I'm trying to do some screeching, but all I get it a painful rasp.  I'll growl, though.

Heh, Ulver is one hell of a band.

Also, some stuff, you can't always do without truly screaming (as in screaming at talking level VS truly screaming). One of my brother's friends has a crazy grindcore band, and he does the vocals, and he's not one to keep it down when he screams, lol. And it shows. So yeah, if you haven't already tried, try some of your screams at full volume (somewhere where people won't hear you, lol).

You know, that may just be it.  I guess I was used to doing a low growl at a volume lower than speaking voice that I didn't think of doing anything different besides essentially doing the same thing with the exclusion of singing from my head and opening my mouth as wide as possible.  I'll give it a shot and see how it goes.

Yeah, I can't growl low, but I can at least get something out when I try at a higher volume.
