Meh, good to know that the AI in Gran Turismo 5 is still as fucking terrible as it always was.  I love having to restart races because I get pushed off of the course.

What's worse is that GT5 introduces some events (I think GT4 had them as well, just not as many of them) where you can get disqualified for coming into contact with the AI drivers.  I say "coming into contact with" because they can slam into you and you'll be the one that gets fucked.  It's infuriating.

The worst part is that the only way to get enough money to buy some of the cars that you need to get through the beginning races is to do some of those awful special events.  Ugh.  Just let me fucking race and quit with the esoteric bullshit, already!

Let's not even get into the abortion that is the painting system.  You have to literally buy cars of a particular color, get a "paint item" from them, and use those "paint items" to color your other cars.  What the shit?  That would be like if buying a red card earned you a license to buy red paint.  If you wanted to paint another car red, you'd have to trade in the license for the paint.  It doesn't make any sense and is stupid as hell.

I think I'm just going to stick with a wait and see attitude on GT from now on.  As far as I'm concerned Forza Motorsport is still a must-buy game, though.  With each release of Forza it's taken strides to cut the bullshit and just let the player race, rewarding players for willingly increasing the difficulty.  I can deal with the license exams in Gran Turismo (I don't think they should be required, but I like that they're there), but most of the other random bullshit -- like a horrendously slow and painful race with 12 Volkswagen Buses (I'm not shitting you) -- just needs to die.

Oh, almost forgot.  GT5 ripped off the driver leveling system of Forza and made it shitty.  Instead of unlocking races, it unlocks the privilege of buying certain cars.  It's like the arbitrary car unlock system in Forza 1 and 2, only worse because it will quite literally throw cars in your face that you cannot get.  I don't remember which car I was vying for, but on my first trip into the used car dealership at the start of the game I saw a car that I really wanted to start out with.  I was even able to afford it.  Oops, too bad, I needed to be driver level 2 and I was driver level 0.  What's worse is that I had to buy a car to even get into the license exams, so I couldn't just go in, take a few exams, hit level 2, and hope that the car was still listed.  Nope, I got fucked out of it.

Don't even get me started on the load times.  For a game that installs 6.5GB to the hard drive, the load times are as slow as Forza 3, which loads off of the disc for the most part.  Ugh.

I really want to like it but it clearly hates me.

1. The AI is there to be an obstacle. It's a driving simulator, not a racing simulator. The entire point of the game is to see if you can overcome the challenge of correctly passing people who hold to correct driving lines for the most part. Complaining that you can't pass them without running into them means you're bad. Get better at it.

2. The events where you can be disqualified for hitting them is the same. If they run into you, you don't get DQ'd. This is guaranteed as I've spun out and been T-boned by one of them and gotten no DQ. You have to be the one to hit them and it has to be enough to do damage to them. This is just like in real racing where doing so gets you DQ'd and kicked off the track.

Also Forza is a terrible game and always has been.

Why is it that the PS3 seems to be the only system that isn't a complete sloth when it comes to using external storage?  I just copied 2GB of MP3s over for use in Gran Turismo 5 (mostly because I didn't feel like setting up a uPNP media server on my PC, if it'll even access that in-game) and was surprised when it copied everything extremely quickly, like PC speed.

I suppose you could ask just the opposite question -- why on earth does the 360 and the Wii make such a huge goddamn deal over transferring data?  Especially the Wii.  Waiting for that overglorified GameCube to transfer data from internal storage to SD is agonizing.

Agreed.

Post moar, mutha truckers!

Try doing system transfers from one PS3 to another. It can take literally 10 hours. Putting something from an outside source to a system goes fast (even on the Wii for the few games that allow it) but between two systems or just a system item like a save is slow on everything out there.

From what I remember, the Wii also has a ton of built-in piracy checks on things you transfer to SD card/from SD card to system. Also why some games just aren't allowed to transfer save at all. I've never really seen that come up as a problem though since I can't say I've ever felt a need to bring a Wii save with me anywhere.

Try downloading a game from Wii Shop directly to SD card. It barely takes any longer than straight to system memory.

You should also really try to lay off the hyperbole.

That's a pretty poor reason for region coding, and it's hardly "perfectly understandable."  You've proven my point yourself by indicating that the borders for region 1 Blu-ray discs include Japan and the US.  If it were about licensing, each country would be its own "region," especially distinct markets like the Japanese and American markets.  Considering Asia itself is divided into two regions, I can't help but believe that Japan's inclusion in region 1 is more of a fan service to importers than anything else, seeing as licensing (which seems to be your entire argument if you ignore the unnecessary blanket attacks) isn't magically shared between our countries.

Licensing affects why, say, a compact disc is sold in one country but not another.  Region locking is little more of an anti-consumer way of "enforcing" such a thing.  If I were in Europe for a month and my PS3 decided to roll over and die, none of my legitimately purchased, region-locked US titles would play on my European device.  When I got back to the US, none of the region-locked European games that I purchased would play on a US device.  How is that fair?  Am I "selfish" for expecting a PS3 game to play on a PS3, regardless of where it was purchased?

Not to be mean or anything man but you really have no idea what you're talking about on this one.

And honestly, yeah, it IS pretty selfish to expect every game to play on every system everywhere no matter where you are. It ignores a very large side of the business.

No, it wouldn't matter if Sony wanted to region lock PS3 games in the first place. Region 1 bluray discs include both Japan and the US.

Otherwise yeah, it's a matter of licensing problems and that's perfectly understandable. I personally never understood why everyone just goes, "It's retarded!" without ever actually thinking past themselves. Then again, gamers are largely some of the most selfish people ever.

Skate 3 is better than the entire Tony Hawk series.

Front Mission Evolved is an insult to the rest of the series.

Anything within a couple miles of me is considered extremely close because anything outside of that range is the freeway and if I have to take that to get somewhere, I usually don't really care how long it'll take. I drive 25 minutes to work so I can work for four hours driving and then I unload trucks and then drive 25 minutes home. I basically drive for 5 hours every day.

Also, I continue to make an ass of myself by blurting out stuff, though it seems to work in my favor. I went over to Best Buy to go see if they had any copies of Monster Hunter 3 because they had a coupon for $20 off and I have a ton of reward zone coupons, but they didn't seem to have any and then Asha came up behind me and asked if I needed any help and I just sort of glanced over, started saying the usual, "No, I'm just browsing" and got cut off at "Nuh" when I noticed it was her and then blurted out, "Wow you look really nice." But then some douchebag that also worked there came over and was all, "HEY I GOT THIS THEY WANT YOU TO HELP OVER IN CELLPHONES" and then I just shook my head and said I was browsing and went on with my business. Damn you Best Buy, just let me embarrass myself and let me ask out someone in peace. Maybe some day.

So now Bee, the girl who works at Oishi, the very nearby Japanese take-out place (REALLY nearby, like one mile from here, if that) not only knows me by name when I walk in the door but when she gave me my food she just said, "See you next week!" I didn't even realize I was going there every Saturday but apparently I do and so I guess I will just keep doing that because their food is really really good, filling and inexpensive (like $7 and they give you at least a pound and a half of food). And she's hot. She doesn't normally wear glasses but she had these black thicker-rimmed glasses that looked really good.

Then later today I go with my friends to Buffalo Wild Wings for UFC night like we always do and we got a different waitress than normal since they had to seat us in a different area and the waitress was super hot and had this flower in her hair that looked really really pretty and I just blurted out that it looked really good without any real intention of hitting on her further than that and she ended up blushing and I just stammered like an idiot for a few seconds until I just stopped talking.

Definitely a good Saturday though.

Yeah, the Yakuza series has always been only for Sony stuff (PS2/PS3/PSP). The games all have really nice recaps of the last games in the series too so you can catch up on things really easily.

And yeah Castlevania's multiplatform. I had heard that the 360 version was 2 discs while the PS3 version was 1 disc but I don't know if that's true or what. I'm told there's no real difference between the two versions though.

Finished the Halo: Reach campaign, didn't really feel anything for it. It's pretty much just a way of making you familiar with what the multiplayer maps are, which would work if literally everyone who played Halo didn't play multiplayer before even trying the campaign. It was pretty bland overall though. Hunters are annoying.

Also finished Yakuza 3, which was absolutely fantastic. It also has a retarded amount of stuff to it. I beat the story in 17 hours, 17 minutes. And the completion percentage shows 12.85%. 12.85%. Good lord. Really good story.

Now I'm trying to figure out what to play next while I wait around for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and I guess the third Professor Layton game works pretty well but when I've got a 50" TV available I kind of want to use it yeah? Trying to figure out if I want to buy Wipeout HD Fury or just play Nier.

They ruined Dante completely and utterly. He's hideous and the west once again proves that it knows absolutely nothing when it comes to character design.

Wow, I actually won a round of Elite Slayer. Pretty handily too. The hologram is really really awesome and gets you many cheap kills. Especially when you grab the sword. And then you sit in a small room and sit in one corner. And then send the hologram to run to the other side of the room so anyone walking by can see it go running. And then you just walk up behind them and stab them.

Halo Reach is really fun online unless you get Team Slayer DMRs or SWAT, at which point the game becomes terrible. Most boring fights ever and you just die from instant headshots every 10 seconds.
