Yeah, their first Album was awesome.

Also I've been somewhat getting into Dream Theater and this song is retarded catchy.

Yeah, their first Album was awesome.

Indeed.  I pretty much love them up until Conspiracy of One.  That was when they started pulling the sappy pop thing.  They still have a few edgy songs on each album, but the number seems to be dropping with each release, sadly.

Nope, there's a new one, it just came out. It's really goddamn awesome, it reminds me more of their first album than Nothing Lasts, though.

I'm gonna need to check that out sometime.

I've been listening to TONS of jazzy hip-hop (and regular hip-hop) lately. It's such a shame that jazzy hip-hop is so under the radar... There are some amazing people making that sort of stuff, but it's so hard to find.

If anyone's interested, I could make a little grab-bag of tracks I've been listening to lately (not just hip-hop, though, I've been listening to other stuff as well, such as Beirut, Elliott Smith, Angela Aki, Ephel Duath, and other stuff.)

Actually, I just re-listened to American Edit, which is a mashup album using Green Day's American Idiot as it's main source. I swear that album is pure fucking genius. It's not a mashup the way you might hear at a club where they mash maybe a beat with a well known track, and leave it at that, there are so many layers of sampling and such that it absolutely amazes me. Plus, the entire album is mixed in key, so none of the samples jar or anything, because they are all in the same key.

One of my favourite tracks form the mashup: Dr. Who On Holiday
Which samples:
Speech by George W. Bush, (January 3, 2003, Fort Hood, Texas)
Speech by the Daleks, (from episode 6 of "Genesis of the Daleks")
Green Day, "Holiday"
The Timelords, "Doctorin' the Tardis"
Gary Glitter, "Rock and Roll Part 2" (Sample used within "Doctorin' the Tardis")
Ron Grainer, The Doctor Who Theme Song (Sample used within "Doctorin' the Tardis")
This is going in my sig. :)

Ah man, I love me some Ephel Duath. The Painter's Palette is such an amazing album, hahaha. I don't care for Pain Necessary to Know nearly as much, though.

I've really fallen into a musical slump again, so I'm looking into MF doom, getting some more Queen and a few other things.

Also I CANNOT stop listing to this song.

I've never played this game, but this song is fucking insane.

Nope, there's a new one, it just came out. It's really goddamn awesome, it reminds me more of their first album than Nothing Lasts, though.

What would you say is their most recommendable album?

Oh yeah, and how is Between the Buried and Me? I've been meaning to look into them but I forgot about them a while ago.

I'm not a huge metalcore fan, but I have several friends who swear by Between the Buried and Me, and I did see them with Dream Theater and Opeth a few years back, and they're not terrible. If you're into metalcore, I'd give them a listen, since they seem to have more musical merit than the vast majority of metalcore groups.

As for Shpongle, you can't really go wrong with any of their albums, but I'd suggest either the new one (Ineffable Mysteries from Shpongleland) or Tales of the Inexpressible.

Oh yeah, and how is Between the Buried and Me? I've been meaning to look into them but I forgot about them a while ago.

Sample 1: Alaska

Amazing guitar work in the opening (crazy sweep picking), moves on to metalcore insanity, a cool breakdown section, and weird as fuck guitar work. In 2 minutes.

The entire band is insanely skilled.
Example: Colors studio footage

Let's put it this way: They can play one song that sounds like rush, which breaks down into an almost opeth-esque metal-ish section, and then slow down, and have a jazz bass solo, and then ramp back up to absolute metalcore insaity. And all the while, they keep changing time signatures and tempos (sometimes to the point where I can't even follow what the time signature is any more).

Basically, they can play anything, meld it together, and make it metalcore as fuck.

When I first heard them, I nearly shit a fully formed brick house.

I highly suggest listening to their video of their drummer playing Prequel to the Sequel:
Part1

Part2

Part 2 has a weird 3/4 section that's like a slow polka or something, lol, then into more 3/4 guitar work and such.

So, I just found an awesome deal at the HMV in Barrie.

Out of nowhere, a CD by AIR caught my eye. I couldn't believe it, because they're not exactly all that well known (well, maybe in certain circles, but in general, most people would never have heard of them). But what amazed me was that it was the special 10th anniversary release of Moon Safari, containing 2 CDs (The album, and bonus remixes and rare radio recordings [CD quality recordings]) and 1 DVD of them on tour. All that in a digipack with a 12 page booklet, for $20. And since my income taxes just came back and I've got some money, I decided that was my impulse buy. Well worth the $20, I'd say.
This is going in my sig. :)

This song is stupidly catchy.

He's kind of a slow rapper, but he's definitely got some catchy songs.
