it's not unusual for him to have long stints of inactivity, post a little bit, then back to the inactivity.

Monday at 3pm, I decide my fate. I get my application/interview session with Fedex thanks to my dad and with luck, I'll get my job and I'll get my career. It's one of those things that's really clawed at the back of my mind for a really long time. I guess it's just something that happens when you start hitting your mid-20's and most of your friends seem to have better lives than you do yeah?

This job is only part-time but Fedex is really good on moving up the ranks. I'll probably have to wait a year or so for a full-time route to open up (this is a courier position) but until then it's 3pm-8pm Monday-Friday for $15.61/hr with full benefits.

I figure the interview should go very well because I plan on bringing up the fact that my dad's been with the company for 21 years now and my brother's been with them for 10 and I'd like to start my time with them. Strong loyalty and ties to the company should really get them going.

Now I just need to write out my employment record for the last 10 years (good lord they are thorough) and get everything together.

And then next Friday, I'm moving across the Twin Cities westward into a house!

It's a super busy week next week.

I know what you mean (sort of). I'm still young yet I feel like I'm going nowhere in life.

guess i would be in the same boat, albiet a few years younger.  starting to look into what i want to "go into" education wise.  i mean, there's the general college credit stuff which is whatever, and then there's the stuff i would want to go into.

two months ago, i didn't have anything.  now, im leaning towards the sciencey stuff, particularly astronomy.  i mean a person like me going into that shit?  well, i am interested in the subject, i can't see it being too crazy to delve into such a field.

still i guess im still young, thinking about starting college in the winter...which i should start getting shit sorted out soon so i don't further procrastinate on it.

*eeed*

watched the diago v justin rematch thing.

diago picked...guile...and it was a tie...

so yeah it was pretty interesting, since diago didn't pick ryu, i was actually rooting for him.

I still think Daigo threw that last round. He just walks right up to him when he had never done anything close to that in the entire rest of the match. And he had such a huge lead that there's no way Daigo would normally chance that. He wanted to make it more exciting and it ended up as a double KO.

Also, I think I'm totally set for this interview tomorrow. I have all of my employment history accounted for, gaps and all, I've got some great references both inside the company and out, a game plan for the whole thing (harp on loyalty to the company and family ties to it), my clothes are all clean.

I just have to find my dress shoes, wherever they went.

Got a new monitor for my PC! It was a graduation gift from my parents.

Samsung 23" LCD. 2ms response and 1920x1080 resolution.

AND AS A GIFT TO MYSELF: Last week my Windows 7 arrived in the mail. 90 bucks with student discount!

Now all I need is to fix/replace the fan (grinds for a bit when I turn on the PC) and maybe pump it up to 4GB RAM instead of just my 2.

Also congrats Eggman, Fedex is apparently a pretty chill place to work. What are the benefits like?

My initial interview went very well. The other guys that were there for it were a lot older than me (Fedex likes to hire youthful guys over older) and two of them had speeding tickets in the last couple of years so they're right out of the running. I was also the only one actually dressed up for it and prepared with my own pen and my employment/address history printed out beforehand.

My second interview (the major one) should be late next week. Crossing my fingers on this one. Fedex gives full benefits for permanent part-time with full dental coverage, vision, nearly full medical (something like 90% of all doctor's visits/surgeries), they give a 401k plan, paid time off, etc, etc, the whole shebang and I could definitely use it.

in before age discrimination lawsuit

oh, wait

A little more seriously, though, good luck with the job. I wish I'd be able to get something like that, haha.

I'd want to hire younger guys too if the job required lifting up to 75 pounds unassisted fairly regularly. You can't count on a 45-50 year old man being able to do that for too long. I know I sure as hell could do that all day long. I love physical labor (as weird as that sounds). My favorite job that I've had so far was when I worked at the MN State Fair and I had 12 12 hour days in a row. That sort of physical/personal challenge is something I relish.
