I use words like fuck as a word to add emphasis. When you hear someone that doesn't swear too much (well, I am a casual swearer, but you hear the difference) right pissed and swearing like a sailor, you know he's pissed. It really bugs me when people take offense that I said a certain word. Unless it's directed at them, they shouldn't be offended that I happened to say a word in normal speech. It's more or less part of most teenagers' speech now anyway. A word's meaning is only what we make it mean, and when I say fuck in the middle of a sentence, I'm using it to add emphasis, not to insult anyone. What has a more effective message "I fucking hate you" or "I am very displeased with you"? "Fuck this shit, I've had enough" or "I am very much finished with this"? Because I used a word that adds more emphasis than "very" and the few other words we have to express such values.
It just seems to get the point across that much better, and anyone who tries to argue the whole intelligence factor of not using swear words has yet to address how I could match a phrase like "Jesus fuck that hurts!" or something with a non swearing phrase that is as effective at showing pain...
I'm not saying you need to use it, and good for you for not swearing, but people need to lighten up a little sometimes.
