I can't see a 3.5" hard drive fitting in my laptop.  I don't care how many SATA ports I wind up with (the board I have specced for my next system has 7, my next case has enough slots for that many, and my next power supply will put out enough power for all of them), external hard drives have definite advantages over internal drives.

In a way I wish I would have gone with a 2.5" drive simply because they can get all the power they need from the USB port, but 750GB is a lot of space (even for me, even if my drive is half full now).

Well, External is portable, and can be changed between computers (or stored in a climate controlled room someplace else, under lock and key and such.) But still, I like having them in the system... I'd rather keep my USB ports free. Honestly, if I was doing external storage for anything over 500 GB, I'd probably want to set up a networked storage server, even if I had to salvage some junker from a garage sale to do it. (a pretty cheap way to do it, too.)
This is going in my sig. :)

Yeah, they run faster in a system, but you can't take them with you.  eSATA is a pretty awesome idea, though, I'm going to try to get an eSATA port in my next mobo; my external enclosure's going to rock when I do that.  Look into my eyyyeeesss...listen to read my voice text...

Only reason I didn't slap the 750GB into my desktop system right now is due to me not having the opportunity to shift the data around to make that possible.  As soon as things settle down and I get a fancy new system (which should happen fairly soon, considering I won't have any expenses aside from food while I'm in Florida for job training...WOOT!) I fully intend to shift my 400GB drive into the enclosure and put my 750GB drive into my compy.

Also, funny you should mention the USB port thing...I managed to use all six ports on the back of my main system (the two in front are basically dedicated to USB pen drives).  I had to get a hub. O.o

Wow, ouch. That's kinda scary when you use all 6. then again, I've got one USB I use for my midi keyboard, one that's always in use for the webcam, and one that's always in use for hooking things like my brother's phone, or his ipod in (actually, each of those use a different port), so I guess if we had much more we'd start getting into trouble with using them all up, lol. I guess it's really not that hard if we were to get an external drive or 2. (We don't have a firewire port, so USB would be all we have)

I'd also prefer an internal, but I'm on a lappy.

I need to get a move on building a tower before going to college.

No final and no class on Monday.
Grades are based upon quizzes, attendance and extra credit papers.

and with this I have passed my classes. Also I didn't have to take the final for my other class so no finals for me either.

Nielsen is a huge company...

Huh, I must have missed it. :o

How long are you going to be in for training?  I'm going to get flown down to Florida in early January -- the 6th, I believe -- and will be there for 5-8 weeks (OH DARN I GET TO MISS OUT ON OHIO'S SNOW LOL).

The 9th, 10th, and 11th graders all have to take the practice TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills) tomorrow. The rest of us get to sleep in until at least 11:00.

EDIT: My mom's getting me 3 of the T-shirts from the xkcd store. :D

Whoa, wait, what? There's a huge chance you'll be getting flown to my county. Where exactly in Florida you headed? Nielsen is huge in my county, it's like its world headquarters.

Oh, and I'm in training for two weeks of M-F, 6:15-10:45. I'm only going to be working there part-time though, so the training really isn't that bad.

I'm going to the main campus in Tampa, so yeah, I'll probably be in the area.  SCARY.

Any good dancity thingies in your area (ITG2 r21+ with custom songs or PIU Exceed or better, preferably)?  I'm pretty much going to have my weekends free and will likely be bored.
