There some way to display an FPS counter in games?

Specifically, games that don't seem to have one built in?

I'm talking specifically about Atlantica Online, as I would like to tweak my system a bit and I'd really like to see the FPC I'm actually getting when I change all the settings around and such, but the game doesn't have an FPS counter built in, that I can tell.

X fire has one, not sure how accurate it is but it should be alright.
