It's obvious that we need to discuss the best video game ever invented ever.
So I got back into playing Melee again. For the most part, I've just been working on finally getting the last two characters I had left, Mewtwo and Mr. G&W so I could get the rest of the shit.
As for the poll, I made it so you can choose two different options for your best character because this thread is for ALL versions of SSB, and some people are better with different characters in the different games. I, for example, kick ass with Kirby in the SSB, but Kirby sucks ass in SSBM, so I use Sheik, etc.
SO YEAH!!!!! Just share tips and brag about how much better you are than everyone else and do whatever the crap you want here.
Does anyone here ever use Peach? I think I've used her twice in my entire life...
-
Ganondorf, Falco.
Also, peach is pretty high on the upper tier. Don't talk smack about her, she's a pretty good character. xD
edit: wb sq3r
-
Sheik, Jigglypuff in SSB.
-
Peach is fun.
Samus and Marth, though I regularly play Sheik/Zelda as well.
-
Ganondorf is great. I didn't start using him until I practically stopped playing the game, but before him it was Link Marth/Roy Samus and Fox.
-
Ganondorf is SO SLOW, I can't stand using him at all. Sure, he's powerful, but Captain Falcon has pretty much the same moves, and is SO much faster.
-
Fox, occasionally G&W. I really just love Fox because he has almost no recovery time for any of his attacks, and I use G&W because he's funny.

Yeah, fox is REALLY fast for attacks, but falls like a rock the second he's knocked off the stage. tend to prefer people who have slower fall speeds, because I use a LOT of air attacks and I'm always jumping around.

He is pretty good all around, his slandered A attack is great for opening someone up to a bigger attack.
I used to use Link a lot, but I realized how retardly cheap he can be. I used Gannondorf semi-regularly, but 99% of the time now.
How so? Marth and Fox are much cheaper then he is. I hardly find him cheap at all.
-
Ice Climbers, Ness and G&W for me.
-

Ever notice how uber powerful his down A arial is? Or how awesome throwing 20 bombs mixed with arrows is when 2 people are fighting? He can dish out mad damage without even being hit. I honestly find him to be the hardest opponent in the game on level 9 AI. Whenever I did a Marth (me) VS Roy and Link game to train, link was always at least 1, if not 2 lives ahead of Roy consistently, and was always the last of the 2 to die.

He has a lot of good distance attacks but all of his more powerful smash attacks have a pretty bad delay to them. His A and down is probably his best move and if you miss with it your completely open for about 4 seconds.
Ice Climbers, Ness and G&W for me.
Weird, Ness is cool but G&W always came off as gimped to me.
-
Ness is quite cool, And on the point of missing with the aerial down A, it's such a quick attack that you can pretty much pull it off last second and still get whoever you're going for. It's kinda hard to miss unless you really do it too early.
-
mad damage
lol
also, I'm a Pichu man, usually
-
I can't use pichu. He's too light.
-
Light characters: that's the way I like it baby
-
What, so someone playing Ganandorf can knock you off the stage in 1 hit?
I play characters who jump like they're light, but fall slow, and don't get hit too hard.
-
also, I'm a Pichu man, usually
How? he hurts himself with his own attacks, his OWN ATTACKSS. I used to love pikachu in the first one but they gimped him pretty badly in SSBM. I like any character with a good reach and some decent ranged attacks (Link, Ganon, Samus). I also just noticed how my friend would only pick fox and spam his gun and fire fox move constantly. Funny really because he would kill himself 2 to 3 times a round then saying the only reason I won was because he suicided. Man I wish my friends where less obsessed with Halo 2 and would actually try play SSBM once in a while. Halo 2 is such a meh game, and it's online community is like the worst one ever, next to gunz.
-
Play him 1 on 1 and don't die. Make sure you get all the kills. Then ask him why you won.
-
Play him 1 on 1 and don't die. Make sure you get all the kills. Then ask him why you won.
He's in college, and I never see him. He was good at the game, but I just think he spammed those moves constantly. If he changed it up he would be a lot better. Also I love Link, I guess his arrows can be a littel cheap considering they do like 25 damage when their pulled all the way back, plus his spin attack makes him almost never open.
-
I get Jiggy with Marth.
-
Also, peach is pretty high on the upper tier. Don't talk smack about her, she's a pretty good character. xD
Well I'm not saying necessarily that she's a bad character as far as moves and whatnot goes, but just kind of an odd choice of character to be put in the game in general... maybe I should get acquainted with her before I judge.
Also, Fox is pretty hella cool. He was my second best in SSB after Kirby.
I only have one more thing to unlock in the game and that is the Final Destination level D: I haven't had much time to do it, but the 51st event match seems hella easy, especially compared to the 50th. Giga Bowser is a doofus.
-

Yeah, just use Jigglypuff or Captain Falcon, or even Ganondorf (haven't beaten it with him but got enemy Ganondorf with one life and the others defeated before I lost). It's pretty easy... you'll probably have to spend a bit of time trying and failing before you actually beat it, though.
-
I can't do the 2 hands, it annoys the hell out of me.
-
Yeah, I managed to nearly kill one before I got pwned :/
-
You know who rox for the two hands? Fox. Just use the up + B move over and over on the crazy hand (cause he just seems more dangerous to me) and it does a reasonable amount of damage while also giving you a chance to escape from quite a few of their moves.
-
link and zelda. yap.
-
I can't do the 2 hands, it annoys the hell out of me.
lol, fail. Use Ganondorf to make quick work out of them.
-
lol, fail. Use Ganondorf to make quick work out of them.
Sounds like a horrible idea. I've gotten the first hand then while about half way threw the secound it nailed me and destroyed me. I haven't cared enough to try it since.
-
I agree only because I suck so hard playing Gannondorf that I'd probably have a better chance with pichu.
-
Sounds like a horrible idea.
Wrong. Don't forget that Ganondorf's midair A+Down will do 30+ damage. That makes 10 or less hits for each hand, and it's not that hard to rack them up.
Also, I always go for Master Hand first, mostly out of habit because he has less than 175% damage at any point that Crazy can appear in Classic... it's easy to get rid of the weaker nuisance first, and then go for the singular, lonely Crazy. It seems a bit pointless to do this in event 50 but I always found it incredibly effective.
-
Oh my GOD I finally beat the 51st event match o_o
I tried out Captain Falcon and got pretty far, mostly using "The Knee (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSQuhzHE5ww)" to knock the shit out of Giga Bowser, and MewTwo had just kinda died by retarded means throughout the battle. Eventually, it was just Ganondorf and I both with two lives, and both with similar amounts of damage. It was seriously the most intense match EVER. But you know, one on one with a moderately leveled computer is cake so I won easily.
Man... I am so relieved.
-
I think I managed to beat event 51 with Falco... nearly did so with Ganondorf, got down to 1vs1 with cpu Ganondorf, both with 1 life and 0% damage. Somehow he managed to do something really cheap and I ended up really dead. :[
-
http://www.smashbros.com/
I guess this can go here, I do like the pokeman trainer guy.
-
Event 50's one of the only times I bothered playing Yoshi.
-
I'm the only person who RAPES with Pikachu? Come on!
-
I'm the only person who RAPES with Pikachu? Come on!
I can't stand him since they gimped him so badly in the secound one compared to the first.
-
I personally think they made him MUCH better in the second. Not much of a difference besides charging up moves though.
-

take some time to look at the tier lists :)
he dropped from top tier to lower tier if i remember correctly. kirby did the same, which was a terrible shame. LOLZ RHIME! :D
-
^ yup, I remember kirby, fox, pikachu, and link used to be my favorites in the first one. Also I was fighting the two hands with kirby and was about to kill my first had when I had 0 damage, then one of the hands hit me and did 2 damage and I fly straight to the right the screen and die. I haven't tried it again since.
-
Tier lists are really meaningless and people rely on them way too heavily.
All they mean is that strictly, if two people were absolutely of equal skill and played each character exactly as their strengths demand, one character would likely come out on top. Tier lists don't factor in anything like mind games, items (if you have them on, which I do, usually on high frequency), what other characters are fighting (I personally hate one on one because it just gets into a boring set of who can counter who without screwing up), etc.
-
I find 1 on 1 much more fun, mostly because I don't get ganked by people being asses and such. sometimes I'll get stuck in a position where I'm totally screwed because both people teamed up on me. It's partly because I'm used to winning pretty much all the time, or at least putting up a hell of a fight (with someone of equal skill a 5 life match will usually take 10-15 minutes).
-
The game is way more fun with more people fighting, probably because it's one of the few games where you can do that. I only do point's with multiple people tho, I remember I would have a friend run and hide while everyone else would fight so he would end up winning.
-
Well, I prefer actually being able to knock people out of the battle. Because I use marth, and he's a very aerial type character really, it's harder to recover when hit in the air, and easier to be hit in the air when fighting multiple people. I never liked score battles much, because it was basically "who can use a beatstick the most", as opposed th "who knows how to play their character and the game better." And that is a much better way for someone like me who is a more advanced player. Around here there are generally only about 4 people I can think of who have any chance against me.
-
Okay I need something explained here... I haven't been keeping up much on the Smash Bros. Brawl game for the Wii. In the trailers they have Snake as one of their characters, but on the site, he isn't listed. Is snake just some kind of joke or something?
-
He's there, I think I remember seeing him listed on the site earlier.
-
They haven't listed all the characters yet, their doing daily updates so eventually they'll have him up there.
-
He'll probably either come really close to release, or to end a dry spell of boring updates.
-
Man, that castle stage looks amazing.
-
It's fun to be serious with that game, it's really nicely balanced for the most part, so it's not like you can get a character and just PWN hardcore, like people can in Soul Calibur (Nightmare anyone?)
-
Interesting. I've recently been playing quite a bit of SSBM with my new college friends. I'm not that good at it or anything, partially because I just don't take it as seriously as my friends do. Nonetheless, from playing almost daily I discovered I'm not too shabby with Jigglypuff.
Jigglypuff has that beastly almost instant K.O. move, plus she can put people to sleep so it isn't all that hard to pull off if their wounded.
-
Jigglypuff is actually a pretty good character.
-

Sorry, Jigglypuff's a guy.
And I know what you mean about Soul Calibur. My favorite in that game is Voldo (lol), and I keep getting owned by anyone who plays as Nightmare. It sucks.
-
Sorry, Jigglypuff's a guy.
I didn't think pokemans had a gender.

Check for a peenor! :D
But yeah, they had bits since G/S/C (aside from some exceptions, like the nidoran evolutions).

I guess I just have skills with cute, pink, blob characters.

HOLY SHIT YES, THEIR IS A GOD.
/ejaculate /dies
-
I'm betting he's going to be the new most agile character, so I'll probably use him instead of Fox.
-
I hate the voice acting sonic has. Also why in gods name did they use the music from sonic adventure 2.
Oh shit, delayed.

Last I checked, SSBB didn't even HAVE a release date, so how could they push something back that didn't exist in the first place >_>

It was coming out December 8th. Now it has a 2 month delay.
-
Also I just noticed, if they already put up all the old fighters there taking out a lot of them.
-
So that EGM prank with Sonic will finally be realized?
-
So that EGM prank with Sonic will finally be realized?
I know rite? I hope they at least bring back jiggly puff, Mew two, game n watch, and at least Marth, considering there killing off the clones.
-
I'd really love to see marth back in it, though I'm not likely to get a chance to play it anyway, unless I spend a bunch of money on it whenever I get a job.
-
Mew two, game n watch
Those were the most awful characters in the entire game. If they had any sense, they wouldn't bring those guys back.
-
I could do decent with mew two. His throws are awesome, plus he has a lot of strong attacks and some stun attacks.
-
My only issue with him is that he's awkward, and his jumping feels weird. But I have a lo9t of fun playing him.
-
Mewtwo is a very powerful character but is definitely a bit awkward to use. He has that floaty sort of jump.
His biggest drawback is his weight, or lack thereof. Speaking of which, that's kind of funny, considering he's supposed to be 269 pounds, according to the Pok
-
Yeah, I didn't realize he was supposed to be that heavy, but he's pretty well balanced considering what he can do. And he's rather unique. A couple attacks resemble other moves in the game, but most of them are pretty original.
-
Game & Watch was the best character in Melee. By a lot.
Now, I'm pretty sure Lucas will be my favorite.
-
Game & Watch was the best character in Melee. By a lot.
I have to ask, but how? He isn't all that fast and his moves are kinda meh, besides his 9 hammer. I beat 2 of my friends who where using game n watch and I was jiggly puff.
-
I have to ask, but how?
Because he's hilarious.
-
Uhh. Ok. I don't get how G&W is the best, but ok.
<not sarcasm, just plain confused> I know his hammer can pwn nubs, but still, he's not that great.
-
Because he's hilarious.
His sauceges (don't say pancakes their just S shaped things you don't know what they are) are damn near impossible to get past once he gets started. Unless you have a lot of headroom. Also if you could master jigglypuffs instant KO move you could destroy hardcore.
-
I know they're sausages (who the hell could call them pancakes?), but that move really doesn't do too well on any sorta open level against someone who's actually playing the game seriously.
-
So I played some brawl this weekend. I can answer any questions that i got enough experience to answer.

You gonna tell us how?

I don't know if anyone has posted this yet, but the Smash Ball looks awesome, holy shit. I'm excited to see all the new items they've got, too.
I do think this game is going to be wonderful whenever it does come out.

I am in AWE. I love how you become zero suit samus after the insane smash ball thing.

Oh shit, nice. Well is the play any faster/slower then melee? I've never seen a full out fight, just slight things from the demo.
-
To tell the truth i never had a gamecube so i haven't played a ton of melee, and the friend i went with and played with kinda sucked, but yeah, it's everything it's made out to be. Also, the wiimote by itself worked far better than i expected
-
Because he's hilarious.
BINGO
Hilarity is 90% of why I play Smash at all. I absolutely despise and hate all tournament rules for the game and any attempt to take away the chaos that is the cornerstone of the main game. G&W embodies that chaos very nicely.
In Smash64, my suicide rate with Captain Falcon was triple my actual death rate.

I'm pretty competitive, but yeah, it's definitely the lols that make this game awesome. Basically after every round me and my friends play we either laugh or are just too damn tired to.

*Jaw drops* It looks kinda basic, but either way, that's an awesome feature. I hope it's powerful, because sometimes these sorts of things can be awesome, but other times the developers don't give you enough power, and it just turns out crappy.
-
Reminds me of time splitters 2, cept I never used the one in time splitters. I like the idea of being able to make a completely enclosed square map or a map with one platform and all spikes underneath.
-
That's really awesome. I'm going to make the most annoying levels and no one will want to play with me :D
I wish you could use your own music though...
-
That would be so amazing. Seriously, I was sad when I heard you'd be stuck with their music.
-
limited or not, this is completely unprecedented. i'm excited for it, and definitely appears to be a game (and additional controllers) worth buying. Nice.
-
Thing is, if it's too limited, it'll be the sort of thing that bothers people once the game gets a larger following. Just look at how many different edited versions of the starcraft map editor there are. The original was so limited that people hacked it until it could do some of the things that were possible in SC, but the map editor wouldn't do. Unfortunately, there's not likely going to be much hacking of that editor, so if it's too limited, it will be pretty lame after a short time.
Think about how much better the levels could be if they gave us something as powerful, or damn near as powerful as the editor that nintendo themselves use for making the maps.
-
It would be even better if nintendo and game developers took more advantage of it's swappable media capability. Being able to load maps/levels that were made via PC could be even more advantageous, even allowing for custom music, etc.
-
Yeah wtf. I mean, I can just imagine having a huge brawl with friends while listening to Squarepusher. That'd be swheat.
-

Then why bother making maps at all? Just give people a Final Destination to start with and then say, "well, here's the editor. Have fun." That'd be extremely dumb.
Same thing for the music really. I WANT to listen to remixed/orchestral versions of Nintendo music while I play. If you're just going to allow any music, why bother making any sort of attempt at a good soundtrack? It works for some games where the music really doesn't have any real importance (Excite Truck being a good example) but the music is honestly a pretty big draw for a lot of people.
-
Then why bother making maps at all? Just give people a Final Destination to start with and then say, "well, here's the editor. Have fun." That'd be extremely dumb.
I think it's better giving a dumbed down version of the map maker. Makes things a lot simpler and with that more people will probably use it, plus you can already do a decent amount of stuff with this one. I just hate it when I hear people saying "yes, now I can make a huge final destination" like playing on any map with platforms gives some players a huge advantage, fucking meh.
-
SSBM has an awesome soundtrack, so I don't think Brawl's will even come close to sucking. I wouldn't mind hearing their music in my levels.
As for the level editor itself, if it is too limited, I'll probably do the same thing I did with the SCIII character creator: Spend a ton of time making stuff exactly as I want it for exactly one level.
-
As far as your own music being played on your custom map, I wasn't saying you can use your own music on any level, so the soundtrack wouldn't be completely pointless. I doubt people are going to play more on custom levels than on the regular ones. I usually turn on my own music and mute the game's music anyway, just because the sound on my shitty TV sucks :/
-
You guys have some good points, but a map making feature like what I'm talking about would be geared towards the hardcore gamers, the ones who would be willing and able to learn how to use an advanced map maker to create levels that are really in depth, and to be able to possibly give the level custom music that suits it far better. For example, it would be totally badass to have a level based on abstract moving platforms made from weird shapes and stuff that move in and out of the foreground and background to create a dynamic level based around a squarepusher song using the song as the background music. That would be infinitely better than some crappy final destination clone.
I'm not saying that the soundtrack for the game is bad in any way, because it really isn't, but if you're making a custom map that's different than other maps in the game, it'd be a nice feature to use your own music for it so that you can use a song that would better fit the map.
The whole point of what I'm getting at is that rarely do you ever see a game released with a tool that lets you create unique and custom levels for it, unless the game is based around that, but in my opinion, that would be a great way to add a significant dimension of gameplay to a game. If the map maker was a fully fledged map studio, there would be a whole community of map makers distinct from the community of people who just thrown together something in 10 minutes and call it a map. There would be a group of people dedicated to releasing quality creations that bring the game in a completely new direction without any input from the game creators. With a fully fledged studio, people could make maps that would rival the official maps for both quality and originality. It's a resource that few people recognize and fewer people take advantage of.
after 10 minutes because there's no way to do anything halfway unique with them.
Think about morrowind, and all the mods that people have released for it. Morrowind's editor has the ability to more or less completely redesign th entire world. It's not really all that difficult to work with, and because of that, there are quite a few mods out for it. The only reason nobody has made a total conversion is because there are a number of things hard coded that would make it rather difficult, and the morrowind world is fucking huge.
Even the Warcraft 3 map maker was considered WAY better than the starcraft map editor, because even though they were more or less running on the same sort of engine (well, with significant changes, but the basic operating idea is the same) the Warcraft editor had WAY more things you could do with it. Way more in the way of terrain editing, customization, and control over all aspects of the level. And, it's presented in a way that is easy to learn. Just look at how many styles of map were floating around when it came out (until everyone started making clones of the same 3 or 4 maps over and over...)
My main point is that just because you give something advanced features and give it the ability to edit nearly everything in a mp or game doesn't mean that it is automaticlly hard to us. It depends on the interface you are given to use, and if nintendo were to do it right, they could make a creation program capable of both throwing together quick levels in no time for custom battles as well as creating monstrous creations of art with are completely custom and scripted.
-
Wall of text.
Yeah, but you rarely ever see a map maker like that on console. It would be cool if you could port something from PC to you're wii but smash maps them selfs are pretty simple. I don't think it would be as popular as wroldcrafts or counter strikes.
-
See, you pointed out the exact problem, we don't see enough editors like that on consoles. They certainly have the computer power, and space now though, so why shouldn't they include editors? Oh, and not complicated? http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/stages/stage09.html That's not exactly a simple map. Incidental fireballs up top, a breakable floor, smashable statues, and another breakable floor. Using stuff like that we could make some pretty awesome levels.
-
Well, of the disks simply installed the game onto the console, people could do all kinds of stuff to it simply because it's not read-only anymore.
-
But that's hacking. I'm talking about the developers deciding to release a powerful creation tool, as opposed to forcing the hardcore players to find ways to hack the game.
-
They'd have no reason to make a new game then. That's dumb.
-
Except of course, new characters.. Oh, but they COULD make money by releasing packages of maps that they made using the wii download service too.
-
Massive bump for greatest character in the game.

So, according to Wikipedia, the release date in North America is February 10. Which means I probably won't be able to get a copy until March.

GAY.
The release date was pushed back another month.
GAAAAAAAY.

Yup, now it's March 9th. I'm somewhat glad, since now No More Heros won't go completely under the radar due to smash. Also SAAAAAAAAKUUURAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIII.

No one likes faaalcon paunches.

Capitan Falcon actually has some pretty good moves. I like playing him every now and again, the only thing I need to get used to is how fast he runs.
-
Yeah. I just like hating on him because he's so flamboyantly gay. :D
-
That's just his manly appeal slowly turning you gay. Also he is pretty damn good, I just always liked Ganon better, and it's so damn rewarding having him scream FAAALCON PAAUNCH then kill an enemy.

I hate ganon, he's like Capitan Falcon with all the parts that make him good turned into shit. I mean, he's extremely slow, and falls like a rock, it's nearly impossible to actually hit someone with his huge punch... (well, that, and I suck with heavy characters.)
-
I never used his punch, but his kick, his B forward and all of his A attacks easily make up for his lack of speed. His A jab is just as fast as Capt. falcons but does about 20 damage and doesn't go into a faster attack, so you can pull off one or two then hit them with one of his bigger moves. Plus his elbow is gawd like.
-
I just find that most of his moves are way too slow for me. I can't use slow characters at all. I need guys like Samus, Marth/Roy, Ness, Cptn. Falcon, Fox (he falls too fast :<), and Sheik (Zelda is hard to use well :/). I kick MAJOR ass with Sheik and Marth.
-
I kick untold amounts of ass with Falco. I hope he's still in SSBB (guess I'll find out in 4-5 days, huh) :(
-
I'm not that good with him, but I'm better with him than most of the big slow guys, lol.
-
I kick untold amounts of ass with Falco. I hope he's still in SSBB (guess I'll find out in 4-5 days, huh) :(
I doubt it. They want to take out all clones, so Falco is probably out, as is Roy and Marth (look at Ikes moves, his B down is a counter and his B up is similar to Roy/Marths).
-
I think it's pretty unlikely that Marth has been removed. He's practically the figurehead of the entire Fire Emblem franchise. Plus, I've heard that Ike isn't too similar to SSBM Marth.
-
He has a similar move set, but he's slow. So they could still get away with having Marth in. I would be all :3 if they did.

http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/21/nintendo-accidentally-confirms-lucario-ness-jigglypuff-for-bra/
Thought I should post that here.
-
Yeah. Lucario, Ness, and Jigglypuff all have bras now WHAT
-
Man, I've been reading all the other articles on brawl, and jesus fuck. That game is well worth the money (NOT something I say often any more, considering I pirate about 95% of games I play now.)
-
Tonight's update on the dojo is pretty cool. There is so much stuff in this game it's incredible. With being able to save replays, created stages, snapshots, and whatever else they may come up with, nintendo is going to have to put out some kind of storage device sooner or later.
-
ie: SD Cards?
I suppose support for a USB hard drive wouldn't be hard to add into the Wii.
-
Well storage has been a big problem ever since people began running out of room because of virtual console games (I guess that's a lot of people). And you can't boot them off of an SD card. If more games start to put out content like super smash brothers, or if game developers want to make use of downloadable content for their games like for guitar hero, they're going to need to put out a small hard drive at the evry least. There's also the new WiiWare service coming out. Those games wil be bigger than VC games.

Haha, yeah, that is an odd image. Also, i just don't get the appeal of images like that. Usually, I can understand the appeal of something, even if I don't like it, but man, most furry images just don't make sense to me.
-
well it makes more sense than a lot of things i find on 4chan(HAAAAAMSSSS anyone?). also, the mild rage i got was disappointing, i was expecting RAGE!11.1..1/1111rhb82r2r202r2 not "meh, im sort of raging"

Anyway, I wish I had a wii. :/

Apparently C. Falcon, WW Link, Marth, Ness, (haven't seen screen shots, but apparently they're in) Ganon, Falco, Wolf, Game and watch, and R.O.B are CONFIRMED FOR BRAWL.
Edit, meh, I guess this confirms everything. Also I hope my pre order from before te first delay is still in effect.

I guess we'll find out Thursday.

I AM A BETTER SOURCE OF NEWS THEN JOYSTIQ.
http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/29/super-spoiler-bros-brawl-major-leaked-roster-update-videos-a/
-
Haha, ROB, that's not one I would have guessed. :D
-
So it looks like they got rid of Dr. Mario, Young Link, Roy, Mewtwo, and Pichu.
-
So it looks like they got rid of ... Mewtwo
D:
-
So it looks like they got rid of Dr. Mario, Young Link, Roy, Mewtwo, and Pichu.
I"m assuming "toon Link" would be replacing young Link and Lucario would be replacing Mewtwo.
-
Sure, but they're obviously not going to fight the same.
They'd better not make Lucario slow.
-
Well Falco and Wolf seem to not be so clone like. Falco throws his reflector and has a beak attack along with some quick multi hit punch thing, and his laser seems different. Also his kicks got nerfed. Wolfs only similarity is his B and over, everything else seems different to some extent. As for Lucario, he looks slow and floaty like mewtwo, and has the same charge attack, but everything else seems different. Also his FS is in this.
-
Pisses me off. They found a glitch for Toon Link already.
-
http://hk.youtube.com/watch?v=p1wx0bz_6FQ
Wow Brawl really seems full of glitches. other then this I've seen 3 infinite combo glitches used, which makes me wonder what they were doing while developing this game.
-
pre-ordered today at blockbuster
sweet jesus so close
-
pre-ordered today at blockbuster
sweet jesus so close
I'm going to shit a house of bricks if my pre-order from before the original delay is gone.
-
lol how much did you put down?
-
5 dollars, also they asked me if I wanted to pre order UR MR GAY when SSBB got delayed the first time I said no and they told me my SSB pre-order was still good. They shouldn't run out of the game too soon anyways.
-
So I has brawl, and Sonic or snake aren't unlocked from the begging, but Olimar and Ike are. Also the game is a ton slower, but I like it. It feels much more balanced and you're going to need more thought instead of just blindly lashing out at an enemy. Also Ike is hot awesome.
-
The game is slower what? If anything, it feels a gajillion times faster to me. More stuff going on at all times. Yeah yeah Falcon doesn't run as fast but whatever. It's crazy.
I'm really paranoid as my own copy arrives tomorrow but apparently a small amount of Wiis have a problem reading the disc and have to be sent in to Nintendo. I already had to send in my 360. If I have to send in the Wii too, I will flip out. I swear to god.
Also, you can't copy your save from Wii to an SD card. So basically, the 11 hours I spent playing with a friend to unlock stuff is now worthless to me so I have to do the whole thing over again.
-
It felt slower to me playing as Ike, but when I play meta knight it feels just as fast if not faster. It also feels A LOT more balanced out. So shall we finally trade up sum friend codes for the online? Also from waht I've played, it seems pretty lag free.
-
uhh i was at a friends house because i had nothing better to do...and they had brawl there, so with a GAMECUBE controller mind you i played 10 or so 4 player ffa games.
snake, carlos mencia, and game and watch are my favorites from playing. snake just plays awesome, carlos mencia can fuck anything with that hammer, and game and watch is a rape machine.
it falls under the "you know, i enjoyed it, but FUCK THE HYPE I HATE THE GAME BECAUSE OF THE HYPE FUCK THE FANBOYS IT ISNT THE BEST FUCKING GAME SINCE SLICED BREAD SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT IT PLEASE"
*edit* and i almost guarantee i am the only s.net member that won't call this game amazing. its a good slightly better looking version of melee, i give it that.
-
carlos mencia is that some amazing wordfilter i don't know about or something? rofl
yeah. got it at midnight. amazing game. I've been maining marth and pit so far, but i mix it up most of the time. olimar is a blast to play.
-
I got mine this morning at the mall's GameStop. It's amazing. Meta Knight is awesome.
-
carlos mencia is that some amazing wordfilter i don't know about or something? rofl
its no word filter. its just i hate carlos mencia because the entirety of his act is either
a- mexican jokes
b- DEDEDE (retard jokes)
and whoever doesn't know the character i am referring too, you need to take some smart pills.
-
I'm not so hyped up about this either, Vlad. It's cool and all, but I never was a huge smash fan, I'd rather play Soul Calibur or something. However, I will admit that it still is pretty damn awesome.
-
its no word filter. its just i hate carlos mencia because the entirety of his act is either
I wish I saved that picture of king Dedede's body shooped with Mencias head. Also I can't get a decent hold of Olimar, he seems like an awesome charecter in 1 on 1, but other then that he gets pushed around easily.
-
I'm not so hyped up about this either, Vlad. It's cool and all, but I never was a huge smash fan, I'd rather play Soul Calibur or something. However, I will admit that it still is pretty damn awesome.
Ugh, I find the Soul Calibur games to be way too unbalanced.
It felt slower to me playing as Ike, but when I play meta knight it feels just as fast if not faster. It also feels A LOT more balanced out. So shall we finally trade up sum friend codes for the online? Also from waht I've played, it seems pretty lag free.
That's awesome. I kinda like the idea of it being a bit slower, and more involved. I can't stand when I pwn everyone without trying because they don't seem to grasp the concept of actually playing, instead of mashing buttons like mad.
I'm a big smash fan, but I'm kinda annoyed with the huge hype. I hate when games get over-hyped (halo series anyone?) Sure, they're good games, great games, and will probably be fun a long time after the rest of the games for the system are lame, and not fun, but that doesn't mean that we need fanboys saying it's going to be the greatest game on earth ever.
-
Ugh, I find the Soul Calibur games to be way too unbalanced.
so you like the smash series, but don't like soul calibur because it's unbalanced?
in case you haven't known, the smash series isn't exactly balanced either.
*edited to have a lesser chance of shitstorm*
-
Actually, Brawl's pretty much perfectly balanced at this point. I can't see a single character totally dominating tournaments like Fox used to. SC3 was completely broken in 1000 different places.
Brawl is basically the most content-packed, over-the-top, most balanced, most fun fighting/party game ever. It doesn't matter what hype it's gotten, it's the truth.
-
Captain Falcon will kill you all.
Don't come close to his falcon punch bitches. God knows what will happen.
-
in case you haven't known, the smash series isn't exactly balanced either.
I'll admit that it's not balanced either, but you have to be a really good player to take advantage of some of the unbalanced aspects of Smash. Even if someone chose the best character to use against me in a given situation, they need to be pretty much as good as I am to have much of a chance of winning. Not so in Soul Calibur.
-
so you like the smash series, but don't like soul calibur because it's unbalanced?
in case you haven't known, the smash series isn't exactly balanced either.
Melee was meh, 64 was basically broken, and brawl does a decent job with it. You really need to work hard with a fast charecter now, and slower characters are actually given enough strength to compensate for their lack of speed.
-
by soul calibur, i hope you mean soul calibur 3. sc3 wasn't ballanced for the console version(FUCK YOU SETSUKA), but sc2(xbox) felt just fine.
anyway, this isn't an "ZOMG SMASH BURS IS MRR BLANCD THAN KALEBUR" thread. and while i don't exactly agree on brawl being ballanced, its still entertaining. (this is my cue to quit talking about the subject, we have enough offtopic threads as is.)
managed to play the subspace thing up to around 30something percent, wasn't TOO bad, but since i haven't got to snake yet, there wasn't much too exciting in it.
-
How can you not agree on Brawl being balanced? Put some points forward. What was broken to you? Honestly, I think it's obvious that it's MUCH more balanced simply by example. The Japanese can't even decide on tiers for any of the characters because there's no real clear-cut character who's better or worse now.
How was 64 broken anyway? I really just played with a few friends so I never saw any of the tournament scene for it but from what I remember playing, I can't remember dominating with anyone overall (aside from Ness but I most definitely used him more than anyone else).
-
why even say anything? it's not going to change your point of view anyway, and im not getting into a silly argument about this game.
-
Snake is fucking awesome. I didn't think I would like him at first but he seems like he could kick ass in 1v1 or free for all. Also it is TIEM TO EXCHANGE OUR FRIEND CODES .
-
ps melee IMO is pretty much as good as Brawl
it's just the final smashes make it that much better.
the only useful new character is probably meta knight.
and samus got so useless.
-
lol wut? I was just going to say meta knight needs to be beefed up, his attacks are fast but they have 0 knock back. Also my friend code is 0903 2398 1187.
-
the fast attacks make up for the fail knockback.
this is why i like him and captain falcon.
but captain falcon is like the greatest character. ever. EVER.
-
id think i would play snake, because i am gay for him, but i keep playing carlos mencia.
that hammer is 2000lbs of rape.
(70% on subspace whatever area, pretty tedious now, but co-op is co-op, so im not complaining)
also, poll needs to be modified for brawl related stuff so i can vote both mencia and game and watch.
-
and samus got so useless.
:/ So they nerfed Samus? That blows. Samus was one of my favourite characters.
-
ps melee IMO is pretty much as good as Brawl

Wow do you just suck with every other character because seriously.
Samus did get weaker but you can also switch to Zero Suit Samus whenever by the taunt switch and ZSS is insanely good.
Dedede is a beast, Olimar can destroy in 1v1, Pit's an excellent all-arounder, Pokemon Trainer has Squirtle, who is awesome. God they're all fantastic.
-
So me and some friends finished unlocking all of the characters and stages last night. Pictochat is still my favorite stage, though. I've mostly been using Meta Knight, but I like Lucario and R.O.B., too.
Also, friend code: 0344-9025-9288
-
I can't buy this game until Friday. There shall be smashing.
-

SHUT THE FUCK UP BITCH NOBODY UNDERSTANDS MY AWESOMENESS IT'S MY OPINION I DIDNT ASK YOU
PS I wasn't entirely serious. I just severely dislike the fact that you require a final smash thing to turn back into Varia.
ps rofl @ robot
nobody likes him. i think he's pretty cool. but i'm not saying he's useful.
-
Samus did get weaker but you can also switch to Zero Suit Samus whenever by the taunt switch and ZSS is insanely good.

Wat, Samus can change with her taunt? I never knew this. Also I just barely lost against an awesome link player with Samus, she just a bit slow and I think stronger then she originally was. Also I like Dedede, Kirby (not new, but improved so god damned much), Olimar, Snake (depends, he's hard to play) and sonic is fun as hell to play. Also couldn't agree more on the Olimar destroying on 1v1. Also also Meta knight is a useless charecter, I thought I could like him but fuck it. Also also also I'm addicted to this game.
-
I always liked Samus because she was a mix. She was relatively quick, jumped pretty high, and fell nice and slow. Her attacks were pretty quick, with the exception of the missiles and the charge shot (which is fast when you release it, at least). She didn't have too much in the way of range aside from her specials, but her physical attacks kicked serious ass.
-
R.O.B. is really fun to use. He's not fast, but he is pretty heavy, and he's good at recovering because of the way his Up-B works.
Also, I'm starting to use Toon Link in place of Meta Knight because nearly all of Meta Knight's moves are weak but fast, making it easy to rack up damage but hard to K.O. The only moves I can K.O. with at sub-180% are his side and down smash attacks, both of which have a long enough delay to strafe out of. He also has no ranged attacks.
Toon Link has arrows, bombs, the boomerang, and powerful smashes. I'm using him instead of Link because he's more agile.
-
where did robot come from btw
also toon link is gewd
-
beat subspace whatever with a friend, started getting annoying around half way through, glad i don't have to play it anymore.
beat all of the "missions" on easy to get them done
played some online random matches, figures people only play marth, marth 2, link, and meta knight(all faggy characters save for meta knight), and im sitting here kicking there asses with game and watch, won the first game, then proceeded to get second place in the other games.
uhh all characters unlocked.
seems i kick more ass with game and watch than carlos mencia, so i guess ill use game and watch, as he is damn cool.
i guess thats about it, having a little fun with the game before it gets boring. most likley won't get it when i get a wii (that day is when the next animal crossing comes out) but i can still have a little fun beatan dudes with g&w's firey stick!
-
Lol, most people can't KO me sub-180% anyway. I seem to be lucky/good at recovering with marth to the point where you need more than 180% to hit me far enough to kill me :/
-
i guess thats about it, having a little fun with the game before it gets boring
Impossible.
R.O.B. is an old NES toy that had two games. Neither was very good. However, ROB did manage to get people to buy the NES so I suppose you can thank him for allowing Nintendo to do well.
I am absolutely amazed by the amount of hate the game gets. It's like, anti-fanboyism at its worst. I swear to god if I hear one more comment on random sites about how blah blah blah the game is unbalanced blah blah blah not innovative blah blah same old same old I will flip out. There are so many non-points with people just stating "game sucks or blah is repetitive" (all games are repetitive at their base. If you fixate on that, yeah, anything will feel that way retards) or "isn't that great," and then, if you try to actually ask them nicely to explain, you get nothing. They get all offended that you dare ask them for their opinion, which doesn't actually exist because none of them actually even own the game.
Ugh. Seriously, we never had this problem before the X-box generation. Pisses me the hell off.
-
I think it's because everyone's expectations have been made so high that nothing really manages to reach them. There's so much hype that some people hate on things because of the hype, or expect so much more, because of the hype.
-
...or it's just that people are so set in their ways that any change causes them to flip out.
-
...or it's just that people are so set in their ways that any change causes them to flip out.
Yup, like the whole tripping thing. People have been freaking out and saying "NOT WORTHY OF TOURNAMENT PLAY, THIS RUINS EVERYTHING" when it really does little. Plus recovering from a trip isn't hard to do, just one more thing to watch out for in a game that's mostly chaos.
-
Tripping isn't even totally random. It usually only happens when you try to change directions really quickly, which makes sense. That's something that SHOULD happen. Hell, stumbling would be an interesting addition to a LOT of fighting games as it would force you to think about inertia and the weight of who you're using.
-
So uh, Metaknight's B up blows.
Just saying.
-
uhh, eggman. if you think anything i have said towards the game counts as "hate" you ARE a nintendo fanboy. i clearly stated i like the game, why else would i fucking play it?
yes, i see you like the game like i enjoy mass effect, but i didn't flip out when you called the story
I loved the game at first but a lot of the design flaws stick out at me now and I thought the story was lame.
size 1'd incase i misunderstood the post i was reading
and the game gets a lot of hate because people are fucking sick of hearing "ZOMG DID YOU PLAY BRAWL, ITS THE BEST GAME EVER MADE, ILL SLIT YOUR THROAT IF YOU DON'T SHARE MY OPINION" its the same with every game with that much hype. if you are a /v/irgin, and you aren't hyped/werent hyped for the game, you kind of get sick of seeing most of every thread on /v/ being brawl threads, and the threads that aren't brawl, comprised of tf2.
anyway
RAAAAAGE and game and watch
-
Wasn't really talking about you with that. Go read through comments on kotaku for some ridiculousness.
Why does hype do anything to you? Who cares if people talk about it? I don't see how that has any bearing whatsoever on game enjoyment. People made/make Portal jokes CONSTANTLY but you still see people going OMGOMGOMG PORTAL GREATEST GAME OF LAST YEAR. Do I really care? No.
The whole gaming community in general focuses way too much on marketing, whether they hate the amount or only pay attention to games that receive copious amounts.
-
Someone described Brawl as a "party game with fighting game aesthetics." As if that's not what the entire series was. That's why it's fun. I'm not a huge fan of the fighting game genre, but I love the gameplay in SSB.
-
So uh, Metaknight blows.
Just saying.
Fix'd.
if you are a /v/irgin, and you aren't hyped/werent hyped for the game, you kind of get sick of seeing most of every thread on /v/ being brawl threads, and the threads that aren't brawl, comprised of tf2.
It's either a brawl thread, a TF2/gay thread, or a pokemon/girl thread. I still really need to buy TF2.
Someone described Brawl as a "party game with fighting game aesthetics." As if that's not what the entire series was. That's why it's fun. I'm not a huge fan of the fighting game genre, but I love the gameplay in SSB.
This is because of that whole "lol no complex buttan combos shitsux" when really it's all about timing, and you still have to know all of your characters moves in order to be effective at all. Plus I really doubt their's another fighting game that's as hectic as brawl. Also add me, I added you :3.
I.
can't.
stop.
playing.
AHAHGUAHGUHAUUGHHH. O__O
Anyone up for some versus? =x
<33333333333 Toon Link. Forever.
Poast your friend code faget.

Finally. Most people expect to be able to button mash in the Smash Bros games and do well, but coming from experience playing fairly seriously, that is definitely not the case. I suck ASS with slow characters, because I can't time their moves right. I know their move sets, but I just can't time anything right because I'm too used to quick characters.

Also, Snake is the worst character ever :(
oh yeah i have all of the stages and characters and shit, now i'm just trying to break all of the windows. Working on Target Tests at the moment... then it's on to Events which are cool (except for the like five shitty assed ones so far I had to complete in Normal difficulty), then I'll probably finish all of the things I missed in SSE, and then it's Classic, All-Star, Boss Battle, and Multi-Man Brawl, none of which I'm looking forward to that much.

Olimar is badass guys

I'm going for the soundtrack now, then the trophies.

Why the fuck are more then half of my friends in "Waiting to be registered"? Shit is annoying, does it mean I gave them the wrong number or something? Also Adding Kuro and shoop soon.

The very first time I saw Samus do her special I almost shit bricks.
EDIT: I cant seem to add any of you guys. I need a wii code or some shit
-
Well disregard everything I said about meta knight, I'm starting to like him now. Also I came bricks when I saw Luigi's special, ZA WARDUO.
-
I'll add Shoop next time I boot my system... also, the shoop woop samus picture there is pretty accurate to my opinion of that attack :D
pfft everybody knows it's just the hyper beam in disguise
-
Finally got to play yesterday. I sucked because It's the first time I've played on a Wii, so the controlls were awkward as fuck for me, but I did OK with Metaknight. I absolutely love using him.
-
I didn't think of it at the time, plus, I dunno where his GC is, it might be packed up or something, since he's in college and was home for a day or 2 (He does that a lot).
But man, MetaKnight kicks some serious ass. He's got to be one of the coolest characters.
-
Protip: Use a GameCube Controller
Also, 4854 6101 2459.
Let me know who has added me. =o
I'mma adden you, along with everyone else in this thread.

IM me if it keeps happening, the majority of the people on my friends list are waiting for approval, which makes me think something is wrong with my code or something.

You both have to sign on at the same time once to show up to each other. Or something like that.

Seriously? Well what the fuck?

So in order to unlock songs in Brawl, I set up an elaborate system.
First, I made a small stage where everything ended up against a wall because of how I set up conveyor belts. Next, I turned all items off except for sandbag and set items to High, so all that would appear out of sandbag would be stickers and CD's. Next, I started a stock match with 0.5 damage ratio against Ganondorf and Toon Link, although any heavy character and any character without a rapid A attack will work. Next, I built a Lego robot to tap the A button for me.
So far I've unlocked 17 songs like this.
-
Holy crap, nice.
Vids plz?
-
No working camera, sorry. I might be able to get one of my friends to vid it.
-
Ah well. No trouble.
That's a pretty awesome setup, though.
How long does it take to unlock songs legitimately (I doesn't has SSB:B yet :<)?
-
I made a custom stage that let me get hueg combos easy. It kind of looks like
B
[ ][V][ ] [ ] == Normal Block
[ ] A [ ] [V] == Drop Block
[ ][ ][ ] Note: you may have to add more [ ] around the stage, for the stagebuilder to approve.
So you take control of the cpu with another controller, drop it and yourself into that hole, wait for the [V] to regenerate, and pound the fucking shit out of the cpu at location A by pounding the A button :D
For extra lols drop a super spicy curry while facing right at location B and then drop in right before the [V] starts to regenerate, and then use that for hueger combos
You may have to add another block to the left of that square structure, though; they made item dropping in training mode really weird.
You == Pikachu/Kirby and CPU == Bowser, DK, or Mencia works the best.
-
Lawl, my friend has a couple awesome levels. One of which is made of drop blacks, with a couple floating springs to get from level to level, and the other is made entirely out of springs, forcing you to fight areal battles.
-
Ah well. No trouble.

Some of the songs are unlocked by completing events or other challenges, but a lot of them are unlocked when you pick up a gold CD during a fight in any mode. The CD's disappear fast, though, and they don't appear a lot, so it takes a while without a conveyor-belt-sandbag-setup.
Also, I made a couple of stages just for Special Brawl. One of them is springs and is used for a light brawl. Another is a fairly simple level with ladders and one-way platforms, as well as a spike pit in the middle. I set the background music to Gourmet Race and use that level for a heavy metal brawl (It's actually called metal heavy brawl in the game, but I reverse it for obvious reasons). Another is an icy level used for fast brawl.
-
Well, most of my friend's levels are designed for people who are fairly good at the game. He's got a level where there's a small platform of ice with spikes to either side. One where there are a whole ton of spikes right under where you spawn, and you have to fight on these 2 little platforms underneath it.
Sorta shaped like this:
____
|_ _|
I think there was something underneath that.
-
Maybe I'll take pictures of my levels some time. I have some really weird shit in my levels. In fact, why doesn't somebody connect to the Nintendo Wi-Fi and I can show them some right now.
EDIT: Bobbias, do you have a Friend Code? I looked back through the thread but I can't seem to find one. We should make an organized thread for them, instead of randomly posting them around here :D
-
I don't, because I don't own a wii. My friend does, so that's where I've gotten to play.
-
Oh. Well, if anybody else wants to fight me, my friend code is 1246-8401-9912. PM me if you're around and can battle; Gtalk will notify me of a PM and I'll reply as soon as possible. I have MordifiedocAlot, Aldrasio, Shoop Woop, and Dear Cactus pending in my friends list, so if you aren't one of those people, I need your friend code :>
spectere i demand that you get this game and post your friend code >:|
-
I finally got around to adding you guys. Now I just need people to log in.
spectere i demand that you get this game and post your friend code >:|
Seconded.
-
Well I demand he buy me a wii and this game so I can post my friend code :/
-
I finally got around to adding you guys. Now I just need people to log in.
Same here, of course 90% of my list is like this and it pisses me off. Also about the CD maps
A nice video of it. Do you have to be in medium sized maps to get the scrolling floor because I couldn't find them on small.
-
They're in a parts set you get after building 5 stages. Stage size is irrelevant as far as parts go.
Also, that guy's stage is unnecessarily complicated. Here's mine:
Conveyor belt: >
Normal block: O
>>> <<<
O O
O>>>>O
I use medium-sized belts on top instead of small ones because if a sticker falls on a small one, it won't fall off the edge unless pushed. I also use a large belt on the bottom because it moves twice as fast as the small ones. The way the belts are arranged, everything ends up at the right wall in a few seconds and whenever I hit something, it has plenty of room to bounce around. I use Ganondorf as the second character and set the damage ratio to 0.5, so he can withstand on average 850% before finally flying off the stage (Highest I saw was 969%, lowest was 743%). I don't need to do anything with the 2nd controller because he really doesn't get in the way.

Okay, I'll probably idle in a game room in smash on weeknights/late during weekdays. Either this or try me on AIM and I'll get on, considering I'm dying for a 1 v 1. Also Kuro and Aldrasio confirmed for brawl.

Niggers you giez er never on AIM.

Masahiro Sakurai's cat confirmed for brawl.

whaaaaaaaaaat

whaaaaaaaaaat
It's not even a shoop either, I've checked in my game.
Also FUCK ANYONE WHO PLAYS AS GAME AND WATCH OR SONIC. Both of their final smashes are so powerful it's game braking. I was fighting this guy who was G&W and 90% of his kills were with his final smash, it's ridiculous. Both their smashes in a 1v1 situation are basically a GUARANTEED kill plus about 20 to 50 damage on their next stock, while everyone else's will either do SOME damage and if already damaged to an extent will kill. Also sonic and G&W both have great air controls and attacks, so if your a slow charecter and you're playing against one of them and items are on, you might as well quit. So FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK.
-
So I made a stage in Brawl that looked like a giant penis, and when I saved it, I found out it was stage #34.

So I made a stage in Brawl that looked like a giant penis, and when I saved it, I found out it was stage #34.
was that intentional
either way gj :)
-
It wasn't intentional. I laughed for a long time when I saw it.
-
I'm going back through the Subspace Emissary trying to get 100%. Right now I'm at 92%. I got Toon Link, Wolf, and Jigglypuff. Now the only characters I need to get are Pikachu, Trainer, and G&W, all of which require me to go back through subspace.I'm just glad I have Toon Link now, because his bombs, boomerang, bow, and down-A attacks are all extremely useful.
Also, I tried out the stage builder again, and actually made a two good stages. The .bin files are rared in these images:

It annoys me how you have to make like 30 something stages to unlock the next stage items pack. Also I've made a few fun multi level stages, I'm just pissed I can't use them in friended online matches.
-
I stopped playing online for one reason: LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAG.
Also, you only need to make a total of 15 stages to unlock all the building items, and that includes copies. And I really wish they;d used the sensor bar to make the Wii remotes useful in stage building. The editor is just not good as is, and it's disappointing to know that they're most likely not going to make another SSB sequel until Nintendo makes their next platform, which won't happen for another 6 years at least.
-
I stopped playing online for one reason: LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAG.
It's gotten A LOT better then how it used to be, plus when you get a good FFA/ team battle going it will usually last for a while. Also almost every 1 on 1 battle I have ends out fine.
-
I'm sure the framerate is better, but I'm sure the controls are still less responsive, which is what I was talking about.
-
Yeah, that would turn me off of online play REALLY quickly. I absolutely cannot stand lag at all. Partly because of my sensitivity to it. After playing Stepmania for as long as I have, I've come to be able to tell VERY small amounts of input lag.
Plus, if you're playing fairly competitively, or at a fairly high skill level, even small amounts of lag can be the difference between dieing and surviving.
-
I'm sure the framerate is better, but I'm sure the controls are still less responsive, which is what I was talking about.
Input response is much better then what it used to be. I remember playing a 1 on 1 with a friend and having a literal half second, now when I have a 4 person free for all their's hardly ANY input lag.
-
So I was making a Gummi ship in KH2 today when I realized that the Gummi editor in KH2 is easier to use than the SSBB stage editor despite having about 10 times as many parts and another dimension. What.
I mean, in Nintendo's defense, the PS2 controller has 5 more buttons than the Gamecube controller and they had to make the editor usable with the nunchuckless Wii remote, but that doesn't mean that the Gamecube controller should be just as useless as the Wii remote when it comes to making stages.
-
Oh yeah, this thread.
I played SSBB for the first time a few weeks ago. I must say I was a little let down. I used the gamecube controller so it was at least familiar (I've only played on a Wii once before) but otherwise, there was nothing that stood out as a kickass new addition to me. I even played on a 53" flatscreen with a few good friends, too :|
I'll have to give it another shot to come to a better conclusion, though.
-
How so? It still feels much better then melee.
-
I'm not sure. I think I was just expecting a lot more. Obviously I didn't get the full experience since I only played multiplayer. I'm not saying it's not better than Melee, but it didn't live up to my expectations.
-
Single player isn't much. SSE is pretty fun, but I'd rather fight CPUs than play SSE. At least it's a quick way to unlock all the characters if you skip the cutscenes. The events now have 3 difficulties. The home-run contest has a glass wall that shatters if it gets hit too much, making it easier to stack damage. Multi-Man
Melee Brawl, Classic, and All Star modes are pretty much the same except with smarter CPUs. There are only 5 target test stages, 4 of which have to be unlocked by playing through Classic on higher difficulties, though cunt-in-yous don't matter. There's a Boss Battle mode that gets unlocked after beating SSE in which you fight all of the SSE bosses and both hands All-star style (damage retains between battles but there are 3 chances to restore it), which is all right, I guess.
I'll occasionally play though All-Star mode, but other than that, I fight random Level-9s on random stages if I play alone.
-
i have SSB (N64) on the way from ebay. I was watching the auction, "F5 F5 F5 F5 F5"ing to watch it go to close. THEN
IN THE LAST
2 SECONDS
SOME ASSHOLE BID 8 MORE DOLLARS.
But I won anyway so yeah. Also, if I didnt buy the fucknig game I would have had money for food to eat. Ugh. Responsibility sucks.
-
I'll occasionally play though All-Star mode, but other than that, I fight random Level-9s on random stages if I play alone.
Same, but playing another human is still the most fun, that's why I'm glad it has online, even if it's gimped to all hell.

Funny SSB video:

Somewhat related:
I'm getting an oral surgery tomorrow, and some teeth deep in my gums will be taken out. I had a meeting with the doctor a while back, and for a week or two after the surgery, and he broke it down like this:
No Solids
No Straws
Milkshakes Only
FINAL DESTINATION!!!!!!!!!!
Well, not really, but that would have been cool :o
-
That video was pretty good up until the person said "wtf," which ruined the whole thing for me.
Sorry but I've been around too many people who've adopted internet acronyms into their vocabulary to find it funny anymore :|
-
duh ble yoo tee eff = 5 syllables.
what the fuck = 3 syllables.
And yeah, it was otherwise really good except for that little bit. Rofl chawklit reign.
-
I'm seriously disgusted at the amount of times FD gets picked on FFA game in SSBB. It's like there is a mass amount of shitty tourney players out there who thinks it's awesome to pick hat shitty stage over and over.
-
Yeah, FD is really, really boring to me. I like stages where there are a lot of places to jump around. Of course, I like using Toon Link and pelting people with bombs, arrows, my boomerang, and any items I pick up while staying out of their reach (a.k.a. running away while throwing stuff). In other words, I don't do well in FD, but I do fine in Battlefield.
-
Bah, I hate people who do that. My brother did that all the time when we played Melee. He was always young link and did that. Why is it always Toon/Young Link that does that? Is it because he's useless in 1 on 1 combat?
But I shouldn't complain too much, I use shield dodging, midair dodges, and marth's general aerial style to dodge people and do hit and run type tactics while fighting them. However, I don't do it in a cowardly way running away. Of course, that would account for me usually having 200+% damage before being killed (getting bet on while I'm beating on the enemy, as opposed to doing damage from a distance without being hurt.)
-
It's how he's played, he's a ranged fighter. That's why he has bombs, a boomerang, and arrows.
-
Of course, his physical attacks are also pretty good. Not quite as strong as some other characters, but I should remind you that he can easily hold his own against most characters (except maybe the powerhouses) in a straight up physical 1 on 1 battle. The only characters I've encountered that honestly require ranged damage are characters like Jigglypuff, that are so damned weak and light that they simply cannot do much in battle. I think Game and Watch and Jigglypuff and Pikachu (ot a much lesser extent) are about the only characters in Melee that honestly require someone to fight ranged.
Other than that, it's more or less based on the player's tendencies. In Melee, Marth is a pretty good all around fighter, but I always use him in a hit and rus fashion, constantly attacking my opponent and dodging and getting out of the way when they try to retaliate. I could fight them in a straight up physical blow for blow type scenario and I could likely give just about any character a run for their money, but I simply prefer my style of fighting.
When I play as link/any link version, I make extensive use of bombs (because they are a great way to set traps and piss people off and do good damage quickly), I don't use arrows, because they're fucking useless at close range, boomerangs are kinda useful, because they can interrupt someone who isn't watching you closely enough and give you a chance to attack them, but the rest of what I use is physical attacks. The link characters are useful when it comes to doing damage and knocking your opponent down, or away.
-
Is it because he's useless in 1 on 1 combat?
He's not useless in 1-on-1. In fact, he's better in 1-on-1 than against larger groups because he doesn't have melee attacks. His side-smash has a second hit that has assloads of kickback, so I basically rack up damage and move in for the kill. I've managed to beat all of the characters as level-9s pretty easily using Toon Link, including powerhouses like Ganondorf and Ike.
-
That was my whole point, if you read my next post. The link characters are actually very well suited for close quarters combat. Unless your character simply cannot dish out any decent damage, and is incredibly light, you're going to be able to use them as 1 on 1 fighters. There's no reason to use a Link character only for being a coward, it's just how you want to play him as.
Of course, when it comes down to 1 on 1, most people can't keep that whole "pelt people with bombs and arrows" crap going very well, or at least, when it comes down to 1v1 against me, since I've gotten pretty damned good at dodging crap like that (not so much in a large battle, because I'm more concerned about actually hitting the other people than dodging weak crap that someone playing a link is throwing at me).
-
uhhh, got SSB in the mail, didnt work with the n64 at first, turns out it did. also turns out the original owner was a ness fag, judging by the stats.
now its time for friends to come over for drunken SSB brawling.
-
Lmao dude, you can play a crazy rushdown with Jigglypuff if you know how.
Also: Main switched to Ike and G&W. I started sucking with Zelda for some reason.
-

Yup, I mostly used link for close quarters in melee. Also slight derailment, but I just played online with a few friended people, and it ended up with me and the room host being the only ones running around while these other 2 guys stayed at either side of the stage and spammed attacks, it mostly ended with me and said host dying first (playing for fun in a FFA, who would have guessed?) while the other 2 continued to camp the side so they couldn't be attacked from the back and spammed projectiles.
-
double post for AWESOME.
So I played a friend whom I haven't seen in a while, he mains lucario and I've never played a good Lucario before. So, we play 2 round, both no items FD and I play as Kirby, who I practically main. We had some close rounds, but he still beats me. So I figure I'd bust out king Dedede, and shortly after I won with 1 stock and about 50 damage. Next I go for snake (whom I haven't played as much, but like) and I end up winning again. Either Luc can kick ass against light weights, or I'm just not as good with kirby as I thought. Maybe I should stick with them heavies.
-
It's also how you play the character. Lights generally are a lot more maneuverable and can get in and out quickly for hit-and-run tactics. People who try to play shot for shit with a light generally get their ass kicked quickly unless they are damn good with the shield, dodging, and positioning themselves in places they can't be knocked off in.
-
I use Toon Link for hit-and-run a lot. I've gotten really good at aiming the boomerang. My friend that I usually play uses Link, Zelda, Ganondorf, Luigi, Meta Knight, Ness, or Samus. It's funny whenever he uses Ganondorf and we end up at New Pork because he keeps trying to chase me and fails to while I taunt him with my projectiles.
-
I actually tend to play heavily melee (well, heavily melee mixed in with areal hit and run) with weak characters. I've gotten half-decent at figuring out exactly when to shield-dodge away and stuff.
-
People who try to play shot for shit with a light generally get their ass kicked quickly unless they are damn good with the shield, dodging, and positioning themselves in places they can't be knocked off in.
No clue what shot for shit means, but I can't really play hit and run against Luc. Every time I give him the chance he charges his charge attack. So I have to constantly charge him, but I'm rather good at combos with kirby.
-
Shot for shot...
And if someone's charging, you drop down in front of them and use the shield-dodge to get behind them and smack them from behind...
Kirby is great for combos. But you really need to watch out for his up-a melee attack on ground, and his throws. His throws are absolutely deadly.
-
I don't like his up A smash, unless I'm doing my down throw, then I can usually get a few up As (usually just tilts, not full smashes) off without them being able to dodge it, at low damages at least. Also his throws aren't hard at all, they about all have bad knock back, but do decent damage.
Also Kirbys aerial A and up is awesome. I can kill most people at like 70% with about 2 hits (first one gets them near the top, secound one kills them without them thinking it would) and his down A while fast falling over the edge works great as a spike, it drags them off screen and basically leaves them with no chance of recovery.
-
I was referring to the non-smash up-a melee.
And it was the damage I meant with his throws. A couple up throws can do some very significant damage in a very short time, and for a generally weak light character, that's useful.
-
Speaking of "advanced" fighting.
Ice climbers chain grab video.
A how to about adult link, some of this stuff can carry over to other charecters as well.

Comboin' video with the same link player, that guy is a god damned beast.
&feature=related
Oh yeah, and people actually using the fludd.

I've gotten bored with fighting 1-on-1 with 9's, so I've started fighting teams. Right now, I can handle two 7's with about as much trouble as one 9 would give me.
-
Yeah, I did that, best I got was 2 lv 9's in melee. At best, I could take out 2 levels 9's in about 5 minutes.
-
I always sucked at fighting multiple enemies, even tho the A.I. in melee was brain dead.
-
I made a stage that's all falling blocks except for 2 horizontally moving platforms and 2 vertically moving ones. It's a mid-sized stage, and it's fun to play with items on because most if not all items cause blocks to fall. I named the stage LOL @ GANONDORF because any character that plays on it has to be fast. I want to see what the Landmaster does on that stage, as well as Jigglypuff's and G&W's final smashes.
-
Doesn't sound all that hectic. I made a stage with 2 fall threw platforms over a row of spikes, and over that are fall threw blocks with 2 vertical moving platforms on each side. It's really too bad the AI likes to stay on the spikes for some reason. Even if I'm standing next to them, they'd rather bounce off the spikes a few more times before coming near me.
-
They'd also rather fall of the stage when knocked off than land on spikes.
-
My friend made one that was pretty much all falling blocks except the couple ladders he stuck in there.
-
I've gotten bored with fighting 1-on-1 with 9's, so I've started fighting teams. Right now, I can handle two 7's with about as much trouble as one 9 would give me.
Now you've got me doing this. What rules do you use? Any item and any maps? Also the level 9 A.I. seems to get more aggressive/all around better the more I play them and win repetitively, or maybe it's just a mental thing. It goes from hardly trying to OH FUCK.
-
Team battle, 3 stock, all items on medium spawn, random stage with Final Destination 2, Flat Zone 2, and Mario Bros turned off but everything else turned on including custom stages. These battles have made me a lot more accurate with my arrows and bombs.
Also, I got an account at smashboards so I could upload my stages. http://smashboards.com/stagebrowser.php?u=122981
-
I'd watch out for that community, they have a reputation for being a little eccentric.
-
Oh, I don't doubt it. It's not like I'll be playing any of them. I'll mention that Final Destination sucks due to being REALLY FUCKING BORING a lot. Plus, if they call me a n00b, I have a few retorts ("I'd rather be a n00b than someone who treats this series as you do/someone who takes the game this seriously/an asshole").
EDIT: I told them Final Destination wasn't really neutral. I can't wait to see what happens.
-
EDIT: I told them Final Destination wasn't really neutral. I can't wait to see what happens.
In all honesty it isn't. Watch a spam happy Pit fight Ganon there. Also trolling games.
-
I know FD isn't neutral for a reason they actually seem to acknowledge: Character tier lists. If FD was neutral, there wouldn't be tier lists. The tier lists don't rank how absolutely good a character is, just how well they do on the "neutral five" with no items.
-
Tier lists are just composed by numbers of wins of specific charecters, not by speed, damage and weight.
