1) Renard kind of quietly announced it in his LJ: http://renard-v.livejournal.com/11982.html
2) He was the Canadian that pyroko, Jinxie, and I were visiting.
3) I'm writing steps for it. :)

I passed Ensyther's RISLIM challenge on an R23 ITG2 machine while I was in Canadia.  'tis fun.

Also, Mungyodance 3 is awesome so far. :D

So I take it you just block their RST sends?

Yep, you've got it.  I imagine that they can't legally do anything to interfere with anyone else's Internet access (i.e. sending RSTs to non-Comcast customers) so I don't see a whole lot else they can do to stop it that hasn't been tried before.

umm, audacity, a logitech mic, and my phone's speakerphone. XD

Heh, given the quality I figured you did a direct line in or something. :P  Well played.

If you decide to go with a PSP, make sure that it's version 3.50 or under -- versions above that haven't been exploited yet.  For some versions you'll also need a copy of Lumines (product code: ULUS-10002) and a specially prepared save file to allow you to run a downgrader.  After you get it down to FW 1.50 the sky's the limit.

If I remember I'll post some links with more information when I get home.

Hahaha, way to go, Arthur. :P

Out of sheer curiosity, what do you use to record your calls?

Yeah, they've been denying that they're doing it for a while. I donno what the truth actually is, but whatever. I haven't actually tried torrenting anything for a while.

I checked: the second you try to seed Comcast blasts their clients with RSTs and kills the incoming connections.  If I were at home I could show firewall logs but, alas, I'm in Ohio, with my old unhindered SBC DSL.

And yeah, Comcast has been openly denying that they interfere with BitTorrent traffic.  I'm not surprised that their tech support doesn't know about it.  I'd be a bit more troubled if there wasn't an easy way to get around it (with my current set of firewall rules in place I can freely seed).  Even so, they shouldn't be doing it.  There are plenty of legitimate uses for BitTorrent and all uncooperative ISPs do is cause Internet servers to have to work harder.

True, but it is just too much like the WoW feature in windows (Windows on Windows emulation). Windows on Windows blows hardcore.

WoW doesn't do any emulation whatsoever; it basically just translates Win16 calls into Win32 calls.

The only reason it "blows" is because the applications rely on VXDs or try to do too much with the system.  There is no way support can be given to applications like that in a secure manner, therefore they fail.  Most applications have no problems with that; only ones that try to do anything exotic do.

The Xbox 360 literally emulates a PC when it does its backwards compatibility function so, really, it's amazing it works as well as it does.  It's absolutely nothing like WoW.

Gaming / Re: Does anyone want HL2 and HL2: Episode 1?
« on: September 12, 2007, 08:11:12 PM »
I thought the orange box was only HL2 episode 2, portal and TF2. I would ask for episode one but I really want TF2 and I'll probably get the orange box. After all it's only 50 bucks.

Nah, that was what the Black Box was supposed to be.  The Orange Box includes HL2 and HL2:E1 as well.

Hi, I'm Kuroneko and I want ur gaems.

Alright, we have a winner. :)  Remind me when the game comes out next month if I don't contact you beforehand, m'kay?

As for your actual question, I think you only need a valid e-mail address.

I'll probably make this the "FREE HALF-LIFE 2" thread, given that Ulti is having the same dilemma.

Here's the deal.  I'm going to be buying the Orange Box since for some idiotic reason, TF2 and Portal don't come with HL2: Episode 2.  To make matters dumber, buying them separate costs more than the Orange Box itself.

Fortunately, Valve is at least kind enough to let you give away your spare copies of HL2 and HL2:E1 (rather than, you know, giving you a discount for supporting them by buying their games at launch...thank you oh so much, Valve).

So anyway, if anyone needs a copy of those, let me know.  I can gift the two of them separately (so if someone has HL2 and wants Episode 1, I can do that) so be specific as to what you want.  I only have one copy of each item so this is going to be a first come, first serve thing.  Too late, Kuroneko won. :>

I won't be able to do it right away.  I'll only have the extra copies to give away when the Orange Box comes out.  To receive the gift you must have a Steam account.  I will need the e-mail address that you signed up with in order to make the "transaction."  The Orange Box comes out on October 10, 2007, unless they push it back again.

THIS THREAD IS NOW ABOUT GIVING AWAY YOUR COPIES OF HL2/EP1 BY THE WAY.  Post if you want to get rid of your copies of the stuffage and I'll add you to the list.

They dropped the EE+GS in the European and other new PS3s just like they dropped the PSX components in the slim PS2s.  It's all software emulation now.  Also, let's not forget the TERRIBLE upscaling issues that the PS3 had with 480i games when it came out.

And I can't complain about the emulation in the X360 considering it actually renders everything in HD.  Games generally look nicer on the X360.  The reduced compatibility list is kind of a bummer, but when you consider that the architecture completely changed between the two systems (x86 -> PPC, nVidia -> ATI) it's a bit more understandable.

Yeah, except that SNES9x is pretty much the only choice for the PSP, so you just look like a jerk. ;)

I'll forgive you, though...this time.

I liked APT, I used yoper for a short time, and I believe APT was the package manager they used.

They seem to use a system called Smart, which, from what I can gather, is configured by default to work with both Debian packages (APT) and RPMs.  Not a bad compromise.

RPM was developed by Red Hat.  'nuff said.

APT is far superior as far as binary distribution, though I'll always be a ports/portage fanboy. :>

Sadly no, he said something about being able to use it like a computer (I would rather have a computer, but whatever) and that it's really powerful.

You can do that with a 360 as well.  I don't have any music on my 360 -- I just stream everything from my compy (or use a memory stick when I'm not at home, like now).

Well, all things considered both the PS2 and the PS3 have some monster processors in it. The PS2 has the first commercial 128 bit (yes, 128 bit) processor in it. And the PS3 has some monster power to it.

Sure, they have monster power, but it's going to take years for developers to be able to actually be able to harness all of its power, just like with the PS2.  Both systems use totally different design methodologies than traditional game consoles and computers, making porting difficult (which is why Xbox 360 ports tend to be choppy on the PS3).  And really, the only reason that the PS2 has (no, needs) a 128-bit processor is because the entire system is based on the concept of streaming very small amounts of data around quickly rather than caching data to a larger chunk of memory and having a monster bus to back it up.  A decent design for a game system but it's so radically different that doing multisystem development or porting anything to and from the PS2 wound up being an absolute nightmare.

Fortunately, at least the Cell is a standard processor and IBM is the one writing the documentation for it.  I heard that Sony's developer documentation for the PS2 sucked ass and as far as I can gather, developers had to work out for themselves how to really get anything out of the console.
