Finally added a favicon...
« on: September 14, 2010, 08:31:35 PM »
...for totally selfish reasons (but hey, it's my site, so F UR A if you don't like it <3).  I figured that I came here often enough to pin the icon to Chrome.

But anyway, it's pretty obvious that I just shat it out, so if anyone can design anything better (shouldn't take much!) post a linky to a 16x16 transparent PNG here and I'll throw it on the site.

16x16 transparent PNG

Terrible standard :/ They should really allow something bigger, even if it gets scaled down. I mean, it's not 1995. At least they support transparency, but IIRC that actually used to cause glitches in drawing them on some browsers (Old IE?). Plus, allowing larger Favicons would make them a lot more useful, and anything that only wanted a 16x16 image could always just scale them down.
This is going in my sig. :)

Most browsers do allow 32x32...except for Chrome, that is.  Not really sure why (that said, I think Chrome only chokes on 32x32 ICOs, but still). :/

Personally, I think that 16x16 icons are far more practical in terms of web pages.  I'd go nuts if bookmarks were displayed with 32x32 icons on my toolbar or whatever.  Of course, having a large tab bar that resembles the Windows 7 taskbar would be pretty damn cool.

Either way, I think that if we places fewer arbitrary limits on favicons, (32x32 is still fairly small) it might allow for interesting ways of using them, such as innovative ways of dealing with bookmarks, or different ways to deal with tabs and such in other browsers.

It's not like it's really a big issue, but I think it would be cool to see some bookmark manager that uses favicons heavily.

Nice, just noticed. Glad we finally have one.

If you'd like, I wouldn't mind making one. I still have that .png or whatever of the s.net banner that I made like 3 years ago, the one we wanted to turn into a script or something. You know, head scratching Ian.

Might make one or two.

The only problem with the head-scratching Ian pic is that it doesn't translate well to a 16x16 image.  I think flypie tried that back in the day and it didn't look too hot.

I think what the site needs is an actual logo.  Some sort of stylized text like all of those cool Web 2.0 thingers. 8)
