That's odd, I never ran across that problem. I mean there was a few snipers on that map, but it rarely got that bad.

Creek, and to a lesser extent Chinatown and Broadcast were pretty bad for snipers.

It wasn't really the number of snipers, it was the difficulty of stopping them without specific loadouts.  You were stuck either counter-sniping them, going around the map and wasting precious time by going for the side ramp (assuming that nobody with a shotty was camping there in defense of the sniper, which I've seen happen a couple of times), or lobbing grenades and hoping for the best.

I'm not really sure what gametypes you did (I stuck to HQ, Domination, that neutral bomb carrying one and sabotage) but I never really ran into that problem. I also played on a "teamwork server" so people would use smoke grenades to cover open areas. Bloc was really bad with snipers too.

Also I'm bummed that the online community for Lead and Gold (played it right now, might be a bad time), Monday Night Combat, Dino-D Day and the Specialists are all dying or dead. MNC has seem to shrunk a lot, and the rest have practically no one online. At least the Specialists has bots.

It's probably because I mainly played TDM.  It seems like people usually resort to camping like that when there's nothing to defend.

I probably should have given the other game modes a shot, but after having my stats reset for the fourth goddamn time (the first time was because my level 34 character was on a computer with a different CD key, and the multiplayer character file is locked to your CD key, the second was because I forgot to move my character file over, and the other times were because the game bugged out and just reset my rank) I just set the game aside.

Downloaded Arma 2, but I can't really get it running (did some training mission then it froze afterwards). I've also been trying to get into King of Fighters 2002. It's a stupidly fun game but trying to find 3 fights that I like and can learn their moves is proving to be a pain when the cast consists of 50+ people and I have a 20 second timer.

Arma 2 is a total bitch to get running on (AFAIK) anything newer than XP.  I don't remember what I did to get my copy to play, but I still run into glitches and crashes every once in a while.

Shit son, I'm not even done with GTA3. I hear Vice City is good so I'm going to play that prior to jumping to YOU A BUSTA CJ. Also I thought everyone hated Roman after a while.

Arma 2 is a total bitch to get running on (AFAIK) anything newer than XP.  I don't remember what I did to get my copy to play, but I still run into glitches and crashes every once in a while.

I'll mess with it when I unfuck my GPU. It looks pretty awesome, but I've never played a military sim before and I don't have a mic. I hope it's more then "scout around for a half an hour, call in an enemy position, get shot and die".

I realized there's a whole new set of missions once I beat a few more minor (and really fucking annoying. Need to move BURNING ROCKS that hurt me all the way across a map, and I'll move real slow and I cannot heal or be hit while doing this).

So yeah, I'm addicted to Monster Hunter Tri again. Something about it, the challenge and the amount of skill used during each fight just make it so fun.

Installed Vice City for the hell of it, and since I'm so close to beating GTA3. Holy SHIT this game is good. Tons of guns that are actually fun to use, the chainsaw is stupidly rewarding, the sword can cut peoples heads off, the shotguns actually feel viable (they still have the retarded spread, but it's used wisely in this game as it indicates how wide and far the bullets go) the snipers can shoot down helicopters if it hits the prop/cockpit. Everything just seems awesome.

Speaking of Monster Hunter Tri, I just started playing it tonight.  I started at about 10:00 with the intent of just getting through the tutorials and just ended up shutting off my Wii about 15 minutes ago.  Very fun.

It took some time to get used to the controls.  Not because they were extra complex, but because of the amount of precision needed.  Luckily, the analog stick on the nunchuk is quite good, so that was hardly an issue.

Now, time for some early complaints (woohoo!).

First of all, I have a feeling that the limitations of the Wii are hampering what the game could be.  There might be a lot to see, but you wind up jumping from tiny stage to the next tiny stage, separated by loading screens.  I'm glad the first thing I did was rip the disc, because I'd hate to see what the loading times would be like without me having done that (honestly, anything longer than hard drive loading times would have probably started to bug me after a couple of hours).  The graphics being Wii-esque doesn't bother me so much, but the game being separated into levels is unfortunate.  I was hoping that it would be a bit more of an open world.

The worst sin that I've seen so far is that corpses disappear way too fast.  When I'm in area 6 hunting those small carnivores, I generally wind up taking three or four of them on at a time.  However, since I'm still using noob weapons, by the time I manage to kill the third one, the first two corpses are already gone.  I don't know if you lose the loot from them or if it appears back at the village (the game doesn't tell you either way, and I'm generally out of the village long enough that I can't really tell), but the very idea that I could be missing out on loot because of that annoys me.  If I find out otherwise it won't be as big of an issue.

Outside of that, it made me want to turn my Wii on (nmiaow), so a major victory goes to Capcom right there.  I still can't help but imagine what the game would be like if it had a large, sprawling world rendered in glorious 720p, though.

The load times are almost not noticeable. The initial load time for a map is around 30 seconds to a minute with different areas loading within 10 seconds.

I'm assuming the maps are set up that way because it's supposed to resemble the PSP maps. That, and trying to chase a flying monster through 8+ areas that are huge would be a HUGE pain. There's supposedly an MMO, not sure how maps work in that.

Same, I sort of hope they make a PS3/next gen console release. The scale and size of these battles in HD would look fan damn tastic.

Also, assuming this is your first monster hunter, get good at dodging and blocking. The game basically revolves around you dodging the vast majorities of the shit thrown at you, and you need to memorize the different moves and states of monsters (rage, stamina depleted, wounded).

I suppose it would be annoying chasing a monster a great distance (remember, I'm still in the early stages of the game where that's not much of an issue), but it just makes the game feel kind of cramped to me.  I'm starting to see areas that are a bit larger (like the underwater area near the beginning) but the frequency of load screens really breaks immersion.

Another issue that I have with them is when monsters run close to the map change triggers.  I went to carve one monster that was a bit too close and wound up warping to the next screen.  Ugh.  Tiny levels are so N64.

Yep, this is my first Monster Hunter.  And yep, I've heard things. :)  Considering the amount of handholding I've gotten thus far -- on a Capcom game, no less -- I have a good feeling that things are going to get much, much harder.

As for the monster states, I have been paying close attention to the subtle behavior changes on the earlier monsters.  I'm actually very impressed both by how expressive the monsters are and how each monster type has a distinct behavior.

All in all, I think I'm going to like it.
