I'd be down for a discord server too. It's been a while.

My apartment got broken into tonight while I was out drinking with some friends. Now I'm out a laptop and a few DVD's, although everything else is as it was. So that's pretty awesome.

One of my friends gave me his old PS2, so now I'm going through all of the PS1 games I still have. Right now I'm working on a 105% completion of Crash Bandicoot: Warped. Good game.

This Town Needs Guns. Straight math rock, awesome instrumentals.

Toe - CUTDVD

They're a Japanese post-rock band with an amazing drummer. The video's a 2-hour long show.

Ditto here. I used to show the first one to people who'd never seen Rifftrax before, but I got tired of watching it after the 5th time through. So now I use The Day After Tomorrow. That one's always fun.

I can't believe what is going on in this country...everything I wanted to not believe is coming true...I know this belongs to the youtube page but this honestly scares the shit out of me.

[ Invalid YouTube link ]

It does make me very very very angry.

I heard there was an addendum that explicitly says that it doesn't apply to citizens, unlike SOPA or PROTECT IP...

So I tried playing Stepmania today for the first time in like a year. I forgot how much of a bitch DTM's Fury of the Storm is.

Ahh. How would you go about making it IRL? Personally I'd try getting an FPGA and some stuff and design my processor as a soft core.

I'm not sure yet, but I know it's possible. Really I just like the idea of having a homemade computer. Also I'm starting to really get into computer hardware and I figure I'll eventually get to making a simple computer from essentially scratch.

Oh yeah, I've heard about instant wire. I haven't been using it much because I prefer to keep things compact and instantwire rigs don't tend to be. Also that many updates happening all at once would probably end up lagging and glitching, and to be honest if I'm going to put that much effort into making a computer with less than reliable components, I may as well make it in real life. Which I might end up doing.

Speaking of computers, mine's done!

I've been working on this for the last 5 hours, so I'll post more about it tomorrow. The RAM's empty right now, but I have a program written that I can load in manually. I'll post a more in-depth thread in Computing when I've made a video.

Annon, i just saw this on the minecraft foorums: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/651094-the-mctp-router-internet-in-minecraft/

The internet... In Minecraft.

What. The. Fuck.

Ooh, that's pretty sweet. I don't really know anything about the hardware side of networking, but I've been learning more and more about computer hardware, so it'll probably come up. Plus, I might eventually build a more capable second computer, so I'll probably end up making my own router anyways.

I've been using new repeaters. It's so, so much easier to make compact circuits with the new repeaters.

Also yesterday I hooked the CPU up to the RAM block in the picture, but for some reason the last row of registers were completely inaccessible, and there wasn't a quick fix for it. I was looking for an excuse to redesign my RAM anyways after finding a more efficient way to store bits, so now I'm working on that.

Here's 32 bytes per the new design. It has 16 addressable 16-bit registers. I'm going to stack 8 of these on top of each other and wire them together to make 128 addressable 16-bit registers, or 256 bytes of RAM.

Black on top is the data input. The data output is underneath. Green represents the register selector, and when Pink is unpowered it writes the data input to the selected register.

I occasionally see these pop up on r/Minecraft. Not many people make them, of course, but there have been a few, like these:

A lot of the stuff I used I got from the third guy's world save. It has some of his components lying around disconnected, and I managed to reverse-engineer a lot of them.

There's still some testing I need to do, and I'm working on connecting it to memory right now, but once I get it to a programmable state I'll post a video of it.

Actually, because of how it's layered, graph paper wouldn't be a huge help. Since I was in creative, there wasn't much of a distinction between designing and building. Essentially I'd work out the design for a component, build it 1 to 3 bits wide by hand with an expandable design, go into MCEdit, extend it to 16 bits, and go back to creative to test it until it worked. Once I had all the components, I went into MCEdit and put them near each other, then connected them by hand in creative.

I'm not entirely sure how fast it is, since I'm holding off designing the clock until the memory is implemented, but I'm guessing somewhere around 200-250 mHz as is.

And if you're curious, I built it using the specifications in this book: http://www.amazon.com/Elements-Computing-Systems-Building-Principles/dp/0262640686/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1316354352&sr=8-1

It's great, building a complex machine like this taught me how computer hardware translates binary code into actions, and I have to say this has been more fun and satisfying than every programming project I've ever done. Makes me wonder why I waited until now to check out computer engineering.
