The entire list changing.

It went from like five entries to a million (slight exaggeration).

Wow, increase in spammers etc. lately?

Oh yeah.  It's gotten completely ridiculous.  In the past couple of days I think about four bots signed up, all of which came from Amsterdam and Russia (hence the extremely heavy blockage of entire class A and class B blocks -- I don't need web servers accessing my forums, after all).

There was one registration that was either registered by a malware infection or someone working out of their homes that appeared to be from a residential hostname (the *.corbina.ru block, to be specific).  Since I don't know anyone in Russia, and that area is a haven for spammers, I blocked it.  Blocking *.ru, *.nl, *.cn, and *.cz is kind of tempting at this point as well.  Harsh, yes, effective, very yes.

GOOD IDEA :D

.nl? Are there that many spammers down there?

A few here and there.  They pretty much come from all over the place...it's highly annoying.

DOBBLE POAST.

Updated again.  I put the number of hits per entry on there again just to show that this heavy-handed blocking is doing some good.  Most of the ones with zero hits are just a bit of insurance.  Nipping the spam issue at the bud, as it were.  Almost all of the addresses and ranges belong to web hosting companies and VPS/VDS hosts and thus have no reason to be signing up to a web forum.

And updated again.  I cleared out the filters that didn't get any hits (except for VPS/dedi servers for the reasons mentioned above...speaking of that, after I get some ticket responses back I need to add some more of those in as well).

Please note the number of registration attempts that were blocked for mail.ru e-mail addresses.  Shocking, eh?  That number literally won't stop climbing.

I added a few new triggers tonight.  The ones that are listed as being triggered zero times are the ones that I just added in response to some new "users."  The 117.24.0.0-117.31.255.255 range is a huge block of Chinese IPs and webair.com is a VPS.

It's funny that while I do not know russian, I do know cyrillic.

The title to that post is prostitutes novosibirsk, I got a kick out of it. These bots at least provide entertainment.
