Title: Should we roll back?
Post by: Spectere on August 21, 2007, 02:45:03 PM
Okay, so I'm somewhat settled in at the new 'partment.  Still yarring Wi-Fi but that should change within a week.

Anyhoo, there are two options:

1) Stay with s.net v4.0 and start fresh (well, with what we've got).
2) Revert to s.net v3.0 and lose all posts made since the revert.

I have everything I need to roll back right now (I didn't before) so it's up to you guys; I don't really care which path we take.

oshiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

Well, it's kind of a toss-up for me... Perhaps we should make this a poll?

Stay with S.net v4.0.  It's much better than v3.0 in my opinion.

Whatever is easier for you I guess, I know Christan and Kuro would like it to switch back. I have been enjoying the cesspool section tho.

Yeah, I like it how it is now. I don't think we really lost anything major.

Yeah, stay with v4.0.  It's fine with me, and I see no sense in changing (again D:).

Yeah, the new forums are easier to navigate and just... better. I see no reason to switch again.

If spec bring back 3.0, it will be just the same without the stupid fucking retarded bullshit joomla thing.

This is a pretty major decision for the site so I'd rather see more discussion on the topic than just having people tick a selection.

Exactly.  Joomla was a separate entity altogether.  Even if we roll back to v3.0 it'll keep this interface.

Also, I forgot to mention this before -- if you don't like the purple you can change your theme in your profile.  I set it as default because I like how it came out. :)

Finally, bear in mind that even if I were to roll back v3.0, it would most likely follow a similar direction to v4.0 (namely, the rules would be v4.0's, some of the new/modified sections, like the Cesspool, would be added, etc).  Really, it would be more about bringing the old content back rather than dramatically changing what they have here.

What I probably should have asked was this: do you guys want all the old posts back?

Well, if there was a way you could click and choose which topics could come or stay, it would be great, but IIRC I don't think you can do that. IMO we've already started, and we have a foundation again, so let's keep this one. However, i would kinda like to see the old version up, for any posts or things I missed

The only thing I'd like to see back is my avatar, because I'm too lazy to rehost it :3

Otherwise, I really don't think there's that many topics besides the lame replies thread that we really woud need to archive. Unless I'm forgetting something obvious.

I guess i should post here:

I really don't care, I don't see a point in it, since there's not too much, though it would be nice to have Christian's "Photo a day" thread back in one piece.

agreed. I'd really like to see that topic. I had really wanted to see it when 3.0 went bai bai

Screw it, let's just roll back. We've made about a dozen topics on 4.0 so far, as opposed to the what, hundreds on 3.0? We'll probably just end up (if we haven't already) making the same topics over again.

Warn me first, so I can back up my topic in the cesspool.

Sadly, no.

Technically I could weed through the database and manually add the new posts but holy fuck that would be a lot of work. XD  The SQL dump being a 14MB text file doesn't make that task sound any more attractive.

Yeah, that's a good idea.  Not to mention easy to do, as you well know.

Yeah, just have S.net v3.0 as a read-only archive somewhere else on the site and keep v4.0 as we have right now.

keep everything we have as of current, current.

im fine with things as is.

hell, if you decide to wipe all topics each month, i honestly wouldn't mind.  less old junk to wade through, only current topics.

I think I'm just going to do that.  Thanks for the input, peeps. :)
