http://www.eve-online.com/faq/faq_07.asp

you can create a portrate, but thats about it, other than that all you see is the space ship you are in

What is the cost after the 14 day period?

$15.00 a month, same as most mmo's

and i MAY in the future start another free trial.  i tried it last december and it was cool for a while, but the learning curve is higher than dwarf fortress, and that game has a brick wall for a learning curve.  also, getting your barrings on trying to make money, what skills to learn, the fact that people can kill you basically everywhere, the fact that THE GAME PUNISHES YOU FUCKING HARD for death, and that stuff.

ohh, being jobless/not really being able to pay monthly is a bit of a setback, but i normally find a way around it one way or another.  but yea, im a bit busy with diablo 2 at the moment, so whenever that passes i may give it another go.

i mean, i would like to get into it, because im a fan of the setting with spaceships and warp travel and whatnot, but it very much is a hardcore game, and it isn't friendly to new people.

Uh, yeah, what vlad said. :P

Its system requirements are awesomely low.  Just to give you a better point of reference, my laptop (Dell Inspiron 9300, Pentium-M 1.73GHz, 2GB RAM, ATI X300) can run the classic client in full screen at 1650x1050 very smoothly.  EVE is one of the few games that runs acceptably at 1920x1200 on that system, though it does stutter a bit (probably due to it only having 64MB of dedicated VRAM).

One thing about EVE -- the higher the resolution, the better.  You'll probably be managing windows more in that game than you normally would inside of Windows. :P  I'd recommend at least setting it to 1280x960 if possible.

it would be pretty cool if we got a few people together with trials to somehow play together.  but the EVE world is so fucking huge...i don't see that being easy.

Oi vey. :D

I would like to get some friends into EVE.  It's kinda lonely for me there.  Random people are only so interesting.

If any of you guys want to stay for any length of time we can probably start an s.net corporation.  I don't want to attempt that without at least four or five people, though...any less than that would really stretch us thin.

I've tried two 14-day trial accounts with the same result both times: lost in space.  Literally.  The universe is so huge that I went the wrong way and never found a way back.  I'm sure if I took the time to learn everything I'd be in the clear, but I just don't have the patience.
