Good idea, but I thought that was only s.net ver. 2.0. Also I would like to continue to complain about Vladgd leaving.

s.net v1.0 was the phpBB-"powered" forum
s.net v2.0 was the SMF-powered forum
s.net v3.0 was Joomla+SMF
s.net v4.0 is this

It's going to stay at v4.0 for a loooooooooooong time, I promise.

Edit: Also, moving today.  If there's an unsecure access point in my 'partment I'll be back on later. :>

I didn't have the SQL dump when I started setting it up.  ~400MB of data is a lot of stuff to download and, like I said, I wanted to get the site up before I left.

Yeah really, kind of lame. I'm sure spacetur has a reason for the season.

Yeah...because I was in a royal hurry to do this before I left (like I said in the news post).

Looking back, I could have feasibly gotten everything in place, but considering I had to try to work on the site while loading cars, taking stuff apart, doing more packing, and hanging out with my awesome friends one last time I didn't want to risk keeping the site down too long.

Problem now is that I'm not entirely sure what the best thing to do with the backups I have is. :x  I might just put them up as a read-only "s.net v3.0" and let you guys grab stuff from there...we'll see.

I talked with Ian on the phone last night long enough to discover that my phone cuts off a call after 4 hours.

Haha, yeah, I think that's some sort of weird T-Mobile thing...it's happened to me before.  No biggie. :>

mother fucker, you should have told me you were going to switch to 1and1.... I could have gotten a year of webhosting paid if I had referred you. Arghh.... <3 jk

Yeah, sorry about that. :<  They only told me about referral stuff after I signed up, haha.

Sweet, so when does v5 come out? :P

Knowing me, tomorrow.

Also, why wasnt there warning, or a backup of the SMF forum?

I'm really disappointed that I tried checking the forums again, only to find everything erased (for a second time).

Whelp, there was a warning but since I was on an extremely limited time frame (like I said, had to get everything done before I moved to a place with no Interwebz) I had to get everything done as fast as possible.

I also do have a backup of the old forums sitting here.  I took a complete site backup before I shut da shit down.

Oh yeah, about the usernames.  I'm just not used to getting, um...serial numbers for my database names and such. XD  With Interweb they gave names with a spectere_ prefix, so making a database called "smf" would give me "spectere_smf", not "db839201839".  No biggie, just a little niggle.

my shit's fallen and it can't get up

sir please fix :[

Well, yeah...we kind of changed hosts. :P

And it's back online now.

also i can't access my webspace at all with dumbftp.  weird

Well, yeah...we kind of changed hosts. :P

I sent you your new logon stuff.

/ [GAME] s.net Story Time!
« on: August 18, 2007, 02:34:42 PM »
LET'S GET THIS SHIT STARTED AGAIN, YO.

Here's the slightly-revised rules.  We're going to write a story.  When you make a new post, copy the current paragraph that we're working on (not the entire story, to save space) and add between one and five words to it, in bold.  Avoid using BBCode outside of bolding your addition because it will get lost during the copy-and-paste.  If you want to start a new paragraph, state your intentions clearly.

I'll periodically update the main post with the current story and delete the other posts in the thread to keep it clean.

And now, let's begin...

-----

One day, Kuroneko was milking a minature goat, when suddenly he experienced a slight "arousing" in his trousers. He looked over his shoulder, and much to his surprise a pack of mutant cantaloupes charged him at full speed. Grabbing his crotch and saying, "NOT THE JEWELS PLZ," the cantaloupes decided they would rather play a game of pocket pool, so they slid their cantaloupe-hands into his pants and pulled out the completely innocuous notebook within.  By this point, Kuroneko had written inside the notebook about Don Lafontain's March 1995 edition of by passer weekly. This made his anus begin to release radio waves which made everyone's electronic equipment fuckin' explode!

Due to explosions, Zakamiro had to rope off his balls, and urinate all over upper middle class white people because they had the nerve to talk to him. He was absolutely amazing at flipping McDonald's burgers, and, like the French say, don't mess with texas.  Accidentally dropping a burger patty, he screamed while taking a shit and it missed the toilet. Spectere FARFULGA'd up his one change to Vlad's upper torso. So he decided to change his lower jaw to resemble a monkey on acid and then drank a bottle of Robo. Damn that DXM acronym, always raping me hind parts. Rippin out sewer grates, Arch0wl emerged with season's greetings from the depths of satan's asshole. In which, Bobbias was singing "Crawling" while

[[ When there's a new paragraph only copy the second paragraph to keep the thread cleaner. thxu :D ]]

[[ Also, stickied because it keeps getting forced down when I clean the thread out. :( ]]

[[ And...recovered the first paragraph :D ]]

News / s.net v4.0 is now open for business!
« on: August 18, 2007, 02:26:06 PM »
The move between hosts seems to have gone well!  s.net is now happily running on 1&1's servers.

In case anyone missed it (which is very likely), I moved the site because Interweb's service basically went to shit in the last year.  More importantly, my most recent server payment did not go through and my e-mail regarding that went unanswered.  Rather than risking the site getting shut down (since I doubt they'd give me hosting for free forever) I decided to pack up and move everything.

I chose 1&1 because of Zakamiro's good experiences with it and they seem to be pretty good so far.  My only real gripes is that they give you some really ass-backwards usernames and such (unlike the comparatively elegant ones, such as username@spectere.net that Interweb gives).  Also, some of the processes, like creating an SQL database or changing passwords, are not instantaneous like they were on Interweb.  Fortunately, that doesn't matter much after the initial setup, so we're good.

Everything's in a bit of a confused state right now.  I dumped all of the files to my computer and am now trying to weed everything out and get it all back in place.  I'm currently in the process of getting Kuroneko's subdomain back online.  My goal is to get that, and the forums, completely operational before I leave for Maryland, and so far it seems to be going well.

And uh, yeah...I guess that's all for now.  Toodles!

Rules / Rules v1.0

Last updated: August 18, 2007

1) Have respect towards your fellow man.  Avoid flaming others or participating in flame wars.  Violators will be shot on sight.  Survivors will be shot again.

2) Don't be a postwhore.  If your point can be summed up in a few words odds are it isn't necessary.  Making a short, humorous post (or doing a funny quote edit to another post) is fine in moderation, but "quoting for truth" and similar practices will result in your post getting deleted.

3) Keep it legal.  Any content that is illegal in the good ol' US of A is strictly forbidden here.

4) Keep it clean.  Posting or linking to pornography is strictly forbidden.  Linking to pictures with tasteful nudity (i.e. frontal nudity, etc) is fine as long as the link is clearly labeled as being unsafe for work.  Directly posting images that are not safe for work or school is forbidden and will result in your post being edited.

5) Keep it small.  Please refrain from posting huge images (i.e. over 800x600) inline.  While it won't break the horizontal layout of SMF it could potentially be annoying to other forum members.  If you want to post a large image, link to it.

That is all!  Happy foruming, drive safe, don't worry, be happy.
