should i get back into ddr

i mean, i need new pads, and they're like $80 or some retarded shit. dunno why adding a peace of 1-inch thick foam bumps up the price $50 but whatever. is there still a ddr 'scene' or whatever? does it still basically suck?

and how are supernova/2? ddr universe (and 2? is there a 2?)? does stepmania still have a bunch of pad steppers making terrible charts for other bemani songs and shitty j-pop?

If you enjoy playing, sure.  I've never really gotten out of it because I still find it fun (though I rarely play official charts -- I typically play on ITG2 machines with custom songs enabled).

and how are supernova/2?

SuperNOVA is meh.  Dunno about SuperNOVA 2.

ddr universe (and 2? is there a 2?)?

Pretty decent.

does stepmania still have a bunch of pad steppers making terrible charts for other bemani songs and shitty j-pop?

Naturally.

With no a0.com for all the cool keyboard sim makers, the scene has fractured and gone to shit. I can barely find any authors who aren't adding boatloads of tripples and shit into their sims now. Why can't Reach make a comeback and make some good sims again....

I want to see more from Toph. I haven't really checked or anything, but his stuff was awesome, I've always been a fan.

Also, play the game if you enjoy it, regardless if there's a scene or whatever. Unless of course you are concerned with that kind of thing, which is perfectly reasonable.

I say, try out the new shit (which I haven't even seen) and make your decision based on that.

P.S. Hi how are you?

Yeah, I've been playing stepmania since before I knew of the "scene" and a0.

I'd also like to see more Toph stuff, but I'd like something a bit harder from him, he tended to make charts a bit on the easy side. And they were a bit predictable at times. I'd love to see more stuff by Kilga. He always had some weird patterns, and when a song deserved to be tough, he delivered. I still ahve trouble on parts of his Shining Collection (Fucking jacks. Fucking shitty jacks.)

Kilga's easily my favorite stepfile artist. Reach is probably next, though. I've gotten to be able to deal with hands in stepfiles, so I'm really likin' Zaghurim's files.

I can deal with some, but have you ever played any sims by Glove? He throws them in EVERYWHERE. And they're mostly unnecessary, except for making it insanely hard. He has sections with 12th note random hands, like 426 486 428 486 426 and stuff in some of his sims. It's retarded.

I'm kind of partial to Mungyodance for pad stuff, but I might be a bit biased.

If you hate anthropomorphic artwork you might want to stay away.  If you aren't biased against things just because the Internet tells you to be, give it a go.

Just be warned: the Mungyodance boss songs are painful.  MGD2 is worse than MGD, MGD3 is going to be worse than MGD2.

yeah uh i'm not a fan of furry artwork not because it's something the internet told me to hate but because it's weird as fuck and i don't get what the hell it would be doing in a dancing game

are the banners and bgs like that and why is this thing an exe and not a zip

lol, run-on sentence.

Also, bear in mind that it's not all anthro art.  I just mentioned that because some people are like zomg furriez.  It's also all tame...I don't know a single person who was ever weirded out by any of it.  Let's just say, my mom's definition of "furry" came from that CSI episode and she didn't see anything strange about the artwork.

It's a full installer.  Mungyodance has its own engine (heavily modified StepMania 3.9) and everything.  It's completely standalone.

I make a lot of pad stuff these days. I don't really release anything but we'll see. And it's mostly for IIDX and Pop'n Music stuff.

I basically can't stand any file put out by anyone on ODI these days. The charts are just dumb. The entire solo fad they have going is also dumb.

I still kind of think putting hands in files is dumb, but no one agrees with me >: |
