted plastic and metal pieces, ruined my bumper).  He was obviously going pretty fast when he hit me; it's amazing my airbags didn't deploy.  The police were called, took both of our statements, when the state patrolman dropped a bombshell:

I could have been cited for negligence because I was pulling out of a private lot.  Also, it is apparently perfectly legal to drive in reverse on a public road, on a highway no less.

Thankfully, the cop didn't cite either party because the person who hit me was clearly an idiot who wasn't paying attention to what the fuck he was doing, but it still pissed me the fuck off that he got off scot-free for driving like a reckless idiot.

Fast-forward to the insurance snafu.  The idiot tried to get my insurance company to pay for the damages to his stupid van.  My insurance company did its own investigation and apparently told him to fuck off.  His insurance company did their research and wanted to pay me for the damages to my car (funny how that works).  Given the age of the car (1995) they basically told me that they'd total it out.  I didn't plan to do that unless they gave me a very good figure.  Despite the body damage, the car still ran great, and I drove it for a couple of months after the accident.

I wound up getting a new car in August -- essentially a newer and slightly different version of what I had (I went from an automatic gold 1995 Saturn SC2 to red 2002 Saturn SC2 with a manual transmission) -- and kind of put it behind me.  Several months later they finally give me the final verdict: they considered me 40% at fault for not psychically knowing that their moronic customer was going to needlessly back up on a public road.  Never mind the witnesses that saw the entire event, the security camera footage, the logical implications of that sort of thing, the fact that the other driver was doing something blatantly reckless, or any of that.  It was partially my fault that somebody hit my car.  Needless to say, the implications of that are just horrid.  Basically, as a result, they took the totaled out cost of $2600 (which would have been a nice payment on my current car) and turned it into about $1100 (which certainly wouldn't buy a car that ran as good as the Satty).  Needless to say, I told them in polite terms to fuck off.

Meanwhile, my dad fixed up the old Saturn, putting almost no money into it, and made it look better than it did when I got it (it had some body damage when I first got it -- he fixed it up).  Looks nice (the passenger side headlight door is still a bit wobbly due to the accident damage, but that can be fixed with a few more repairs), drives nice.  What's the point in junking a car that's better than 90% of the shit that comes out now, and gets better gas mileage than most of the hybrids that are out now?

You guys know what the saddest part about the entire situation is?  I could have gotten the full money -- and probably additional money for bodily injury -- had I just punched it into the road.  If I were completely in the roadway when the idiot hit my front end it would have been completely his fault.

Now let's think about that for a second.  That basically means that if I pulled a dick move and punched it onto the road I would have been in a better situation than I was.  Granted, that probably would have destroyed my car, but I would have probably been able to pay for a good used car with cash with the settlement that I got when I sued his stupid ass.  That's a great thing to teach people; doing something stupid and reckless might just prevent you from having to pay for another person's reckless actions.

Do I even need to go on anymore?  Simply put, the laws are fucked up, the insurance companies try to fuck over their customers (and their customer's victims, in this case) as much as they legally can, and some people shouldn't have their license.

Wow, traffic laws there are fucking stupid. Thanks to the Highway Traffic Act, IIRC, backing up on a road is illegal. Not to mention even if it isn't, if you back into someone like a fucking idiot, the cops are going to say it's your fault, or at the very least no-fault it if you also did something wrong.

So I was riding my bike the other day and there was this woman in front of me.  I wanted to make a left turn at a 4 way stop sign so I stopped behind her in the left side of the lane and waited for her to go.  She didn't, and had no signal lights on, so I pulled up to the left side of her, signalled for a left turn (I saw that she was talking on her cell phone, UGH), stopped, and then turned.  She turned left right after I did and was practically riding my rear tire.  Then this self-righteous pedestrian ethnic lady criticized my biking skills after I finished the turn.  Was I doin it wrong?  Also, fuck cell phones. :(

Some what related:  I got off work earlier today (otherwise I would not be posting this) when I was walking across the parking lot and some cocktwat was flying through the parking lot, slammed on his brakes, rolled down his windows and told me "What couldn't see my car?"

I am glad that Ohio pedistrians have so much rights when it comes to the right-a-way of things ><

Interesting facts about Ontario driving laws:
We recently passed a law prohibiting the use of cell phones in car (there's a provision for headsets and such, I dunno the details on that).
Pedestrians ALWAYS have the right of way (as in, there is NO EXCUSE if you hit a pedestrian, period).

I can't think of anything else, but if I notice anything in what you guys post that's different, I'll point it out.

There are laws against using cell phones and headsets in cars here, but some fools don't care. :-[

The dude must be from Maryland or Florida or something.

You should have just stood there just to aggravate him.

What happens if the pedestrian does something incredibly stupid?

My uncle hit a kid once because the idiot suddenly ran into the street.  Would my uncle have been held responsible under Ontario law for the kid's fuck-up?

Oh, speaking of that, here's a fun thing about the idiotic seatbelt laws.  After that incident happened, the first question that the officer on the scene asked him was whether he was wearing his seatbelt.  Amazing.

Well, there are always provisions for people being fucking stupid. Most of the decisions of who's fault an accident is are done on a case by case basis. But the point being that if someone decides to say, cross an intersection as the light is changing to let people go the other way, and is in the middle or the road at the time it turns green, you are still required to let them cross before you can go. You do not have the right of way over a pedestrian in a situation like that.

The main point of that law is that think about it: pedestrians are not made of metal. They don't have crumple zones, airbags aren't standard, and they are severely under powered, and therefore unable to get out of the way. You'd hurt a person much more than another car.

But of course, if someone was an idiot and jumped in front of your car leaving you no time to stop (like, physically was inside the minimum stopping distance of your vehicle) or something else unexpected, stupid, or (especially) deliberate, they would be at fault, because they know better than to disobey the rules of the road.

Okay, good.  That was my only real concern.  The way you made it sound it was like hitting a pedestrian -- regardless of whose fault it is -- would put the blame on the driver.  I'm glad to hear that isn't the case.  If it was, it'd be like the whole "private lot" situation I had to deal with -- a blanket case that only aids the people who are too stupid to breathe.

Yeah, the general way things work here is that if you were genuinely being stupid, your likely to be blamed. If they can prove you did not obey the rules of the road, you are likely to be at fault, unless they can also prove that the other party also was not following the rules of the road, at which point things get messy. If were doing something like talking on your cell phone (illegal, and punishable by a $500 fine now), and the other person ran a red, or made an illegal turn or something, if they can prove you had ample time (had you not been distracted) to avoid the collision, you are pretty damn likely to be at fault.
