I don't care for how they implemented dodging in UT99. At all. UT2k3/4 improved it considerably by allowing players to adjust the double-tap speed. It was far too easy to dodge off of a platform (in, say, CTF-LavaGiant) in the original so I just turned it off all the time (which put me at a disadvantage at times...oh well).
I didn't pub too much either. I wasn't bad (though being on dial-up and having to face LPB tranceiver whores got old REALLY fast...thank goodness they set a limit on that shit) but eh. I was more heavily into Action Quake 2 at the time, anyway.
Has anyone else ever played AQ2? It's freaking sweet. Way better than AHL (aka everybody freaking dive EVERYWHERE like a bunch of twats).

Yeah, both s.net v2.0 and arch0wl.com used SMF 1.0. It's amazing even how much v1.1 improved things; I can't wait for v2.0.

I like UT2K4 as well, but we're probably in the minority. About the only thing that I didn't like about 2K4 is the lack of assault maps because I'm an assault whore.
The way I look at it, UT2K3 and 2K4 play more like Quake games than UT99. UT99 plays more like Unreal, a bit slower paced (though unlike Unreal, the weapons in UT actually do damage
).

The message rules look pretty nifty and I rather like the changes that are being done to the member groups (like the phpBB-style group join system -- I was wondering when they'd add something like that).It looks like it's going to be another fine release of SMF. I should become a charter member...I've been using SMF long enough (since 1.0, bay-bee) that I really should give a little bit back to them. And besides, if I become a charter member we'll be able to see alpha versions and stuff like that before everyone else.

Not really...Q3A plays far different from UT. Also, Q3A demo? D: Needs moar full version.
UT's game types are also far more interesting and the ability to use mutators to extend the game in small ways is a breath of fresh air.

It's commercial but the latest version has no copy protection to speak of. Unlike Q3A retail, CD key protection isn't employed.
