Future Predictions
« on: January 03, 2008, 06:07:22 PM »
I know we're all interested in technology, and I thought this was pretty interesting.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ray_Kurzweil#Future_Predictions

This guy is some kind of famous inventor or something, and he has all these predictions for technology of the future.

"Human body 3.0 (as Kurzweil calls it) comes into existence. It lacks a fixed, corporeal form and can alter its shape and external appearance at will via foglet-like nanotechnology. Organs are also replaced by superior cybernetic implants."

"Devices that deliver sensations to the skin surface of their users (i.e.--tight body suits and gloves) are also sometimes used in virtual reality to complete the experience. "Virtual sex"--in which two people are able to have sex with each other through virtual reality, or in which a human can have sex with a "simulated" partner that only exists on a computer--becomes a reality."

There's a ton of them. Just thought I'd share.

2045: The Singularity

Can't wait till I get this beastly machine. Maybe then I can play Crysis.

Whoa, those are really cool. They aren't gonna seem as crazy once they actually start existing, though.

My computer runs Crysis ok on all low at 1024x768 and less, lol. I've tried higher settings, but they are really choppy. Also, that game is HARD.

I like these ones:
Quote
Most human workers spend the majority of their time acquiring new skills and knowledge.

Humans are beginning to have deep relationships with automated personalities, which hold some advantages over human partners. The depth of some computer personalities convinces some people that they should be accorded more rights.
AI anyone?

Quote
Picoengineering (technology on the scale of trillionths of a meter) becomes practical.

Femotengineering (engineering on the scale of one thousandth of a trillionth of a meter) might be possible.

1013 bits of computer memory--roughly the equivalent of the memory space in a single human brain--will cost $1000

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't 1013 bytes (not bits) of memory 1TB? And doesn't 1TB cost a bit less than $1000? lol.
This is going in my sig. :)

It's 10[super]13[/super] is ten trillion (10 TB or 10 Tbits), actually.  Also, you're confusing memory and hard disk space.

So they actually measured the amount of memory a human mind can hold? Also that advanced AI stuff is scary. Never seen the movie A.I. but I wouldn't want any advanced AI trying to merge it's consciousness with me.

I like the idea of having a personal sex slave android. It would be fueled by semen so you'd have to use it.

It would considerably reduce the increase of human population.

I'd have a semen fueled car then, or should I say semen fueled tractor trailer.

Actually, speaking of obscurely-fueled vehicles... I thought it would be a good idea to have happy-fueled cars that ran on pleasant thoughts. That way there would be no road rage because their cars would stop working. Or explode.

But I don't want to explode... =(

Actually, the only reason I get pissed off while driving (not to the point of being destructive, just to the point of making hilarious angry rants) is because of people doing stupid shit while driving.  Maybe vehicles should be powered by smartiness!

Great, now the phrase "OH NOES HER NANOMACHINES!!11" is stuck in my head.

Code: [Select]
f(u,c,k,_,y,e,a,h)
{return u*u*u*u-u*u*u*_+u*u*y-u*e+a?k?f(u+1,c,k-1,_,y,e,a,h):0:putchar(u-c+h)==f(u+1,u,k-1,_,y,e,a,h);}
main(){return f(0,0,34,84,2423,26628,72864,98)<putchar(32)>f(0,0,40,125,5809,118995,906750,96)==~putchar(10);}

Thanks for pointing that out. Yeah, 10Tbits of memory would be pretty damn expensive :/ It would be 1.25 TBytes.

Good to know i'm not the only one who thought of that.

Exactly what I thought. Although my system plays it just fine on High 1280x1024 :V
