As I post this, I'm running back to my corpse again.

Honestly, who's fucking bright idea was it to have mobs respawn on top of you?  I've gotten killed three times tonight because, in mid-fight, something spawned next to me.

after you play for a while, you learn to be aware of your surroundings.  this includes knowing the aggro radius of enemies, and roughly knowing when repops should be showing up.

That doesn't change the fact that it's bad game design.  It doesn't have anything to do with being aware of your surroundings, either, especially when things just pop in right next to you.  I've seen enemies just appear right beside me, literally.  It's not like WoW has a large visibility radius, either.  You can't see further than, say, 50 yds.  They could wait to spawn enemies until players have left.  It would drastically improve presentation (i.e. things wouldn't just appear nearby) and it would prevent players from getting completely screwed and having to spend five minutes walking back to their body.

Also, some of the mobs in the noob areas seem overly large.  There were a few instances where it literally felt like I was navigating through a maze just because I didn't want to be bothered with having to mow through things that were half my level.

I usually just run straight through stuff like that, they quit following you after a short while.
However, I totally agree with you about that, I have no idea how many times I've been killed by mobs popping up beside/on top of me.
This is going in my sig. :)

I typically do the same thing, but that doesn't help much when you're running low on health, you're trying to flee from a battle, and OMG THINGS RESPAWNED RIGHT BEHIND YOU. :(

Also, I came across mobs that were literally so dense that there's no way I would have been able to survive running straight through them.  Crazy.

At least there isn't any sort of spawn penalty in WoW aside from running to your corpse (and then running, since you only have half health and mana) or having your items take a 25% durability hit.  If you lost levels by the truckload like you do in some other MMOs (or, for that matter, if you were subjected to the completely idiotic rez sickness that Guild Wars has) I wouldn't still be playing it.

Dude, Guild Wars is beyond awful.

When you die it throws a 5% health and mana penalty on you for like 49303 years (not really, but it feels like it -- it's at least 5-10 minutes).  To make it worse, it adds up with every time you die, up to like 30%.  It doesn't put you back in town after that either, no.  You have to make a bee-line through the enemies from the spawn area.  It's fucking dumb.

It probably wouldn't be too bad if my character (a lv.9 elementalist/ranger) wouldn't get his ass kicked by certain lv.3-4 enemies (I'm dead serious).  To make matters even dumber, the aforementioned enemies don't give me any experience when I defeat them despite the fact that they are somehow more powerful than me.

I seriously hate Guild Wars.  Most of my nitpicks about WoW are fairly minor or are, at the very least, somewhat avoidable or easy to work around.  Guild Wars is basically unplayable for me.

Indeed...'tis a bitch.

Another thing that kind of bugs me about Guild Wars is how the entire game is instanced.  I really like how in WoW players can help each other out of jams.  When I was questing the other day, I found myself kind of trapped (thanks to that mob damn respawn system) in an area with little hope of an escape.  Things would have been bad, but I ran into a tauren druid (I was playing my hunter) in the same area.  We didn't even know each other at all -- the only thing that we had in common was that we were doing the same quest -- yet we formed an impromptu party and cut a path out of there, then exchanged a friendly wave and went our separate ways.

I can honestly see why people choose to play MMOs over a lot of single-player games.  There's a certain kind of interaction that you just can't replicate in a single-player experience.

Seconded, but quality of the community is hard to keep when you have something so big. I've literally had people kick me from groups because a healer dying is the fault of the tank regardless of the circumstances, and I've had people devolve arguments into "I BET YOU'RE 13, I'M 26, I HAVE SEX WITH MY GIRLFRIENDS VAGINA, YOU'RE A BITCH". Also the amount of people who act like you're an idiot for not knowing every single little nick name for a move or strategy is staggering.

I've probably had the same amount of people help me tho, so I guess it balances out. Plus when I was bored I liked going into a low level area and raising my hand to hand skills while helping some low level guy do something.

if the expansion comes around christmas, im pretty much still obligated to play through the 70-80 content.

i have a 60 day gamecard, may as well use it up, and what better to get use than with a new expansion.

i basically just want to have a level 80 deathknight.  the hardest part is which race...orc or draenei.  leaning towards female orc, because from my rogue, they work well with the dual wielding thing.  not to mention the draenei weapon animations aren't as cool.  other than that, its a tough call.

anyway, this was sparked by wlk beta footage.  the main reason i stopped playing AGAIN was i went through the 60-70 content, tried raiding(post tbc raiding, pre tbc raiding kicked ass), didn't like it, the guild died, and i got my netherdrake.  this time round, more content to keep busy with for several more months, and then stopping again.  now if i meet up with a good group of people for pvp, i may stay on longer, but if not, i will still enjoy the solo/pug stuff.

I have to say, some people in WoW are beyond dumb.

Case 1: The warrior who wanted to trade his sword for my gun when I was using my hunter.  Uh, yeah...about that...

Case 2: I started an orc warrior last night and raised him to level 9.  Immediately before I logged out just now I had a lv.5 orc warrior challenge me to a dual.  Yeahhhh, about that.

Speaking of my orc warrior, I managed to find a weapon when I was lv.8 that deals an even 7 dps.  Lucky?  I think so.
