The Ruby Dragon in FF8. Specifically its Breath attack. It's fine if you give a powerful enemy a one-hit kill, so long as it's used as either a counterattack or just a rare move. It's not fine if that move hits the entire party and makes a game over no matter what.

Code: [Select]
f(u,c,k,_,y,e,a,h)
{return u*u*u*u-u*u*u*_+u*u*y-u*e+a?k?f(u+1,c,k-1,_,y,e,a,h):0:putchar(u-c+h)==f(u+1,u,k-1,_,y,e,a,h);}
main(){return f(0,0,34,84,2423,26628,72864,98)<putchar(32)>f(0,0,40,125,5809,118995,906750,96)==~putchar(10);}

This times a very large number to the power of infinity.  I hate when games punish you for playing them.

That kind of like how Omega Weapon casts lv.5 Death on all party members right off the bat.  Since most people who face them probably have their party up to lv.100, it's nothing more than a cheap way to get people to waste a status defense junction on Death, not to mention blowing all the time to get 100 Deaths so that they don't even have a chance of getting killed by it.

At least there's a way to defend against that, though.  If I remember correctly you don't have that luxury with Ruby Dragon's attack (correct or not-so-correct? I haven't played FF8 past disc 1 in a long time).

Yeah, you actually aren't supposed to ever level in FF8 because junctioning strong magic gives you the same strength as being at L100, but since enemies stay on your level, their stats are much much lower.

Basically, they added draw because they eliminated leveling. And even then, GF abilities let you completely bypass doing either of them anyway.

FF8 really is messed up in a lot of ways. :s  I dunno, I still have fun with it despite its numerous flaws.  At least drawing to 100 doesn't take as long as mastering materia.  Ugh.

As far as I know, the only way to defend against that attack is by preemptively using a Hero, Holy War, or Invincible Moon (one of Rinoa's limit breaks), making at least one character on your team invincible.

As for the Lv5 Death thing, I usually have 100 Deaths on each of my party members, and if they have St.Atk-J, I junction it to their status attack. You'd be surprised how many bosses are vulnerable to Death.

Not at all.

I always made a note to keep it off of St.Atk-J because it made half of the boss fights ludicrously easy. :x

Locating driver updates for laptops is absolute hell......

I'm trying to see if there is an update for my drivers for my video card.

Unfortunately, the ATI website is useless (the Radeon mobile 3100 isn't even on their list at all) and I can't seem to locate the right specific model on the Toshiba website, because apparently knowing that it's a Satellite Pro L300D means nothing, since there are 6 different sub-models of that.

And clicking the button that's supposed to expand your search to all applicable models in the Satellite Pro series and limiting it to graphics drivers for Vista brings up nothing.

Arg.
This is going in my sig. :)

It's really hard to find drivers for Toshiba laptops.  My dad and I acquired one with a broken screen and have been using it as a media center and, well, it's proven to be a challenge.

Also, most laptops can't support drivers on ATI's site due to some bizarre thing about each laptop having their own tweaked hardware.  I don't really buy that, since the Omega drivers work and the Linux drivers don't have such arbitrary restrictions, but that's what ATI's claimed for years.

Well damn. I guess that's the first count against Toshiba... I haven't really had many other issues with this laptop, other than the time I accidentally hard-reset in the middle of windows updates being installed, resulting in me having to chkdsk my drive, and finding 4k of bad sectors.

Yeah, Toshiba makes some really solid hardware but it seems like they have way too many submodels for anyone's good.

From what my dad said after his driver hunting experience, they don't even provide a good way of pulling up your system specs (Dell's service tag system is AWESOME).
