Are you running windows [for OpenOffice]?

I don't know about Boobies, but I can't stand OOo on Windows or Linux.  I went so far as to run Microsoft Office under Wine (which really wasn't all that difficult, surprisingly) just because OOo felt so incredibly ass-backwards to me (like, WordPerfect backwards).

Many other components are built to accommodate them, and Gimp and Pidgin and likesuch are slightly unstable in windows.

I really haven't had any issues with either of those apps.  Pidgin is my standard messenger in XP because the official AIM client is complete ass.

On the flip side, you have jokes like the ATi video drivers and adobe flash player in linux.

ATI's video drivers are a joke in Windows, too.  You don't even want to know how many issues I have with them.

At least after I got the Linux ones running (read about my painful experience with it...and yes, the images in that post are broken, but you're not missing much) they ran all right.  Of course, I literally had to find the ONE VERSION in the portage tree that would work.  After I got that version working I quickly masked every other version so that I wouldn't have to deal with it ever again.

Yeah try that while you're playing Hell Revealed :U

If you play HR on Nightmare, you deserve every bit of frustration that it throws at you. :P  UV is bad enough (though still quite doable...I've beaten it before).

Also- Marvell, the networky company. Not only did windows XP not detect my network card, the fucking marvell website doesn't even have a windows driver listed for my wireless card.

Did Marvell actually make the card or did they just provide the chipset?  If it's the latter you'll have to hunt down the specific set for that card.

Also, the fact that I have to run windows in order to do several assignments in my own home. SPSS did not like wine, and... grargh. Death. Angry. H8.

SPSS can go choke on a dick.  I distinctly remember it being a royal bitch to roll out in images, too.

Sad when I have extreme malice toward it despite never actually using the program (well, for more than two minutes at a time, anyway).

UMX files are containers for tracked music (MOD, S3M, XM, and IT are supported)...nothing too special, really.  No need to convert modules to any other formats.  I believe UT2K3/2K4 allow you to use digital music in UMX (or possibly use some other method of doing it) but UT99 uses all tracked music (mostly ITs, with a couple of XMs and S3Ms).

I remember UMX files being rather simple to make (and to extract -- i.e. getting the module out of it) with UnrealED but I don't remember the exact steps; it's been a while.

SNES emulation doesn't run so well on it, in my experience.  The three games that I really want to play (Super Metroid, Super Mario RPG, and Earthbound) don't run at full framerate, SMRPG being the worst of the lot by far.  This is using what I believe is the latest version of SNES9x TTL.

It was announced before TF2 was.

TF2 was announced a long-ass time ago, if you want to be technical.  Development started with Quake 2 sometime around 1997-1998, then it moved to GoldSrc (HL1 engine -- derived from the Quake engine) when the developers were contracted to make it by Valve, then it became a standalone product, it got uberhyped in magazines, E3, etc, then nobody heard anything about it for a long time, then it was announced that it was going to come out after HL2, then it never happened, then they said it was going to come out with Episode 2 and Portal.

Wtf, you should've come to Toronto. I would've taken you to Pacific Mall or something hah.

I went with my parents so...yeah.  Did I even know you at the time?  That was a few years ago.

Did you go to the Marvel Arcade or the Great Canadian Midway?

I think it was the Midway...it was the place with two levels (not like two floors, but one area was like a meter higher than the other) -- used to have a DDR Extreme with awesome pads in one section and DDR 1st Mix USA with so-so pads near a couple of Crazy Taxi cabs.

Lessee, I had a hard time passing LoM back then so that had to have been something like 3.5 years ago.

Playing Doom on nightmare is nearly as retarded :(

It's not too too terrible, you just have to pretty much ignore the monsters.

Something that's somewhat peeling my potatoes at the moment is the fact that nobody either 1) has UT99 or 2) is willing to test out my DM beta map.  I should probably remake the thread for it here, I nuked it in frustration about 2 minutes before Spectere locked it XD

Yeah, uh, it would really help if you left the thread open for a while.  I didn't have time to check it out before and when I did have a chance to do it you deleted the link.  Now I'm not going to have a chance to look at it until after my trip so, uh...yeah.

Needs to get the full version of Quake 3 (and possibly Team Arena) first. :P
