SO lots of fun at work today.  I got to climb in between shelves and behind displays to get items that fell between the back area of the displays where dust greeted me like an old friend

Had alumni band rehearsal tonight.  Was pretty fun.  Some parts were a bit confusing though, like having to learn new versions of the school's fight song and the Star Spangled Banner.  I guess since they got rid of the clarinet section in the showband after I graduated, they thought it was best to play different versions.

It wouldn't be so confusing if we still didn't have to play the old version of the fight song during our OWN show though.  We're playing the new one with the high school band during their pre-game show for the festival, and then we're on with our own.  In which case we'll be playing the OLD version.

At least I don't have to try to remember my old version of the Star Spangled Banner on top of the new one.  The clarinet part we had was so weird.  And now I just get to play the trumpet or tenor sax part.


I'm also incredibly amused and pleased by the fact that I was able to memorize all of the show's music in about fifteen minutes.  To be fair, one song is really easy and repetitive.  But still, it was nice that to see that I'm really not out of practice with memorization. 


The only part that's upsetting me at all is the fact that it doesn't seem as if we're going to be doing any dancing.  Yeah, some of us are kind of old (We've got some people that graduated in the early '70s') but cripes.  We've always been a showband.  We're supposed to dance.    We danced in the last alumni show!  Albeit not very well as we only had two days of practice to work with, but this time we've got more!  *grrface*

I'm playing the timpanis this year for one of my school's marching band's songs.  Once you've memorised like eight basic patterns, the initial tunings for the four movements, and the timing, it's really easy.

I still find timpani to be a really funny instrument to be involved with a marching band.  But my band was always kind of weird, it seemed.  No pit, no drum major.  lol

thinking about getting that WoW clone with the lineage 2 skin when it comes out for something to do till some vidya comes out late october.

by that i mean aion.  why? well i have an irl friend who is interested, and if he doesn't get it, i have my guild who is also interested.  so i have bros to play with either way.

thinking about making a loli cleric.  or whichever class gets the skimpiest armor, y'know, like half of the playerbase is going to do.

Well, I took music class in school (not all the way through). I played flute. Fun instrument, once you learn the fingerings (which are complicated as fuck when you first see them, then easy as shit to remember), and learn that if a note isn't sounding right, you can rotate the flute a bit to get it to play right.

I swear that the reason 95% can't get a proper sound out of it is because they don't know about rotating it. (actually, as you climb up the scale, IIRC, you slowly rotate it away from you, and down the scale you rotate it towards you).

What stopped me was that I had taken the grade 9 music class late (as in, there's a separate class for grade 10s taking it late, and I was in grade 11 when I took that class). Well, I ended up dropping one of my classes that semester and joining the actual grade 9 class at the same time (so I essentially had 2 music classes covering the same thing... No need to practice at home ).

But I stopped after that.
