GiB -> GB and GB -> GiB isn't a big deal. I mean, if you ask anyone if they care, they more than likely won't know. But from a technical standpoint, it might be. But, from ANOTHER technical standpoint, a main goal of modern computing is to make things as simple as possible for the user. And if they don't know the difference between GiB and GB, then mission accomplished. It's seamless enough.

My point is this: If it's not (too) noticeable for most end-users, it shouldn't be worried about. It's bad enough there's people out there still trying to check their email and edit images with MS Paint. [THINK WEBTV/MSNTV.] Seriously, there's no need to "TURN ON THA FUCKIN' REVOLUTION MACHINE, WE GOT SOME USERS AND BYTES TO SAVE FROM THE OPPRESSED WORLD."

Yeah, it is pretty stupid Macroshaft isn't following the newer conventions and uniformity, but the storage capacity is still the same, it just looks different to the user. Seeing as how Vista was just released (and to the best of my knowledge hasn't changed this since XP), it may be a matter of years until they finally incorporate it into the OS. (I doubt they'd put it into a Service Pack... Imagine the users calling them and saying, "WHAT THE HELL WHY ARE ALL OF MY FILES BIGGER?!"--Not to mention possible software incompatibilities. (which means even more incompatibility for Vista))

Since it seems to be only MS that doesn't want to "get with the program" (no pun intended), there should be no real cause for concern. Perhaps they just kept binary for the sake of matching previous windows'. It's not like this hasn't come up to the programmers, everyone there knows about it, and choose to do it. They have a reason for it.

Perhaps there will be a future fix for it, perhaps there won't. Oh well. There's plenty of better shit to bitch at microsoft for, let's focus on those. This issue just isn't important enough for major concern IMO, and I've heard enough.

We pressed on. Shortly afterwards, we arrived in a poisonous, post-apocalyptic hell - a sprawling, toxic dumping ground stretching for a mile or two. This is the final resting place for your old TV, computer or mobile phone.

Okay, now why is everyone blaming Microsoft?  The entire software industry has been slow to switch from the old standard to the new standard.  It has nothing to do with Microsoft.  The developers of OS X's Finder, KDE's Konqueror, and numerous other file managers are equally at fault.

The old method is still a valid way to do it, it's just not a very good one.

I was gonna mention something about OSX and Linux still using the old standard.
This is going in my sig. :)

Not everything in Linux uses the old standard.  fdisk, for example, uses the new convention (i.e. it picks up my 400GB hard drive as being 400GB, not 372 "GB"), and I believe GNU coreutils also does.  I think GNOME has been changed to match the new prefixes (that or it properly uses the binary prefixes now) and I think KDE is set to do that for 4.0.

That's the thing, though, there are a lot of programs that need to be converted over.  You can't lay blame solely on Microsoft, or Apple, or anyone.

There might be a school shooting where I go tomorrow.

Most likely fake, but you never know...there was some recent drama about a sophomore shot by a freshman and killed, but that was off campus...and it is homecoming week, so craziness ensues.

On the other hand if I never post here again, you would know what happened.

Middle school band night is tonight, which is when the band performs at a varsity football game and the 8th graders who are in band at nearby middle schools come to watch us perform/meet us. It's a big 'recruitment' thing.

They're all either shy or annoying. Should be a fun night.

You should start hitting on one of them. Seems like it would be fun.
