And the instant kill moves are damn near impossible to pull off, to the point that in competitive play, they are useless.

Mike Z lol

That's Mike Z though so ridiculousness is to be expected.

You could have just abused the paragon/renegade glitch on Noveria (the snow place? yeah) where you tell that one guy to testify in court (or not for renegade points) and then when he asks if there's anything else, you can just tell him to do it again and again and again and again.

I ended up ordering Halo: Reach. I didn't like Halo 3 but I'm assured by many pirates that the game is nowhere near the clunkiness of 3. And I honestly did enjoy the Halo: Reach beta. Especially Juggernaut. So much fun.

And I think I'll be doing some system link parties seeing as how I have a 42" TV and two couches upstairs and a 50" TV and a couch and two chairs down in the basement. It'll work out perfectly as long as I can get one of my friends to bring with his 360, get a nice long crossover cable to connect them and get a couple of usb hubs so everyone can use their gamertags and gain points/customization stuff.

My Insanity run was a speed run that took 3 and a half hours I think?

I absolutely loathe how Bioware does character development though. It's completely unnatural. You get "witty" quips every now and then during a mission or in an elevator but then on the ship none of the characters ever references any of the others, no one cares about anyone else and no one moves from their one singular spot or says anything unless you specifically walk up to them at which point they start talking about one specific thing in their entire lives and you just ask questions about it until they start repeating themselves.

I really hate people with ridiculous senses of entitlement. You cannot have expectations for something that is free. You can't "set a bar" for how good a free object can be. It's free. It has no value and you do nothing for it. If I walk into a grocery store and they give me a free tote bag just for walking in the door, I cannot turn to them and say, "How dare you try to give me such a shoddy bag! It needs to be at least THIS nice for me to take!" Unless you're just a total waste of space I guess.

I can't stand cellphone games. I bought Zenonia because it seemed like it was the only one that had some form of actual meat to it but even it's just loaded down with inane time-wasting garbage. And the icons for special attacks are too small. Oh well.

I ended up just throwing an SNES emulator on my X and now I have SNES RPGs to play since I don't trust a virtual d-pad to ever be good enough to play anything else from that era.

Yeah, but that commercial also had taglines like being able to do whatever you wanted and showed tons of explosions. That's "baller" these days.

Ugh.

I just finished it and after the first hour it gets really really good. And then once you "beat" the game you get a real nice epilogue that's a lot of fun. And then you can just search the ship for everything that you have left.

You're missing the other point on those games (Fallout 3 and Mercenaries 2) and that's that the other flavor of the month these days is sandbox games. Market games and tell people that they can do anything in them and they'll play it.

I think you're putting too much weight on the character. Today's gamers don't even care a whole lot about the character they use. I'm talking they want multiplayer with some form of leveling and customization. They're going to have to copy either Halo or CoD on this or it's going to get dumped completely. They've already got health regeneration in the game so they've already dumbed it down a bit though.

And word of mouth doesn't account for a whole lot anymore. Just look at Okami or Valkyria Chronicles or Beyond Good & Evil for 3 games with extremely positive reviews and total bombs in sales. Even "professional" word of mouth didn't get those off the ground.

If it's a good game, the game is going to sell based on its own merits.

This isn't how gaming works anymore.

The standards might be low, but they're still extremely exacting on what MUST show up for a game to have a following. It's not going to follow those (thankfully) and therefore won't get a new following, which is what it needs to do well.

Never said I wouldn't enjoy it or play it. It's just very clearly irrelevant to gaming in general now. What he stood for back in the day is small potatoes now. And great, a small amount of people will enjoy it. That won't stop the massive majority from shitting all over the game and dismissing it giving it the horrible sales I just talked about.

Too bad Duke Nukem is completely irrelevant at this point and even if the game releases, it'll get horrible sales and no one will care.

Negative BPM and negative stops are glitches. They weren't technically supposed to exist, but someone found them and took advantage of them. You can't use them in SSC because the writers completely redid the code and got rid of as many glitches as they could... and those tricks were a couple of them.

How is it laughable? People have brought the game into a different place than it was a few years ago, and they love it.

Like I said, the whole "theories" thing doesn't really exist anymore unless they are trying to BE THE BEST. You might see a theory or two in a file but thats just because thats how they wanted to step in in the first place. Not hard, like you said.

Also, no one likes doubles unless you are playing pad files.

But they 7k is the total "wave of the future" currently though right? So no one likes to play 8k but 7k is the "future?" That is also laughable.

The game isn't in a different place now. Chart writers are trying to do too much with their shitty placement of arrows and so now they think they need more space and that's it making the game better. It never needed expansion, they needed to be better chart writers.

Nope, the entire current Stepmania community is still a big wad of pretentious twats just like it always was.

From the moment you could do it in Stepmania. I remember screwing around with it before any of the gimmick charts started showing up with it. There were some really dumb things you could do with Dance With Intensity too.

The whole point is that the Stepmania community just refuses to believe that it's a very simple game.

Oh, and I've already made 8k songs for Stepmania just using doubles. It's really dumb. But I'm sure they're going to think they're "evolving" the game when they get to that point too, even though people have been making keyboard doubles files for years.

"Evolving" Stepmania is honestly really laughable and no, it doesn't go beyond trying to apply pretentious ideas to something that's just super simple. I can guarantee you that the people who make IIDX charts don't sit there and try to have "theories" or whatever for what they make. They just make charts.

And the whole usage of negative bpm tricks and stuff like that's been around since the beginning. No one used it originally because it's dumb and adds nothing to the actual game.
