Title: [EA Support] Express Replacement (a.k.a. WHAT THE EVERLOVING FUCK?!)
Post by: Spectere on August 08, 2008, 06:45:59 AM
So my Rock Band kick pedal finally bit the dust.  I went to RMA it and this is one of the replacement options that it gave me:

Quote
Express Replacement

With Express Replacement, we can send your replacement equipment via 3-5 day ground shipping, free of charge. The box will include a prepaid shipping label so you can return the original equipment in the same box.

To guarantee that the original equipment is returned, we will need to take your credit card number. YOUR CREDIT CARD WILL NOT BE CHARGED provided you return the original equipment within 28 days. If we do not receive the original equipment back from you within 28 days, your card will be charged a replacement and handling fee of $125.00.

IMPORTANT! A pre-authorization of $125.00 will appear on your card from Electronic Arts, verifying that funds are available by placing a "hold" on those funds for up to 30 days. If you use a credit card, this hold will affect your available credit. However, a pre-authorization to a debit card will hold ACTUAL FUNDS. If sufficient funds are not available on your debit card, this hold may result in overdraft fees.

$125?!  ARE YOU FOR REAL?!  Holy shit, I'm not replacing the whole fucking drum set.  Plus, WHY WOULD THEY...JUST...FUCK.  WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD PICK THIS?!  The best part is that they say that they verify that funds are available by placing a hold on those funds for up to 30 days.  FUCK THAT.  GWAH IT'S SO DUMB.

Needless to say, I didn't pick that option.  I'd much rather have them just UPS a box to me like Microsoft did, thank you very much.

Wow, now, I know you can (generally) trust large companies like that, but that is still insane. $125 is a lot of money to be playing with for that.

Shit Spectere if you threw in another $50 you can re-buy Rock Band for brand new.

Talk about a bunch of greedy ass tards.

Doesn't EA's sports games make them enough money?

That's rather shitty, in a rather shitty way. God forbid a mailing mishap happens and they lose your initial drum piece.

Also relevant.

Yeah, but when you put a hold on funds that money is essentially locked out in most cases.  Not to mention that there's no way that piece of shit is worth $125.  Also, they said that if I didn't return the pedal within 28 days that they would KEEP that $125.  I could buy a new drum set for less than that.

Shit Spectere if you threw in another $50 you can re-buy Rock Band for brand new.

My thoughts exactly.  I wish I could have seen the look on my face when I read that.

Well yeah, I was saying that even though they aren't likely just going to keep it unless you get fucked over by some jackass losing your stuff in shipping, even so, getting locked out of $125 for a plastic fucking pedal is ridiculous.

I know they aren't going to keep it...they'd get themselves into a heap of trouble like that.  The thing that's ridiculous is that the pedal isn't worth anywhere near that much, they hold a ridiculous amount of money that your average Rock Band player is not going to have lying around.  It would be one thing if they held that much for the entire drum kit (and even that would be a real stretch), but that's far too much money for any other instrument.

That said, it seems like they went ahead and did the express replacement anyway.  My pedal arrived in the "empty box" today.  I didn't give them any payment information, so I'm assuming that it's a policy to send it like that (in that case, why would they have given me a choice?) or somebody just fucked up.  I'm kind of aiming for the latter.

Also, their replacement system is just sloppy.  Microsoft, for the Xbox 360 RMA system, sends a box, some foam, a shipping label, and some nice printed instructions that clearly tell you what you need to do.  EA sends you a box with some invoices and a paper with shipping information.  No self-adhesive labels, no return instructions, nothing.  Lame.  I should just keep the broken pedal. :P
