First off, I *think* I finished all (if not, most) of the quests in Mulgore, so I ran off to the Barrens today and ended up getting meself a raptor!  I named him "Rawr." ^.^

That sounds about right. You don't get your first gold till at least then anyway. Sometimes even later.

Currently 15, lawl.  That's my third character; I raised two other ones to level 12, made all of my dumb beginner's mistakes with them, and baleeted them.  I could have probably dinged 20 by now if I were awesome enough to have raised one good character, but whatever.  I also have a lv.12 druid sitting there.  Kind of debating whether to continue playing that toon or not since I'm really digging my hunter right now.

I also found out that staying in Mulgore so long really held me back, money-wise.  Loot in the Barrens is actually worth something. <_<

Yeah, for your first char at that level, 15 sounds exactly right for your first gold. I got my first gold around there myself. After that you can usually manage to get them a bit earlier, but usually 15 is perfect for your first char to hit that level.

Technically speaking, I got my first gold at 14, but whatever.

I've found skinning to be fairly profitable at this point.  20 pieces of light leather isn't that hard to get (ESPECIALLY in Mulgore, considering my pet and I can kill beasts by the truckload there now) and it'll get you a cool 3 silver pieces for each bundle, even from the NPC vendors.

Making Kodo bags and selling them at the Auction House would probably be a pretty profitable venture for me now, too.  Bags are pretty expensive in that game. :|

You know what else is insane?  Raptors.

In the Barrens I was doing a bit of mountain climbing to get to Ratchet and I ran into a raptor.  I had my track beasts skill enabled, so I could see that there were plenty in the area, so I decided to fight that one instead of taking the risk of (1) plummeting to my death or (2) running into a larger group.  All of the ones in that area were pretty low-level, between lv.12 and lv.14, so it wasn't a big deal.

Well, this one raptor called for help before it fell.  Two more attacked my faithful pet and I.  We took those two down, only to have two more to come for help.  Good times, good times.  It wasn't really a difficult battle by any means, it just lead to an awesome reaction:

"Okay, no problem." *attacks lone raptor*

"Alright, let's start moving."  *gets attacked by two raptors*  "What the hell?"  *target, set pet to attack it, walk forwards, turn around, arcane shot, scorpion sting, blat blat blat...target other raptor, rinse and repeat*

"Okayyyy..." *casts mend pet* "...now let's..."  *gets attacked*  "GAH"

It's funny how relatively nonthreatening some mobs are after you get a pet.

Well, hunters need their pets, just like warlocks need their summons. Without one it's a lot harder to do well.

Yeah, pretty much.  It was really "fun" doing some of the quests without a pet.  Hunters are practically worthless when it comes to melee. :/
