Actually, Spectere, earbuds not only are dangerous when loud, but they make a lot of shit grow in your ears (ie bacteria) if you don't properly clean them at frequent intervals, apparently.

So basically, if you don't something fairly obvious (i.e. clean yo' shit), you can get bacteria'd.  I think I'll be okay. ;P

Good thing I upgraded my speakers from stock to some nice Pioneers.  WOO go me.

Pioneer DEH-5500MP CD/MP3/WMA head unit; 4x50W output
2x 6" Rockford-Fosgate 2-way circular speakers in the back
2x 6" Pioneed 4-way circular speakers on the kick panels

About the only thing I'd add would be a decent subwoofer system.

I still have to get a better HU, but as far as my speakers go, I have
4 6.75" Pioneer 4-way / kick panels and in the back [model TS-A1782R]
I wish that cake was a lie. :(

Man, today was a great day. At noon I begged for money in front of Walmart for indoor percussion. That was actually pretty fun, because me and my friends dicked around a lot and acted goofy towards the customers there. I wore my kickass black hat and sunglasses, and bowed to everyone who passed by while greeting them with something awesome (like "salutations" or "hello, good sir/madam"). I made more money than anyone else there all day, just because of how cool I am 8)

Nice, nice.

I'm not sure exactly what model speakers I have; my car's kinda far away from me right now, haha.  When you reduce the bass you can pretty much crank the system as high as it'll go (not that I recommend it, heh) but at higher levels the bass tends to distort a bit so I generally keep it a little lower than I'd like to.

Those speakers do give great sound on things with a lot of bass and little mid-range, though, like rap and hip-hop.  I think I can see why so many people listen to it -- it's not hard to put together a system that can handle it well.

Anyone ever sit beside a 12" alpine sub when it's blasting? I have. Now that is an experience. The sub took up the driver side and middle seat in the back of the car (it was a temporary thing). But man, sitting beside one of those at full blast is one hell of an experience.

In other news, having hearing loss can be a bit of a problem every now and again, but not as much as some people might think... (well, mine's not all that bad anyway, it's more frequency loss than a uniform drop in perceived sound level.)

Also, ear buds pump out the exact same volume that headphones or a car stereo would, generally. They adjust the output to deal with the difference in sound amplification that your causes, as well as for the fact that they are much closer to the ear drum.

All in all, unless you consistently put your music above about 80 db, you're gonna be fine, but if you listen to 80+ db music for any length of time, you're likely to lose your hearing over time.
This is going in my sig. :)

I sat on the back bumper of a little 1992 Chevy Cavalier with a set of 12" Sony Xplodes with the volume cranked.  Best ass massage ever.

The next natural step was to set a quarter down on the trunk lid and watch it quickly vibrate off.

Since we're playing speaker-side penis wagging, I've stood next to (and in front of) a B-52 when it's going at concert volumes. THAT'S loud as hell.

Yeah, that would be. I wasn't trying to flex my e-penis with my comments, just mention that I have experienced being next to a sub in a car cranked, and know what sort of experience it is (a damn cool one at that.) I would not recommend that to anyone who cares about their hearing, lol.

To be honest, some of that stuff is a bit over my head as well, but mostly just because I've had no reason to learn more about car stereo systems and such.

When I got my car [used 2001 nissan altima GLE], I didn't know anything either.. so I decided to learn :D  There was only the stock speakers installed, and the rear 2 were blown out, plus on top of that, there was NO speaker at all in the passenger door. The really only working one was the drivers side door.  Ha.  Researched, bought 4 good speakers, installed them myself, and tada, excellent audio :D

I didn't mean that like it came out haha. I just meant since we were talking about our large-speaker stories I'd throw mine in. On a side note:

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK I leave for Katsucon on Thursday morning.

Damn. O.o

My Satty only had one blown speaker, on the rear driver side, I believe.  It was all connected to a tape deck that worked about 90% of the time (and, as I started to use it, it started playing tapes faster...I hate when they do that).

The first thing to go were the old speakers.  Just swapping those out worked wonders with the stock deck because in 1995 car manufacturers didn't seem to be too concerned with audio quality.  After I installed my Pioneer deck...mmmMMMmmmMMMMmmMMMMM!!!  Orgasm.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK I leave for Katsucon on Thursday morning.

Erm...have fun? XD
