Well, I can't rightfully say I'm extremely happy, but I have quit my job, and am about to start going back to college for computer programming. Still havent worked out money, but I couldn't stand working in that shithole any longer.

It's a good thing I took my last week off. The 27th was my last day, but I took that week off since I had (finally) gotten my extra week for being there 5 years (only took me 6 years thanks to starting out at a bad time of the year.) Originally I wasn't sure what I was gonna do with it, but a co-worker gave me a heads up that he had a day off and they were probably gonna ask me to fill in for him (in my own home department at that.) I was pissed, because it should be the supervisor's job to let me know. Technically that's a shift change, because my start and end times differ from when I was stuck working in the press room. So when I confronted the SV about why I was only getting a heads up from my co-worker (they obviously knew he'd be off for a while), the SV just gave me a "well, I didn't see it anywhere in my emails", and fucked off. After that I decided I needed to move my last day ahead and took the final week off. Well on the 20th, I found out that they were laying a bunch of people off, and most of those who were kept on (which would have included me) were being sent to the other plant to rack parts for plating. I had vowed that if they tried to send me there I'd walk out. So by taking that week off I saved myself the trouble of telling them to go fuck themselves and that I wouldn't be racking their fucking parts ever again.

So, I'm happy to be out of there, but I'm still kinda anxious about the whole situation, since like I said, I haven't completely figured out finances yet. I'm likely gonna end up taking OSAP student loans.

And I'm done my job. Well, my last official day is the 27th, but I took this week off with my last week of holidays. Now I just gotta figure out money. I'm relatively debt free (car loan, but that's it), haven't taken any OSAP, and should be able to apply for various grants and whatnot. And at some point I'm supposed to get 10k in inheritance from my grandmother, but I have absolutely no clue when that's gonna show up. So I'm not fucked, but I still don't have a complete solution. Still, I'm happy to be out of that hellhole.

Well at least you got a laptop again. Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me one bit of it's a completely different one. Hell, Nintendo doesn't fix your joycons, they just replace them. And they won't even make sure you get the same color, and special edition ones are out of the question. It's far easier to just send new ones out rather than have people actually repair shit.

Jesus, that is a monster system. I recall a friend had a 12 inch floor sub on a 1kw (when bridged) amp, and even that was loud enough to crack the rear windshield when he decided to make a point to a couple other kids who thought their system was loud. It was a very imprecision setup since the sun took up 2 of the 3 rest seats, but it was fun to sit beside.

I once had a similarly dumb tech support experience. 45 minutes of doing the exact same troubleshooting steps we already did later and level 1 finally sent me to a level 2 tech. Within minutes they confirmed the problem and we're trying to solve it... Sucks to go through the 45 minutes of bullshit every time, but there's no way to avoid bullshit when you've gotta call in anywhere.

That's really interesting. The space partitioning technique is pretty common, but only considering an object's origin region for hitscan detection while allowing for objects large enough compared to a region for that to become a problem sounds more like an oversight than an intentional optimization. Doom (the original engine anyway) spends something like 90% of its time pushing pixels rather than doing anything else, so adding a small additional bit of detection code to handle that properly would probably not cause much in the way of performance loss in most cases. The spider mastermind would be one case where that would add quite a bit more work though.

I wonder how hard it would be to actually test that theory...

I am both envious, and relieved I'm not the one dealing with that issue. On the one hand, you got more gaming PC than I have in my full tower for like half the price (well ok, not exactly, I'm not counting exchange rates in that). But yeah, that crack would have driven me mad.

Just read about the vertical level + melee stuff in btsx and damn, that is mean. I forgot about modern doom engines often not being true to vanilla, and making height more "sensible", but to me Doom always means it has those height related quirks.

Yeah the remote debugging struck me as an excellent feature. Haven't really been putting time into that specific project, but that's because it's intended to be something my girlfriend and I work on together. I've got a million things on the go tbh and not enough time, energy, or motivation to stick with anything for very long -.- Oh the joys of ADHD.

So I'm currently messing about with haskell. Been doing a lot of reading about category theory, type theory, how different type systems work, and other stuff. Playing around with writing an interpreter using GADTs and some other features to leverage haskell's type system to do type checking for me. Also looking at incorporating some code from the haskell LLVM tutorial, which would let me create a JIT compiler for my embedded DSL. If I get that set up and working it wouldn't be much trouble to add my own lexer/parser to allow me to create my own syntax that doesn't need to conform to haskell's syntax (especially since the LLVM tutorial addresses that side of things, and there are other tutorials for parsing and lexing in haskell out there as well).

I'm actually also in the process of quitting my job and going back to college for programming too....

As for things that are actually lame as shit, my sleep has been absolutely fucked lately. There are days where I might lie in bed for 6 hours before finally falling asleep. That does not exactly help with the whole time or energy to do shit side of things either.

Well, at the very least, I have successfully opened my Grados, resoldered a cable, and put them back together without wrecking them. The hot glue still manages to keep the cup in one piece even after separating them with some heat.

But I really do need to recable my pair. One cable is held together with duct tape and a zip tie holding it in the cup. The outer sheath has been split, and there's a bad connection somewhere because my ear on that side has a tendency to stop working now and then -.-... and it's been like that for several years now lol.

Yeah I can "read" cryllic like that too, along with Korean and Japanese. The only one I actually know some words in is Japanese though.
