How is this? It looked like the splinter cell co op but with more shootan. Too bad the commercial for it made it seem like generic shootan.

It's more like Gears of War with more co-op elements.  General consensus seems to be that the game was designed for co-op with single player play being an afterthought. :P  I haven't soloed it yet, but the co-op play is fun.  You really do have to be careful in some parts, though, because the enemies will overwhelm you if you don't play smart.  Best of all, it's one of the few games where suppressive fire is actually effective, and where enemies will actually aim for the guy with the LMG before they shoot at the one with the pistol.

I just started playing Phantom Hourglass. It's pretty fun.

Code: [Select]
f(u,c,k,_,y,e,a,h)
{return u*u*u*u-u*u*u*_+u*u*y-u*e+a?k?f(u+1,c,k-1,_,y,e,a,h):0:putchar(u-c+h)==f(u+1,u,k-1,_,y,e,a,h);}
main(){return f(0,0,34,84,2423,26628,72864,98)<putchar(32)>f(0,0,40,125,5809,118995,906750,96)==~putchar(10);}

i just busted into earthbound.  i last played this when i was a freshman in highschool, and i recall getting to summers.  also, i remember this game being stupidly hard (like enemies killing me in 1-2 hits hard[maunly remembering moonside like this]...but bosses are easier than regular enemies...very strange)

so far, i just whipped through the start to beating the police forces...with just about no trouble at all.  the bosses were easy, just use some psy rockin and they go down rather quickly.

maby i was a retarded kid, or maby i just had a bad rRRraaAWWWmm.

anyway, bustin' dudes in the face with a baseball bat, eating burgers, this is my kind of rpg.

*edit*

ohh kay, now its getting hard.

enemies everywhere who spend every fucking turn draining my mana, followed by enemies that give me a cold i can't cure due to having no mana, ohh and they evade just about every one of my attacks.  i literally had a lil ufo dodge over 6 attacks IN A ROW, which i then decided i was almost dead, and ran.  i eventually loaded to my last save due to the amount of bullshit in this area.

how is this possible again?  ohh yea, i forgot, this is a jrpg...grind grind grindgrind grind.

*edit*

ok, yea, i made it to the second boss, somehow.

fuck this game, im going to play a nice easy game, like gradius 3.

YES THAT WAS SCARCASM BUT EARTHBOUND MAKES GRADIUS 3 LOOK EASY

FFFFFFFRRRUUUSSSTTTRRRAAATTTIIOOONNN

*edit*

so there is a shop in the happy happy village, and i was supposed to get paula before venturing into the cave i died in....things are a bit easier now.

*edit* kay im in threed

you know, i really should consider doing a lets play, maby i would be entertaining.  if i had some video/audio recording software...maby MABY i would do a lets play of contra.  8 parts, 8 levels, me being a jackass, i wonder if people would watch that.

Oh man, Earthbound is AMAZING. I can get pretty far into it before I get stuck and shit, but it definitely is challenging unless you already know what you're doing. It's quite a bit longer than you'd expect though.
This is going in my sig. :)

shrien the wanderer is going to fucking kill me

it's a roguelike. permadeath, semi-random dungeons (there are like 6 layouts for every floor chosen randomly), and it's on the ds.

i've only made it to floor 17 of 30 after playing for ~6 hours :(

Shigesato Itoi, the creator of Earthbound/Mother series has actually said in interviews that the reason the game has such a massive jump in that valley and then later on in the department store is that it represents the unknown and the anxiety that goes along with running headlong into it. The hero feels unsure about what he's doing and so the enemies are much harder to show that. It has nothing to do with making you grind. It's just something that 99% of all game players would never think about, which makes me sad. They just think that oh this is a video game so they just made this part harder and I should grind to beat it and not WHY that part is actually harder beyond where it is in the game.

I could go on and on on the amazing intricacies of Earthbound but I'll stop for now. The game really does change how you look at games though, as long as you don't just approach it as "I'm killin dudez, gettin to the next boss" and really think about what you're doing and saying. Even better, read the entire game out loud.

I am currently playing:

Rock Band (Boston pack just came out today and I'm also apparently great at "singing" thrash songs because I'm 14th and 17th place on two of them)
Ace Combat 6 (haven't actually started yet but it's there)
Lost Odyssey (on disc 4, unbelievably good RPG)
The Club (old school arcade scorefest. God I love this game. Shame no one understands that it isn't like every other 3rd person shooter and doesn't need a cover system because that would completely negate the point of the game...)

It's great to see other people who appreciate the game. I didn't realize that's what was going on there, but yeah, Earthbound has to be in my top 10 greatest games of all time list. Somewhere near the top.

I saw this on steam and it looked like a generic shooter, but it's not?

I wouldn't even call it a shooter. I mean, yeah it's a third person shooter but it's FAR from generic...mostly because no other shooter is like it. Each stage is a bit different.

Sprint has you killing guys, shooting time targets and picking up clock icons for more time and you try to get through the stage killing as many people and shooting as many of the time targets as you can. Killing guys in various ways (depending on where you hit them, if you ricochet the bullet, head shots, distance, if you roll before killing them, killing multiple guys at once, breaking down doors and then killing them) gives you more points and gives combos. Whenever you aren't killing someone, the ticker slows ticks down until you start losing combo multipliers. Keeping your multiplier high by killing guys at a good rhythm, shooting special targets and getting to the end quickly is key. You usually run a few laps around the area.

Siege and Survivor are mostly "survive" the onslaught of guys while keeping your combo up as high as possible. Siege is more long range shooting. Survivor is more up close usually.

Run the Gauntlet is basically Sprint but without laps. It's also usually more guys to kill and you get different weapons.

Pretty sure there's another one. Every character is different. You basically participate in each event trying for the highest score. It's like Tony Hawk + shooting.
